Afghanistan: America’s $4 Trillion Mistake

The nation of Afghanistan has fallen to the Taliban at a pace that has many western leaders scratching their heads in wonderment. A couple of weeks ago, the State Department was warning that Kabul could fall within 6 months. A few days later, the date was switched to 90 days. After it was revised to 72 hours, the downfall of Kabul only took 8 hours.

President Ashraf Ghani greeted a Taliban delegation at the presidential palace after signing an agreement to resign and transfer power to the Taliban. According to the Russian embassy, he then fled the country with four vehicles and a helicopter full of cash.

The Afghanistan military had a force of over 300,000, with an annual budget of $3-4 billion, equipped with Humvees, Mobile Strike Force Vehicles, helicopters, A-29 fighters, and advanced weapons. It crumbled to the Taliban’s lightly armed forces of 75,000 men.

As Afghan cities were falling like dominoes, the Pentagon was singing the praises of the Afghanistan military. “They have an air force, a capable air force,” something the Taliban does not have, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said. “They have modern equipment. They have the benefit of the training that we have provided for the last 20 years. It’s time now to use those advantages.”

The downfall of Afghanistan reminds me of when ISIS militants took control of the city of Mosul in June of 2014. It only required 300 fighters to capture a city of 2.5 million people. During their three-year reign, ISIS committed many atrocities. By the time the Iraqi military liberated Mosul, large areas of the city were completely destroyed.

In both cases, Islam is the cause of the defeat. When you have a demonically controlled people fight against another group of demonically controlled people, you will see the outcomes that often defy simple logic.

Islam doesn’t even work well in oil-rich nations. I recently watched the video that pointed how much the United Arab Emirates is a mess. The Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building, and it’s not linked up to a sewage system. Each morning, 30 tanker trucks line up to pump out tons of human waste. Hundreds of homes that were built on fake islands are all slowly sinking into the Persian Gulf.

The workers in UAE are mostly the equivalent of slave labor. The people with the money are rich because they get welfare from the government. So when the oil runs out, the whole system will collapse. The old joke about when the oil runs out, sand will be the only export is not even true. The sand in the Middle East is too dirty to be of any use.

I have a non-Muslim example of how demonic influence destroys a nation. The people of Haiti follow a version of Roman Catholicism that is infused with voodoo rituals and beliefs. Haiti was founded by a large portion of the population pledging their allegiance to Satan for independence from France. This pact with the devil is the only way I can explain why this nation is the poorest nation in the Western world.

The Biden administration has had to face criticism and anger over the scale of just how fast things have deteriorated. Many of the images coming out of Kabul look very familiar to the fall of Saigon. Biden made America look bad by our military leaving the country with its tail between its legs. Every President going back to President Bush deserves some blame for staying in this hell hole.

It was foolish for us to think we could bring stability, security, and ultimately, prosperity to the people of Afghanistan. We invaded the country because we thought it was the headquarters of the group that carried out the 9/11 attack. It turned out most of them came from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

We only lost about 2,500 soldiers in the war, but we have taken on huge financial burdens. We have thousands of people who received injuries that will lead to medical bills of $1 trillion over their lifetime. Since we spent an average of $100 billion per year on the Afghanistan war, that amounts to $2 trillion. If you add up the compounding interest on the debt for 20 years, our total bill for this Afghanistan folly will be around $4 trillion.

The Bible proves itself time and time again that scripture is the only way to understand world events. Secular planners thought they could turn Afghanistan into a productive democracy. I doubt they admit their error, but it’s clear to me that they were wrong.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).

“Only on evil”

Looking around today’s cultural/societal landscape, I searched my cerebral, biblical files of recollection for one brief reference that might best speak to where this generation stands on God’s prophetic timeline. The thought almost immediately landed upon things surrounding the book of Genesis—particularly, on the following:

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5)

We don’t have to stretch our powers of observation very far to grasp that we are indeed in a time that this scriptural pronouncement fits. But the above reference seemed still a bit too general in its indictment. I searched for refinement of that judgment through God’s Holy Word.

Next these words came to mind: God hates certain things. As a matter of fact, there are seven things He specifically hates:

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16–19)

We can look at these one at a time in order to determine if they fit the cultural/societal characteristics of our current national environment.

  • A PROUD LOOK

With the possibility that some might be offended, I question whether this generation is affected and infected by this particular characteristic. The Internet and social media sites give this generation countless venues via which to put forth pridefulness. Many present “proud looks” on their accounts, sometimes boasting and even being untruthful about their accomplishments.

  • A LYING TONGUE

During the past years, we’ve witnessed an entire news media that has put forth some of the most egregious lies imaginable. Our society and culture, although wise to the lies being perpetrated by mainstream media and the many alternate websites, nonetheless are swayed in what direction to take. They are easily persuaded by the smooth, lying tongues of media masters.

  • A SCHEMING, WICKED HEART

This can be seen by organizations and political office holders that champion anti-God ideologies in order to win votes, thus to feather their personal nests with large contributions from those who buy their influence.

These concoct and pass legislation that often goes against God’s order for mankind—for example, changing laws that formerly governed perverted activity, and even pedophile activity to make such evil acceptable rather than wicked and even illegal.

  • FEET THAT RUN SWIFTLY TOWARD MISCHIEF

I can see this in those within America’s political processes who construct total fabrication against their opponents. And the next thing God hates is akin to it.

  • A FALSE WITNESS OF SPEAKING LIES

Again, we see this through the political process. And, of course, this sort of devious activity takes place throughout the business world, and is rampant today in the personal sense.

  • SOWING DISCORD

We’ve watched as the nation has been torn apart. America is split almost down the middle in political ideology. I’m convinced that the educational system has worked feverishly to bring about this schism. The nation has, in this sense, sown to the wind. It is soon to reap the proverbial whirlwind, because of allowing the anti-God educators to plant seeds of discord. A house so discordant, so divided, cannot stand, Jesus said.

Perhaps you noticed that we skipped one particular matter God hates. I believe it to be the most troubling societal/cultural sin of all, one that’s especially egregious in the Almighty’s holy eyes.

  • HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD

Is there any among us who are innocent? All have sinned and come short of the glory of God, the Bible says. So, who are the “innocent” referenced in this condemnation?

For the Loving God to say He “hates” is perhaps an infinite concept that’s beyond my ability to grasp. But I believe that babies in the womb and very small children fit this category of “innocent.”

This nation is, I think it can be accurately said, among the guiltiest of shedding innocent blood, of slaughtering tiny innocents, even in the place they should be most protected—in their mothers’ wombs.

But now this sin God hates so much becomes even more horrendous, as the following news item validates.

Various abortion programs at the University of Pittsburgh have been getting the school slammed in recent days, with accusations it assembled a tissue bank holding hearts, legs and brains from unborn babies who were cut up and stored.

But one of the more horrific accusations has now come from the Centers for Medical Progress, which charged that the organs are removed from the unborn babies’ bodies before they are dead.

The CMP explained that the school has admitted that “ischemia time” that it cited in an application for federal tax money for its abortion program “refers to the time after the tissue collection procedure.”

The CMP explained, “Ischemia starts when the organ (the kidneys primarily in Pitt’s GUDMAP project) is cut off from blood circulation. The NIH defines ischemia as ‘lack of blood supply to a part of the body.’ The university states the fetal organs do not undergo ischemia—lose their blood supply—until ‘after the tissue collection procedure.’”

Officials in 1 state altered spoiled ballots to count them, the report says.

“This means the organs are still receiving blood supply from the fetal heartbeat during the ’tissue collection,'” CMP explained.

“Pitt is now admitting to news media that the aborted babies are still alive at the time their kidneys are cut out for NIH grant money,” explained CMP chief David Daleiden. (Bob Unruh, “Race-based aborted baby-parts operations reminiscent of Kermit Gosnell scandal,” WND, August 5, 2021)

Jesus said that the time just before His Second Advent will be just as it was in the days of Noah. The antediluvians’ thoughts were “only on evil continually.”

At this moment, babies—the only truly “innocent” among us, because they are not accountable for their sinful nature at this point—are being slaughtered by the thousands. Their blood cries out to the God of Heaven who loves them. Can it be any wonder that He literally “hates” this most heinous evil imaginable?

Abortion is the nation’s number-one national sin, I am convinced. The souls of these tiny, innocent ones must even at this moment—like those martyrs described in Revelation chapter 6—be crying out.

And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? (Revelation 6:10)

This world system that eagerly sheds innocent blood is on the cusp of paying an eternal price for this wickedness. But the individual sinner, even who has been involved in the satanically driven abortion industry, can escape the wrath of God to come.

Haiti: Death toll crosses 2,000 in the quake-stricken country after the 7.2 quake on August 14. As Todd Strandberg pointed out in his latest Nearing Midnight Update, “The people of Haiti follow a version of Roman Catholicism that is infused with voodoo rituals and beliefs.” They need to stop this practice and turn to the true gospel of Christ.

“Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips” (Psalms 16:4).

Vanuatu: 6.8 quake struck near coast on August 18. A 200-mile tsunami warning was later canceled.

VOLCANOES

Three volcanoes erupt at same time in Alaska in rare phenomena. The three volcanoes are under a code “orange” alert (potential to erupt or eruptions underway with minor ash emissions). Two others are under a code “yellow” alert (showing signs of unrest).

EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS

US: Tropical Storm Fred leaves behind days of damage. Fred brought torrential rain to areas already deeply saturated, causing flooding from Florida to North Carolina to Pennsylvania. 4 people are dead and 5 are still missing in North Carolina, and one person was killed in Florida.

US: Tropical Storm Henri forecast to become a hurricane by Saturday, August 21. A landfall along Long Island or southern New England Sunday morning or afternoon is most likely. Threatening to bring damaging winds, as much as 10 inches of rain and up to 5 feet of storm surge, Henri could be the first significant hurricane to make landfall in New England in 30 years.

US: Historic Arizona flood damages homes, leaves trail of debris in a “200-to-500-year rainfall event.”

US: USDA Crop Tour Warns: Megadrought Impacting Corn and Soybean Yields.

Mexico: Hurricane Grace strengthened for 2nd hit on Mexico. Hurricane Grace struck Mexico’s Caribbean coast just south of the ancient Mayan temples of Tulum early Thursday. The Category 1 storm had already soaked earthquake-damaged Haiti, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands en route to a direct hit on the Riviera Maya, the heart of Mexico’s tourism industry. Grace rapidly strengthened into a major Category 3 storm Friday night as it bore down on a second landfall in Mexico, this time taking aim at the Gulf coast after crashing through the country’s main tourist strip.

Sweden: Severe floods hit Gävle after two months’ worth of rain overnight (August 17-18).

Turkey: Flooding death toll climbs to 77; dozens missing. Rescuers recovered more bodies Monday from the severe flooding that devastated parts of Turkey’s Black Sea coast last week.

Israel: Jerusalem wildfire in pictures. The fire that began on August 15 took three days to bring under control. High temperatures and strong winds helped the fire spread fast to the west of the capital. The fire burned many times the amount of land than in previous fires.

France: Weekend winds threaten to fan deadly wildfire on French Riviera. Firefighters battling France’s worst wildfire of the summer said Friday the blaze had stopped expanding after five days, but changing winds over the weekend could make it harder to battle the flames. Two people have been killed.

Italy: About 800 wildfires have struck Italy this year, tripling the normal annual average and causing millions of dollars in damage. Over half were likely started by arsonists (some with Mafia ties) or farmers breaching fire rules, authorities say. With the earth parched, fires quickly take hold. Wildfires on the island of Sardinia have been described as “apocalyptic,” and a “state of calamity” was declared.

Almost as surprisingly, a report about scientists’ objections was published by Reuters, a mainstream media organization with a massive reach.

US: DHS issues terror alert equating Americans who oppose government Covid restrictions with 9/11 terrorists. The U.S. Army National Guard is recruiting for a job position described as “Internment/Resettlement Specialist” at the same time the Dept of Homeland Security is putting out alerts on “potential terrorist threats” that appear to equate Americans opposing government Covid measures with foreign terrorists who attacked America on 9/11. During their report on this new “terror alert,” a very alarming graphic was shown to viewers. We have never seen anything quite like this before. Under the heading “Potential Terror Threats,” the following three categories were listed:

“Opposition to Covid measures”
“Claims of election fraud, belief Trump can be reinstated”
“9/11 anniversary and religious holidays”

Virginia: UVA Students who didn’t meet vaccine mandate: disenrolled.

Washington State Rolls Out Strictest School Vaccine Mandate in U.S. Washington state is now requiring all teachers and school staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID as a condition of employment.

Washington State: University of Washington Medical Center is not permitting patients to remain on transplant lists if they refuse to get the jab. Sam Allen (needs heart transplant) and Derek Kovic (see that article; needs liver transplant patient) are two of the patients who’ve reported this.

Bernard LaPierre’s wife was found to be a good candidate to donate a kidney to her husband after testing. Then suddenly, they’re told he’d have to get the Covid vaccine before being allowed to have the transplant.

Singapore: British Man In Singapore Given 6 Weeks In Prison For Not Wearing Face Mask. And He Must Undergo a Psychiatric Assessment because he argued against the efficacy of face coverings in court.

In China: The world’s largest shipping port by cargo tonnage has shut down one of its key terminals following a confirmed case of Covid, putting further strain on the global shipping industry and disrupting supply chains.

France: ‘Take Back France Your Pass’: Mass Protests Erupt Against COVID-19 Vaccine Passports. Tens of thousands took to the streets across France to demonstrate against the government’s COVID vaccine passport mandate that prevents unvaccinated individuals from entering restaurants and bars, as well as taking long-distance trips.

Australia: Minister for Health tells parents 24,000 children will be herded into stadium to get the experimental Covid-19 vaccine. Armed guards will be there; no parents allowed inside. Pope Francis says on Assumption of Mary feast: ‘Humility is the way that leads to heaven.’ The Catholic church’s extreme focus on Mary is unbiblical. There is nothing in scripture about Mary ascending bodily to heaven, as did Jesus. The Assumption of Mary and the miraculous gathering of the apostles to witness the event (declared official dogma in 1950) is yet another addition to many unbiblical claims by the Roman Catholic Church that contradict the Word of God.

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:5-6). “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” (1 Timothy 2:5-6). “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

Israel lifts restriction on gay men donating blood. The health minister said the longstanding limitation was discriminatory and denigrating. Until Thursday, men seeking to donate blood in Israel were asked whether they’d same-sex relations in the past 12 months, a category that would disqualify them from giving. Now the questionnaire inquires whether a prospective donor has had “high-risk sexual relations with a new partner or partners” in the past three months, using gender-neutral wording.

God warns of the body being affected by disease from homosexual relations: “Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” (Romans 1:27). Aids, anyone?

Pro-Life Americans Peacefully Protesting Taxpayer-Funded Abortions Are Arrested. “America and freedom are endangered when political elites can arrest citizens in the public square just because they disagree with their message.” Pelosi and other Democrat leaders are trying to get rid of the *Hyde Amendment in federal spending bills and force taxpayers to pay for the killing of unborn babies in elective abortions. (Since 1976, the *Hyde Amendment has saved an estimated 2.5 million babies’ lives, including about 60,000 each year).

MSNBC Calls Christians the American Taliban Because They’re Pro-Life on Abortion. Twice in one week, pundits at MSNBC compared Christians to the Taliban. Joy Reid, speaking of the Taliban, said “our own far religious right” is “dreaming of a theocracy that would impose a particular brand of Christianity” on American society. Then, Dan Obeidallah picks up on the comparison by criticizing Republicans who cling to “a narrow reading of their religious beliefs,” noting that they want to make their “religious beliefs into the law of the land.” In both cases, MSNBC pundits claimed Christians are, just like the Taliban, against women’s rights. Reid accused Christians of wanting to “drive women from the workforce and solely into childbirth, and control all politics.” Ridiculous!

Even Some Mainstream Media dispute Biden’s claim that the Taliban is letting Americans through to the airport: “Why Do You Continue To Trust The Taliban Mr. President?” ABC News correspondent Ian Pannell, currently on the ground in Kabul disagreed vehemently with Biden’s assertions. “It just seems the reality and the rhetoric are miles apart. I’m not quite sure what advice the President is receiving, but the truth on the ground is that these people who are in fear of their lives can’t get through.” Even CNN reporter Clarissa Ward who had been reporting on the ground in Afghanistan, contradicted Biden. “We had difficulty getting into the airport,” Ward said. Lessons from Deuteronomy 28 and Isaiah 3 for Today

God told ancient Israel in Deuteronomy 28 of blessings for obeying him and curses that would befall the people if they did not obey Him. And Isaiah 3 describes the fall of ancient Israel, which has been the pattern for the fall of nations today. God does nothing without warning first. And we’re obviously being warned. Let’s see how many of these passages can apply to today, given the decline of spiritual and moral values.

In Deuteronomy 28, the Lord promised blessings for the nation if they obeyed Him:

1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

7 The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

12 The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13 And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath.

And God warned of curses for the nation that refused to obey Him:

16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.

17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.

21 The Lord shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.

22 The Lord shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.

23 And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.

24 The Lord shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust.

33 The fruit of thy land, and all thy labours, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway.

43 The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.

44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.

49 The Lord shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;

50 A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young:

Now, let’s take a look at Isaiah 3’s fall of a nation:
