You can expect high heat and humidity here in South Florida – but whew, stepping outside is like stepping into an oven. Today, after days of continuous heat, the air conditioner broke down, and we had to call an expert to fix it.
We humans have the answer to everything – maybe it’s just global warming or El Niño churning out in the Pacific. Nevertheless, there is no denying that people everywhere in the world are suffering from heat exhaustion and drought.
France is undergoing the hottest temperatures of all recorded time: 111 degrees Fahrenheit – as hot as it gets in the desert of Arizona; several people have died. In fact, Western Europe was in the grip of a heat wave on Wednesday that claimed dozens of lives, disrupted power supplies, and shut schools and cultural landmarks; forecasters warned the extreme temperatures could persist until the end of the week. In fact, some of the Fourth of July celebrations in DC had to be cancelled due to the heat.
There is an area in California in the United States with such high temperatures that it is called Death Valley. It’s not uncommon for sunlit rocks and paved surfaces around the world to become hot enough to cause serious burns. But when the 4th Angel delivers his bold judgment in Revelation 6:8, striking the sun, temperatures everywhere on Earth may far exceed those of Death Valley.
This verse comes from the Greek word deonym, which means something that is allowed or granted; that might mean the sun itself is not going to be changed so much as Earth will be more susceptible to it.
In other words, the bold judgment might mean something that restrains the sun’s potency, such as the ozone layer being crippled, allowing the sun to scorch Earth. Looking at all the environmental judgments together, one can see how they could combine to create extreme conditions. Earlier judgments may interfere with Earth’s natural defenses against solar radiation and temperature change. Life-threatening sunburn and perhaps skin cancer may become common.
What’s described here might be thought of as an extreme form of global warming. Glaciers may melt and become raging floods. Drought and heat may contribute to crop failure, causing famine and starvation. Grasslands would become deserts; wildfires would rage out of control. Air conditioners that have been pushed too hard would break down, causing massive deaths from heat exhaustion and sunstroke.
The Bible says that in the end times (probably during the end of the great tribulation), the heat would be unbearable when the “Fourth Rider” of the apocalypse appears. Revelation 16:8-9 tells that the fourth Angel poured his bowl onto the sun, with the result that the sun’s temperature becomes so high that its rays scorch people. But still, they would not repent.
God could just fry everyone, but there are some people worth salvaging; they are those who have repented and have received Jesus Christ as Savior of their lives.
To further the premise that these could be the end times, I remind you that Northern California is experiencing earthquakes even while Caracas, Venezuela, just underwent two major earthquakes in less than an hour. Many people died, and many others are buried in the resultant rubble of toppled buildings and apartments. Not a day goes by that we do not experience another catastrophe as these events get worse.
The war with Iran has just started up again, and Israel continues to hold Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon at bay, although President Trump wants them to hold off to reach a peace deal with Iran. Iran, on the other hand, is unwilling to concede defeat as the populace there suffers deprivation. Yet anyone who knows the Bible knows that these things must come to pass before the awesome day of the Lord.
I really don’t like to write about such tragic things, but my God-given mandate is to warn people of upcoming events that pertain to the end times, so believing that the last of the last days are here, I must, for all intents and purposes, warn the reader of things to come.
God will have a direct hand in this judgment since he is offended by the way we live – ignoring Him and having nothing to do with Him at all. We should all be thankful that his wrath is a controlled wrath, and the things he lets happen to people are to get them to repent and seek Him.
As things heat up (literally) and earthquakes rumble, war rages everywhere, and tragedy becomes unbearable, we REAL Christians will soon be gone – caught up in the rapture, as noted in the book of Thessalonians. So, take heart and keep looking up.
With my friends and family gathering for the Fourth of July weekend in Michigan, I’ve written the following:
Dear friends and family, sorry I couldn’t make it to the gathering, but I’m with you in spirit and think of all of you often. It is Saturday afternoon, and it is reported on Fox News that Iran has broken the peace treaty President Trump set before them. Therefore, retaliation strikes have resumed. This war may resume with Iran’s allies finally becoming involved. These allies are Russia, China, North Korea, Turkey, Sudan, and other lesser countries.
In the Northern Eastern hemisphere, Ukraine is raining down bombs (given to them by NATO) on Russia’s capital, Moscow, for the third day in a row. Thousands of men are leaving Russia by any means necessary to avoid being called into battle where they will surely die. Putin is backed into a corner with no way out. His only option now is to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine to save face – to say nothing of our continuing war in Iran.
Being near and dear to my heart, I urge all of you to consider a relationship with Almighty God. Only he can deliver you from the threats to come. I therefore urge you to repent – turn to Jesus Christ for salvation and begin or renew your relationship with him.
As for me, I’m good. I sleep like a baby and continue to warn others about the lateness of the hour. Jesus said this: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” So, I urge you to hand your life over to Christ Jesus and prepare for whatever lies ahead.
