Deep in the Heart of a Fool’s Paradise :: By Edwin Tan

It is never a case of one-way traffic; my articles do resonate with a sizeable number of readers – so I get quite a lot of emails from them. At the beginning of the month, I received a lengthy email from a reader from Spain. It was all about the grim situation over there where heeding the Living Word mattered. Everyone was virtually switched on to the trivia of the world versus the prophetic truth in Holy Writ. So much so that this person felt isolated from the disbelieving masses, only finding company with the like-minded from Germany.

Not long after reading this email, I heard what Jan Markell had to say about the situation in Colombia. She read an email from an individual in that country during a recent Understanding the Times presentation – almost a carbon copy of what I got from Spain! Eyes and ears turning away from the prophetic truth which would impact many lives in the coming year.

Right at home in Singapore where I am domiciled, there was no escape from a point-blank repudiation of the prophetic truth. A week ago, I met some Christian companions for lunch in the nation’s Chinatown. There was no need to talk about tin foil hats; these people were so engrossed in paraphernalia associated with the upcoming Lunar New Year. I read it loud and clear – no mention of COP 27 but something to tease their taste buds. They acceded to my recommendation: braised carp head and turtle soup – both served with boiled rice!

Western Europe, Latin America, and South East Asia have a common denominator where the prophetic truth in the Bible is concerned. Nobody wants to hear about it. Life would go on like what happened after the last world war. Back to the good old normal, even in the face of a looming global conflict.

“For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:3-5).

So it is simply said they are not like us because they are people of the night, professing Christians included. Perhaps there are some who have a sublime subconscious foreboding but outwardly opt for denial mode since mere mention of the contrary amounts to a societal taboo!

Human emotions which emanate from the fallen nature of mankind drive this reluctance to embrace the truth. Herein lie the proverbial roots that anchor many to planet Earth. These roots are in direct conflict with the Lord’s plan of redemption for all of humanity. Enough to give rise to the masses that disbelieve but choose to focus their attention on about every facet of materialism. Shunning certain eternal joy for a genuinely uncertain future based on the frailties of human intellectual faculties.

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world” (1 John 2:15-16).

These folks can only label anything connected with living Bible Prophecy sheepishly – conspiracy theories! Yet they are wowed and mesmerized by charlatans out to make more than a meal out of their inherent weaknesses. Take the case of the once wealthy burying their heads in a quagmire of hopelessness – all because they had great faith in a crooked twenty-eight-year-old by the name of Sam Bankman-Fried. When FTX was giving them a seemingly endless adrenaline rush, they probably scoffed loudly and menacingly at one of the watch people on the wall! That was not too long ago.

Praise God that He truly loves us and has a heart for our well-being. We can call on Him 24/7. He will never fail us in any way, so unlike the ones in their swanky outfits, stretched limos and corporate jets! These people are incapable of the truth despite sounding very convincing at the very beginning. Herein is the plain truth – “in hope of eternal life with God, who cannot lie, promised before time began” (Titus 1:2).

As sons and daughters of an everlasting light, we believe in an infallible Creator who is incapable of any lie. Everything is the truth; it will come to pass at His appointed moment. Our wish is for others to be like us, savoring the sweetness of the truth at the given time. But they are as stubborn as mules, at times scoffing and mocking that which is meant for their eternal benefit. Especially when it comes from someone close to us, there is cause for weariness amidst much frustration. This is surely one of the fiery darts the enemy uses against us for the purpose of draining our strength.

With this trend, there is far more than a glimmer of hope for all who are experiencing weariness. Our days as salt and light are indeed numbered. We could be out of here swiftly, at a moment we least expect. The people who disbelieve would have to swallow the extremely bitter pill. The truth will implode before their eyes and ears, except that there is no turning the clock backward. Will they get through? A really tough call for them. They might recall what we told them beforehand. Of course, they have the Two Witnesses plus 144,000 Jewish evangelists!
