Hebrews Lesson 41: By Faith Part 2 :: By Sean Gooding

Chapter 11: 8-12

8 “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.”

We often hear about faith in Christian circles, and there are many who do not know what faith really means or is, for that matter. I came across this definition on gotquestions.org, and I decided to put it for us to look at:

This definition of faith contains two aspects: intellectual assent and trust. Intellectual assent is believing something to be true. Trust is actually relying on the fact that something is true. A chair is often used to help illustrate this. Intellectual assent is recognizing that a chair is a chair and agreeing that it is designed to support a person who sits on it. Trust is actually sitting in the chair.

Notice the two aspects of faith. Faith is not some ethereal idea that is not founded in facts. Rather, our faith is grounded in documented and provable Biblical facts. Many of the books, like Luke, give detailed accounts of who ruled where and when. We have the names of Roman rulers, we have the names of Caesars, and we know when they lived. We have specific geographical locations that we can use to find things, finds where events happened and even when they happened. There are scientific facts in the Bible that cannot be disputed, things that God spoke about before He allowed men to discover them.

If you take the time to examine some of the information in this link, you will find some eye-opening science in the Bible that was there before we knew what it was.

https://www.christianpost.com/voices/scientific-facts-in-the-bible.html

The second part of the definition is then to act based on faith. Abraham believed God and moved his whole family to a place that God promised to give to his descendants. Noah built an Ark, having never seen rain but believing that God was able. Abraham offered Isaac, knowing that God had kept his promise once and that he had received a son in his old age and Sarah long after the times of child-bearing. In verse 11, we are told that Sarah judged that God was faithful to do all He had promised.

At times, these wonderful patriarchs and matriarchs of Christianity did struggle with the doubts that come to all finite saved persons. But in the totality of their lives, we see the faith that God was able to do all He had said He would do and more. Today, we see the fulfillment of verse 12, the Jewish population, even with the thousands of years of hatred, hunting, and running, measure almost 10,000,000 in Israel in 2021, the last number that we have. These all from this one old couple, he 100 years and she 90 at the time of Isaac’s birth. They never saw Jews as much as the ‘sand of the seashore,’ but we do. Thus, we are challenged by immutable facts to put our faith in the same God that these persons did. We are challenged to serve and love Him with the same fervor that they did and to look for His appearing as they did as well.

We, like these heroes of the faith, can be just as confident in the promises that God made to us. In fact, here we are with thousands of years of evidence, a completed Bible, the ability to see the hand of God in every corner of the planet in almost real-time, and the plethora of scientific evidence for God that we can research and see; these all create a foundation of ROCK to carve out our faith in. Yet, like our spiritual ancestors, we, at least I, struggle with doubts. I struggle with sin, and I struggle with wondering if God is truly on my side. Yes, the same struggle these folks in Hebrews 11 had.

Yet, in this chapter, God exclusively highlights their faith, their faithfulness, and the wonders that He brought about because they had faith. God is bigger than our failures, bigger than our lacking at times, and certainly bigger than our doubts. What was it that kept these people going? In verse 10, we see that these folks kept their eyes on the promises of God. He promised Abraham a new home on earth. But He also promised him a new home beyond death. This hope, this focus, kept Abraham hoping and moving through all the delays, all the hiccups, all the failures, and all the stumbles.

Jesus called us to live the same way – focus on our new home, our new place, our permanent dwelling. We see this in Matthew 6:33,

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (KJV).

Hebrews 11:16, “But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.”

Colossians 3:1-4, “Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”

As we approach the end of all things, it will become more and more important for us to focus on Heaven, as our earthly home crumbles and the people begin to hate the ‘truth’ tellers more and more. If we are not focused, as these that went before us, on the city whose builder is God, we will faint and fail and maybe even go backward in our service to the Lord. God is faithful, and He is able to keep and strengthen us all the way through to the end and give us endurance just like He gave endurance to these great men and women of our faith. Most Christians I speak to are looking forward to meeting Moses, Abraham, and other ‘giants’ of our faith. Let me ask you, how would you feel to know that maybe they are waiting to meet you?

Hold on; Jesus is coming, and His promises are assured.

God bless you,

Moving Back to Texas: Church Ministry (Please pray) :: By Keith Watts

On Wednesday, April 26, my son Jeremiah and I will be leaving for Alice, Texas, at 4:30 am. We will be arriving at Grace Baptist Church on Friday sometime in the afternoon. I ask you to pray for a safe trip. Lord willing, I will become interim pastor or pastor. We will see what the Lord’s will is. I will be under the authority of Pastor Frank McCarley. He is the pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Portland, Texas, and also the interim pastor at Grace Baptist in Alice, Texas. I will be helping him out in both churches. (May the Lord’s will be done.) I am really excited about this; I believe the Lord is going to work in a mighty way.

On April 28, 2020, the Lord allowed me to start an online ministry. The name of this ministry is 4HIM Online Ministries. The Lord has called me to be an Online Missionary to the world. I will still be doing this ministry along with the two churches. The Lord is working in this ministry in a mighty way. He is spreading this ministry all over the world. I would like to tell you about this ministry and what is involved.

  1. The Worldwide Prayer Movement
  2. Leading false ministers to Jesus Christ
  3. Teaching ministers to preach the sound doctrines of the Word of God (not one false doctrine should be preached)
  4. Distributing Gospel tracts around the world
  5. Distributing discipleship courses in a booklet and through a WhatsApp contact list
  6. Distributing the Bible
  7. Getting pastors to get their church members to focus on prayer and fasting (having prayer warriors in their church)
  8. Being a mentor to pastors and preachers (pray for them also)
  9. Preach live online.
  10. So many pastors have shared the messages on my YouTube channel (to their church members and pastors).
  11. Preach the gospel of Jesus Christ all over the world.
  12. Put the messages on radio stations and take mission trips (when the Lord opens doors and provides the funds).

This is what is going on in this ministry. Pastor James and I are working hand-in-hand. We have started three baby churches in the Mityana district of Uganda. Pastor James will be the one to send out the gospel tracts and course. Pray for Pastor James’ ministry, Gospel Tracks House. He is doing wonderful work for the Lord. He has helped me put some of the messages from the YouTube channel on radio stations.

The Worldwide Prayer Movement

The Lord is spreading this movement all over the world. We pray, fast, and repent for nations for a 24-hour period. I ask prayer warriors from all over the world to join us on a set date with set nations (this is each individual prayer warrior doing it on their own). We have already done this for over half of the nations of the world. We will do all nations and start over. We believe we are moving the heart of God. This prayer movement is all about interceding on behalf of precious lost souls all over the world. The Lord is doing something here.

Leading false ministers to the Lord Jesus Christ

The Lord has allowed me to be a part of leading so many false ministers to Christ through the messages on my YouTube channel and witnessing to them one-on-one. I am asking the Lord to give me more time to do this. I really enjoy witnessing to false ministers. The Lord is opening up the hearts of false ministers to the gospel of Jesus Christ. (THEY NEED A SAVIOR ALSO.)

Teaching ministers to preach the sound doctrines of the Word of God (not one false doctrine should be preached)

As a preacher, the number one thing in my heart is to preach the truth. So many ministers preach that Jesus is the only way, but I am finding that many do not even know the workings of the Holy Spirit according to the Scriptures. We as preachers should not even preach one false doctrine. It seems to me more and more ministers’ hearts are being opened by the Holy Spirit to their false teaching.

Distribution of gospel tracks, discipleship courses, and Bibles around the world

It is amazing how the Lord brings you to the right people at the right time. I am trusting in the Lord that he will provide the funds for this part of the ministry. The Lord is working in this part of the ministry.

Getting pastors to get their church members to focus on prayer and fasting (having prayer warriors in their church)

These prayer warriors are praying throughout the week for the pastor and services. Prayer, fasting, and preaching the true Word of God have more power than anything on the face of the earth. What would happen in a church if the pastors focused on this? I have over 20 messages of prayer on my channel. There are pastors that have shown these messages to their people.

Being a mentor to pastors and preachers (pray for them also)

This is so close to my heart. I love preachers. They ask me questions about the Bible and ministry. I pray for them. Many call me Daddy (spiritual father figure). The Lord is leading many false ministers, young preachers, and preachers that are off on their doctrines to this preacher. This is amazing to me. So many false ministers have asked me to preach to their people. This is a chance for the people to hear the gospel for the first time.

Preach live online

This is so amazing. If I had time, I would be preaching somewhere around the world every day. People are starving for the Word of God. When I talk to pastors here in the USA, I am saying to them that every church needs a full-time online missionary to the world. This is a tremendous outreach for Christ. They would be preaching every week to someone that needs to hear the Word of God. I am praying that the Lord will open up the eyes of Mission boards and pastors across the country on this one, open their eyes to all that this ministry is doing. It is amazing to me what the Lord is doing.

So many pastors have shared the messages on my YouTube channel (to their church members and pastors)

When I started the YouTube channel, I asked the Lord to spread the messages all over the world, and that is what He is doing (thank you, Jesus). Many Bible colleges have shared the messages with their Bible students. The Lord is working.

Preach the gospel of Jesus Christ all over the world

The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; this is the gospel. This is the only hope mankind has. There is no other gospel.

Put the messages on radio stations and take mission trips (when the Lord opens doors and provides the funds)

The Lord has allowed me to have some of the messages on the radio station. He will have to open the doors for this part of the ministry. I am trusting in the Lord that he will open the doors for mission trips also.

Personal Prayer Request

The Lord has sent me a wife-to-be. She is my fiancé. Her name is Gemma. She is from the Philippines. You may not know this, but my wife Jenni went home to be with the Lord last year. Gemma is a widow of 19 years. She told me a few weeks ago that she had been praying for a lifetime prayer partner for 18 years, and the Lord answered her prayer when he gave Keith Watts to her. The spiritual walk of this lady is so amazing. She has been walking with the Lord her whole life. She received Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1979. She is moving to Texas, and I believe it is the Lord’s will for us to get married by the end of the year. She is working on her passport starting Monday. Love is so amazing when Christ is at the center of the relationship. Thank you for your prayers.

SIX PRAYER REQUESTS

On April 26, Jeremiah and I will be moving back to Texas. It will take two and a half days to get there. I will be under the authority of Pastor Frank McCarley. I will be helping him with the two churches.

  1. Grace Baptist in Portland, Tx (Near Corpus Christi)
  2. Grace Baptist in Alice, Tx (outside of Corpus Christi)
  3. If it is the Lord’s will, I will become Interim pastor of Grace Baptist in Alice.
  4. Pray for our safe trip to Texas.
  5. For Pastor Frank McCarley and I
  6. For Revival in these two churches

I ask all prayer warriors from around the world to fast at least one meal a week and put us and these two churches on your daily prayer list.

I believe the Lord is going to do mighty things in these two churches. Thank you for your prayers.

I will still be an Online Missionary to the world through 4HIM Online Ministries.
