The Elect of God – Us :: By Jim Towers

As the elect of God, we shouldn’t be surprised when we read about omens and portents in the skies. In fact, we should expect them to happen at this point in time. After all, these are the final days of the Last Days that the Bible speaks of.

Should we make plans for the immediate future or long-range plans for our children? This is a hard question to answer because we are all different with different perspectives and agendas. But the Bible tells us to continue with life, and the word of God is never wrong about these things. The reason is that we can’t stop doing what we’re doing and begin to panic, as some of us would be fearful for our lives or fear for our loved ones. The one thing we can and should do is reach out to our neighbors and friends with the good news of the Gospel, and God will provide for your needs (notice I said needs, not frivolous wants).

It always troubled me that more “believers” didn’t adhere to this tenent of the faith. Believers who spent most of their time watching football, playing golf, or watching porn. Yes, even believers are wont to indulge in these things without a clue about what’s going on outside in the real world.

Several years ago, God began to really impact my life, especially when I began ministering to others. This little story is just one of the many I’ve experienced. I’ve got a feeling that he is going to do the same for many others who throw their lives away for Him. Jesus said, “Only those who throw their lives away for my sake… will ever really know what it means to live.” (Mark 8:35, TLB).

As usual, my residual check was late in arriving; it was late at night, and I was famished. I popped into the Donut Shop, which at the time was my mission station. No one was there but the new Pakistani manager. “Arrrd joo the Jeem guy who caan feex any-ding.” he asked?

I knew he meant me, so I answered in the affirmative, “Yes, that’s me – what’s your problem?” I asked.

“Welle… dee dour on dee left ees nodt opening widhout throuble.”

There were double doors at the entrance – one to enter and another to leave through.

I checked the door, and sure enough, it was scraping along the aluminum threshold that had come loose because of the rubbing away of the screw that was holding it in place; it was now buckling up against the door frame. “Screeeeeeeeeaaaaach!” it said every time the door was opened. The sound alone made your skin crawl.

I thought, “Here is where I get a chance to eat.”

“I’ll fix it for twenty bucks; all I need is a hammer and drill.”

The manager said they didn’t have much, but he’d see what he could find. He left to examine the back room while I examined the problem and how it could be resolved. “No biggie,” I thought.

The manager came out with the hammer and drill, which, to my surprise, had a cement bit already in it and the size I would need as well. The manager got an extension cord, and I proceeded to go to work, knowing that my only recourse was to drill tight alongside the screw for the new screw to be inserted. As I worked, I began to realize that only one thing would work in holding the threshold down securely. I finished drilling, and all I needed now was a one-inch cylindrical cement nail. “There,” I said to the manager. “All I need is a cement nail, and I’ll pick it up tomorrow morning and insert it for you. That will be twenty dollars,” Sahib.

“No, no, no!” he said while shaking a finger at me, “I cand do dat. You feex, den I pay!”

“But, but, but,” I replied and walked out – or better said – staggered out into the dark, humid night. It must have been about midnight or close to it.

“God” I cried, “Why have you let me down like this? I thought we were friends? Don’t I always try to do what you ask me to do in the Holy Scriptures? Yes, I stumble occasionally, but you know I’m only human!”

I staggered on into the quiet night and turned to go to the place I was staying. As I rounded the corner to go through a small industrial area, there was a tall streetlight with an unusual bell-shaped aluminum shade that cast an intense circular light on the one-way street below. Through sleepy eyes, which were cast on the ground, I saw something that took my breath away. “No, it can’t possibly be – but it was – there in the center of the well-lit area was a gleaming object that I determined was about an inch long. Staggering to where the small object was, I bent over to pick it up. LO and BEHOLD, it was a galvanized – cylindrical – one-inch nail!

I died from hunger, I thought. Either that or I must be dreaming; maybe I just flipped out from being hungry. When I touched it and examined it, I was flabbergasted, to say the least. Nevertheless, now my body surged with new strength, and I practically ran back to the donut shop, deliriously happy. I finished the job, got my twenty dollars, and paid for a sandwich and a cinnamon roll – a big one and had money left over for breakfast. If I remember right, I got my check the next day or soon after.

That was the beginning of the many miracles that happened to me over my many years of ministry, a ministry that continues today filled with miracles that just won’t quit.

Book report:

Like Dr. Jordan Peterson – Dr. Henry Cloud is a clinical psychologist who also writes books on the human psyche. In his most recent book, Why I Believe, He goes into detail about this and that that affects human beings, much like Jordan Peterson. They rarely give God credit for healing their minds and spirits but, instead, give credit to other fallible men like themselves. You almost have to drag a confession of faith from them – that God is alive and well and still performing miracles today.

“The just shall live by faith.” “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” “Faith comes by hearing [learning] and hearing by the word of God.”

The Evil that Men (mankind) Do! :: By Sean Gooding

“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” (Jeremiah 17:9).

“For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you” (Mark 7:21-23).

One of the hardest things to come to grips with is how evil we truly are. I often say to young Christians and try to remind myself that we really do not know how sinful we are until we get saved, and then the Holy Spirit begins to shine His light into the crevices of our souls and into the secrets in our lives. Truthfully, it can be quite defeating having to come to grips with how evil I am and how unlike Christ I can be. We now live in a world that has abandoned any pretense of being good. Evil is now promoted and even celebrated. Evil is loved and being pushed as the norm.

Jesus warned us that people love darkness because their deeds are evil, but now we are seeing that people have brought their deeds well out into the light. It has become evil to call out evil. It has become hated to call out perverseness and sickening sins.

Mankind has always been sinful. I am reading in the book of 1 Kings right now, and one of the kings had to get rid of the sodomites when he came to power. It seems that sexual perversion and effeminate men go hand in hand with evil. It is almost the most important fruit of evil. We are beginning to learn, sadly, that behind the scenes, evil has been rampant in our entertainment industries, the government, and maybe even in some ‘churches.’

I recall being warned by my Dad, that old fuddy-duddy, about the free sexual tendencies of the rock and roll world that I was immersed in as a kid. I listened to KISS, AC/DC, and a host of other rock and roll bands that promoted free sex and drug use.

Now, when adults engage in sexuality between men and women, that is one thing. But when there is the abuse of children, we can begin to see what happened to people like Michael Jackson and many others that had the innocence of their childhood stolen by grown men and some women as they sexually and emotionally abused these kids.

I saw an interview with a very famous young actress (Shirley Temple) where she talked about meeting with a producer in a hotel where they separated her from her mom, and the man, an adult, met her basically naked in a bathrobe. She, being about 12 or 13, had never seen a naked man, and embarrassment led her to begin giggling. She eventually left the room and met up with her mom; later on, she found out that her mom had also encountered a naked man in another room in the hotel. This attack on kids has been going on for decades; it is nothing new.

We are beginning to see that there is rampant homosexuality in the music industry, and it has been there forever. I recall my dad talking about Johnny Matthis, and it seemed like he was an anomaly. Rock Hudson on the Hollywood side also seemed to be an anomaly, but we are beginning to see that this was much more prevalent; these were just two that rose above the secrets. Fame has a hefty price. I am not sure that I would want any of my kids to be involved in either the music or Hollywood industries.

This kind of evil, this sexual perversion, may not be as prominent in churches, but sadly, it is there. There is perversion of the Gospel that has permeated too many churches. There are all kinds of things going on in churches each Sunday that are simply blasphemy. They entertain and excite but never disciple the people. Most of the ones in attendance are lost; they have no relationship with Jesus. They experience an emotional high, are often affirmed as being ‘good,’ and never have to come face to face with their own evil. No evil, no conviction of the Holy Spirit, no salvation, and no hope. This is evil as well.

People used to be able to trust their government; we cannot. Many of our current leaders are evil to the core. They hate God, defy His precepts, and see nothing wrong with promoting evil and punishing good. They, in fact, hate good. Good is abhorrent to them. As such, we have a generation of young men and women who cannot discern between good and evil. They, too, have come to accept evil as good.

I recall just recently seeing a young lady talking about why she ended a relationship with her boyfriend. According to her, he got ‘red-pilled.’ He came to see that men were men, women were women, and just maybe children should not be lied to about and forced into transitioning to the opposite sex. This turned her off of the young man. Imagine that.

I am also amazed at how many ‘church’ people feel the need to affirm sin, affirm abortion, affirm homosexuality, and the like. I see conservative preachers out on the road, out at colleges, often get attacked by ‘religious’ people who call them hateful for simply stating what God clearly says in the Bible. I just saw a ‘preacher’ apologizing for something Jesus taught about women and said that Jesus needed to learn a few things. This is evil.

Sadly, things will not get better. The current US administration may slow the tide of rot in the US, but eventually, they will elect an evil leader who will take them back to the path of darkness. Jesus is coming; more and more, I feel the urgency in my heart. But it may get a bit hairy for us before He gets here. I keep praying, Lord, please help me not to deny you like Peter if I get afraid or hurt; please help me to humbly stand for you if I get arrested or tortured for the name of Jesus.

We need to be praying, meditating and looking. Be wise and be prepared. It looks like there is a whole lot of evil about to be uncovered, and once it hits the light, we do not know how it will react and who it will target. Look up, pray up, and stay in the Word.

God bless you,
