Psalm 110: The Story of Jesus :: By Sean Gooding

There are many parts of the Old Testament that are mentioned in the New Testament. An example of that is Habakkuk 2:4, “the just shall live by faith.” It is also mentioned in Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, and Hebrews 10:38. But no other passage of the Old Testament is mentioned or referenced more than Psalm 110. It is mentioned or referenced in Matthew 22:44, 26:64; Mark 13:36, 14:62, 16:19; Luke 20:42, 22: 69; Acts 2:34-35, 5:31, 7:55-56; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:25; Ephesians 1:20; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 1:3, 13, 8:1, 10:12-13, 12:2, and 1 Peter 3:22-24.

Why is this Psalm so important? I mean, Psalm 22 is about the day and the events surrounding the crucifixion; why not quote this one over and over again? Well, this Psalm is about the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus. In it, along with Matthew 22, we are exposed to the Trinity and see YHWH, Adonai, and the Holy Spirit all working together. Jesus tells the Pharisees in Matthew 22:43 that the Spirit allows David to see this conversation in Heaven, 1000 years before Jesus was born. We have the entire Godhead; YHWH speaking to Adonai, and that is being allowed by the Spirit.

We have a world of churches that talk about Jesus, and all they preach is Jesus and His love – He loves everyone; He is love, love, love, and they never talk about the Jesus that is coming. But here in this Psalm, we get to see the entire person of the Jesus that will return shortly.

Let us set the tone; Jesus is told by YHWH (LORD) to sit at His right hand. Here we learn two things: that Jesus is sitting, meaning the job is done, and He is sitting at the seat of power. He is at Yahweh’s right hand. In Acts 7:56, Stephen sees Jesus standing at the Father’s right hand as He welcomed Stephen home. Jesus was in the seat of Power before He was born, and He returned to the seat of Power when He went back home to Heaven.

In verse 2, we see that he will reign in Zion, and He will reign in power and strength. By the way, Zion is Israel.

Verses 3-4: not only is He going to rule and be the King there, but He will also be the Priest after the order of Melchizedek. We first meet this Melchizedek in Genesis 14 when Abram is returning from rescuing Lot. He is met by the High Priest of Salem, who is also called the Prince of Salem. Salem will later be conquered by the Jebusites and be called Jebu-Salem, which is later conquered by David and comes to be called Jerusalem. Here is where Melchizedek lives, reigns as a King (called a Prince) in those days, and also is the High Priest. We are told in Hebrews 7:1-10 that this Melchizedek, whom Abraham met (verse 4), has no father and no mother, no genealogy. He has neither beginning of days nor end of life and is made like the Son of God. Jesus is this Priest forever, and He is also the King (Prince of Salem), which translates to Prince of Peace. This is Jesus!!!

Verses 5-7: What will Jesus, the High Priest and King, do when He comes? He will judge the nations (verse 6); also see the last part of Matthew 25: the judgment of the sheep and the goats. Then He will fill the place with dead bodies, and in Ezekiel 39:11-16, we see that when the Messiah returns, He will kill so many people that they will take 7 months to bury all the bodies, and they will use the armaments of war to burn fires for 7 years without cutting down any trees. And back in Psalm 110:6, Jesus will EXECUTE the heads of many nations.

Wow, justice will be done! Too many of us forget that Jesus is the God of wrath as well. When He comes the next time, there will be no humility, no meekness, and no loneliness. HE will come, and the skies will be filled; billions will die for their rebellion against the Most High God, and He will bring justice to the widows, the orphans, and the mistreated. He will kill the people who think their power and/or money camouflages them. They are wrong; Jesus sees it all, and it is all recorded. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

But in all this, God is still not willing that any should perish. His patience is longsuffering, and His grace is extended to all who will call on the name of the Lord Jesus, who will humble themselves and beg for God’s mercy on us rotten sinners. He will hear and save.

Government study finds link between belief in gender ideology and support for political violence
Proponents of “radical gender ideology” are more likely to “hold left-wing authoritarian beliefs and believe political violence is justified,” according to a Department of Health and Human Services study out Wednesday. The HHS-commissioned study also claims that individuals who held left-wing authoritarian beliefs “were more likely to justify political violence as well than non-left-wing participants.” “This study raises important questions about what happens when ideology is given the authority of medicine,” HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Brian Christine said in a statement.

What’s the Lesson in Dolly Parton’s Passing?
So why did I respond to the sad death of this particular celebrity? Well, for a couple of reasons. One is that the announcement of her death was very, very public, with many people commenting on it and many (including some Christian leaders) lifting her up as a wonderful example of a Christian for others to follow. Now, certainly her remarkable generosity is worth emulating and has impacted many people over the decades. It’s a good thing to celebrate a virtue like generosity. But as I shared in the video, she had many beliefs that contradicted Scripture, and Christians need to be discerning, comparing everything against Scripture and not putting anyone up on a pedestal. Iran’s Nuclear Debate Erupts Into Political Storm as Top Officials Question Cost of Enrichment
Iran’s nuclear program has erupted into an unexpected political storm, after President Masoud Pezeshkian’s son and a key adviser openly defended calls to reconsider the cost of uranium enrichment as the country faces mounting wartime pressure, challenging a program Tehran has long portrayed as a vital national interest. Adding fuel to an already heated debate, Yusef Pezeshkian argued Sunday that Iran should advance its uranium enrichment, missile and drone capabilities only when doing so serves the country’s interests, stressing that such decisions must be made with a clear understanding of their consequences. “Enrichment is not a religious principle, it is not our honor, and our survival does not depend on it,”

Canadians moving to Israel find Jewish future, worry about those left behind
Yoel and Yael Eis did not uproot their four children from Thornhill, Ontario, because they felt they had to flee Canada. Their relatives were already in Israel, and the timing felt right, they told JNS at a Nefesh B’Nefesh party attended by hundreds of new olim, immigrants to Israel, on a patio outside the nonprofit’s Jerusalem offices. “I think day-to-day, we felt safe,” Yael Eis, 40, told JNS. “We were in a bubble, part of a really nice, comfortable, easy Jewish community.”

‘We Are Legion’: Candace Owens And Her Audience Are Brazenly Giving Heed To The Doctrine Of Demons
One pastor, a friend of mine, lost several in the church to the vain babblings of Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson, who both claim to be “Christians.”Upon further examination, it becomes clear that these individuals—far from holding to Biblical truth—are giving heed to the demonic. Look no further than the disturbing remarks recently made by Candace Owens. She began by reading a comment from a viewer that stated, “We are legion right behind you …

Comparing Political Policies To Scripture: Why Christians Must Vote In The Midterm Elections
The United States is approaching yet another tipping point in an ongoing battle between clashing worldviews, with public policy issues such as religious liberty, parental rights, abortion, euthanasia and transgender ideology taking center stage. The election of candidates running for both state and federal offices in November will determine the direction the nation will take in the coming years. One-third of the seats in the Senate (35) are up for grabs, and all 435 districts in the House are in play. In recent years, majorities in both the U.S. House and the Senate have been some of the narrowest ever, raising the stakes in congressional elections.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar warned Tuesday that Israel will retaliate if Britain moves ahead with threatened sanctions over Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria, declaring that Jerusalem is already preparing for the possibility of British action. “If Britain acts against the State of Israel, the State of Israel will act against Britain,” Sa’ar said in an interview with Ynet’s political podcast. “We have tools.”

CHINESE ESPIONAGE THREAT: Suspected Spy Drone Caught Over Sensitive U.S. Missile Base
U.S. authorities intercepted a Chinese-made quadcopter after it repeatedly flew over the highly sensitive White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico for approximately five days, as officials investigated what they suspect was a Chinese intelligence-gathering operation. According to a CNN report cited by Channel 14, the drone repeatedly entered and exited restricted airspace while a joint task force involving the U.S. military, FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Pentagon officials tracked its movements. Authorities eventually used electronic warfare equipment to force the drone to land inside the base.

Venezuela could soon become a much bigger part of Chevron’s global oil business, according to Bloomberg. The company is reportedly nearing an agreement to take control of operations at two large crude-producing areas in the country’s Carabobo region, adding access to substantial heavy-oil resources. The potential expansion comes as Washington seeks to attract more American capital to Venezuela’s energy sector and boost the country’s output.

The State Is Coming For Your Roomba
the Federal Communications Commission added foreign-produced “advanced robotic devices” to its Covered List, generally preventing new models from receiving the authorization needed to be imported, marketed, or sold in the United States. Although early headlines emphasized Chinese humanoid robots and mechanical dogs, Sean Hollister reported in The Verge that the rule also encompasses robotic vacuums, lawnmowers, delivery machines, and many warehouse robots. It potentially applies to almost any wireless, software-controlled ground robot weighing more than 4.4 pounds and capable of perceiving its surroundings.

“State Terrorism”: Putin Blasts Zelensky After Wild Threat Of Drone Attacks To ‘De Facto Close’ Russian Airspace
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky just issued a crazy and unexpected threat which portends a major escalation in the war. Certainly it will provoke the Kremlin into even more uncontrolled escalation and massive strikes, such as has been (somewhat unusually) happening on Odesa port as well as the capital city of late. He has vowed moving forward to de facto close Russia’s skies, and has put Russian airlines, insurers, and foreign governments on notice.

Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), who had asked him and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in an Aug. 18 letter to confirm they won’t send troops to polls. Caine wrote in response that state and local officials retain responsibility for overseeing election administration and security. “The Joint Force has no plans to send Federal military personnel or Federalized members of the National Guard to polling places during the 2026 elections,” Caine wrote.

Is There A Possibility That A Hurricane Could Make Landfall In Southern California Next Week?
I want to be very careful with what I say in this article, because the forecasts that I am going to discuss are not completely certain. Meteorologists are telling us that a tropical disturbance in the Pacific Ocean known as “95E” has now become a named storm known as Tropical Storm Marie. That just happened a little while ago. It is expected that Tropical Storm Marie will develop into a hurricane, and some models indicate that it could move in a northerly direction toward Southern California. If this storm were to make landfall in California as a hurricane, that would be an extremely unusual event, because no hurricane has ever made landfall in the entire recorded history of the state of California.

September Chaos Erupts: Diesel Spikes And Global Bond Yields Go Nuts As The U.S. And Iran Trade Ballistic Missile Attacks
The month of September has sure started with a bang. President Trump told us in advance that strikes on Iranian targets were coming, and he warned the Iranians not to hit back. Of course the Iranians did not heed that warning at all. Instead, they have launched a massive barrage of ballistic missiles in response. Missiles are flying back and forth all over the Middle East as I write this article, and the danger of a significant escalation is very real. Meanwhile, the price of diesel is absolutely soaring and global bond yields are marching into unprecedented territory. It appears that we could be right on the verge of some sort of a financial meltdown.
