Izz ad-Din Beyk was the commander of Hamas’s armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, in northern Gaza. In his role, he led “the brigade’s terrorists and directed them to carry out terrorist attacks” against Israeli soldiers and civilians, according to the Israeli statement. “In addition, he worked to rebuild the brigade’s forces, which had suffered severe damage during the course of the war,” the military writes.
