Dust Off :: By Edwin Tan

“But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, ‘The dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city” (Luke 10:10-12).

Does what is mentioned in the above passage of the Gospel apply to the world in which we dwell today? Much the grim reality of the current situation in an ever-darkening planet. Do we attribute this ungodly trend to implosion of knowledge or, rather, information? It is backdrop that in turn generates concept after concept. Critical thought is definitely at its zenith as I write.

Let us take a trip back some to the very start of the millennium. Cell phones were very much utilitarian in nature, a far cry from the sophistication found in the latest Androids and smart devices. The Internet existed but more like a no-frills setup. It would be some years before the Tube and Facebook hit the scene. So then, the rest is recent history as we all know it.

A significant number of us who walk in the light could adapt smoothly to the technology that was at hand. Many of us prayed that this could serve as a means of bringing many to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus. It sure did! It is still going on even in these testing times, but alas, this technology did produce a crop of disbelievers and even God-haters. Not difficult for anyone well-versed in Bible Prophecy to get the picture.

Way before these innovations were ever on the drawing board, Israel became a nation, and Jerusalem was part of the Jewish nation after that. The clock was ticking towards the last days; so with the Tube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in full swing in 2021 – it is not hard for us to fully understand the times in our spiritually awake mode! It is these manmade tools that could otherwise be used to glorify our Lord that work in the opposite direction – allowing for the relentless proliferation of all forms of wickedness known to humanity.

What has been said is certainly no food for thought. A reality check! More like a hot landing zone. These people are more than trigger-happy when it comes to taking potshots at the Good News. Their psyches are lined with the grime that spewed from the Prince of the Power of the Air. More than enough ammunition to relegate the Gospel to nothing more than a fairy tale.

Our Lord Jesus knew that this day would be the norm when he dished out strong advice to His disciples. When the dust is shaken off the soles, it is all about moving on. It is definitely not about wasting time with the unrepentant, especially those who are gunning for protracted arguments which are fruitless. There are those who genuinely want to hear the Word of Truth. Time is of the essence when it comes to bringing the repentant to a saving knowledge of Christ.

The Lord also pointed out to the Day whereby it would be worse for the city in question than Sodom. This is the price for turning down the salt and light that would have prevented the decay, thereby stopping the damnation. This applies to the world of disbelief that is ever-growing as our day approaches. Yes! Our day where we will never look back!
