No Gimmicks – Just Jesus :: By Geri Ungurean

Raised in a Jewish home, I was forever searching for the truth about Jesus.

When I would ask about Him in my synagogue, here are some things I heard:

  • Shhhhhh…….don’t talk about him here.
  • He was just a man- NOT who he said he was.
  • His disciples stole his body in the night and hid it.
  • You CANNOT be a Jew and love Jesus.

But I continued my search for the truth. How could “Just a man” have such an impact on our world? Time itself became “Before Jesus” and “After Jesus.” Sounded pretty important to me.

Jews for Jesus

I wrote an article recently about how ‘Jews for Jesus’ are writing many articles on Kabbalah – and not in a negative way. Every time a person goes on their website, a chat box pops up, “Can I help you today?”

Here is the last piece I wrote about that:

Jews for Jesus Publishing Positive Articles on Kabbalah to Get Unsaved Jews Interested in Jesus

I went there again today. I want to keep up with what they are saying… more Kabbalah.

Meditation

I typed “Kabbalah” into the search box on JFJ, and many articles appeared. There was even an article about the type of meditation Kabbalists practice. It’s totally mystical/ Eastern meditation, not any different from Hindus!

Oy Vey!

When I came to know Yeshua as my Savior, it was a Christian couple who led me to Him. They didn’t use any gimmicks. You know what they used?

The Pure Word of God.

I had NEVER heard or read any words from the New Testament. And when this couple shared with me about Salvation and how sin separates men and women from God, and went on to tell me that Jesus covered and paid my sin debt so that I could be reconciled to God – well, let me tell you…….my heart was beating like I had run a marathon, and I felt so incredibly HAPPY!

I asked the husband what I needed to do to be reconciled to God. He talked about repentance and trusting Jesus and all that He did to reconcile me to His Father. He prayed with me, and I felt the heaviest burden lift off of me! I can hardly find the words to describe how I felt that night.

The Bible is Absolute Truth

I thought back to a time when my family tried a new church in the 90’s. We didn’t know that it was a “Seeker friendly” church. They had a band during worship, and they thought it would be fun to do silly things some Sundays. One of those days was “Funny hat day” – the members of the band wore crazy hats, and so did the pastor.

That same Sunday, some people came up to do a skit. There was not one mention of Jesus in this skit. One person played the “Soup Nazi.” Any of you who used to watch Seinfeld would remember that character. Every time the people in the skit said, “No soup for you!” the congregation went wild with laughter.

After church I spoke to an elder about the skit. I told him that I was a Christian Jew, and that I didn’t find that very funny during the service. You know what he said to me? He said that it was Christians like me that gave a bad name to Christianity! I could not even speak. We just left.

No Gimmicks, No Tricks – JUST JESUS

So, for the readers who want to share Yeshua with their Jewish friends, I have a few pointers.

  • First, get to know them.
  • Use Scripture from the Old Testament in the beginning.
  • Definitely show them Isaiah 53.
  • After your Jewish friend is amazed that you know OT – Share about Yeshua!

The Word of God is SO POWERFUL!

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12, KJV).

And, of course, PRAY for your Jewish friend. Pray that the Lord would bring other Christians into their life too! I have prayed that prayer for unsaved friends and have seen God answer it quickly!

How Can I Be Saved?

Shalom b’Yeshua
