Lights in an Ever-Darkening World :: By Jim Towers

My dear Christian friends, if we are indeed entering the very end times, we have a lot of work to do; and we are going to have to make up for lost time. We’ve been slack, complacent and all too often apathetic. The days of being a “Closet Christian” are over. Political correctness must be put out of our minds and vocabulary. We are called by God to be a peculiar people – a people with concern for our neighbors with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as the hurting and confused masses who are perishing by the millions every day.

By being “politically correct” closet Christians who are spooked by the godless masses, we who should know the truth of God’s word and the gospel of Jesus Christ have failed the world and God as well.

Those who have Christian degrees and doctorates should be ashamed of themselves for resting on their laurels of achievement. Without love for their fellow man, many have become tinkling bells. They fail to remember that God primarily used fishermen and other blue-collar workers to spread the Gospel – men who had a deep and abiding love for the word of God. They didn’t just know scripture, they lived it – or at least tried to according to the light within them.

I know that Paul (Saul), a “schooled person,” wrote most of the New Testament – but who better than he could assimilate scripture to better suit a cohesive testament? He knew it all. Yet it took an alarming fall from his startled horse and the voice of Christ emanating from a bright light to set him straight.

Remember too that he was blind for a time and wandered the deserts of Saudi Arabia for a season – to figure it all out. His mind, like a modern-day computer, must have been asking, Isn’t this what Gamaliel taught us; isn’t that what the prophets say about Messiah? finally putting two and two together for the first time. Paul’s book-learning days were over as he experienced the reality of God and saw and heard the Son of Man physically and firsthand.

Although Paul (Saul) was a Pharisee of the highest order, this religious scholar had had it all wrong. God doesn’t want religious scholars pontificating and spewing out book-taught facts about histrionics, genealogy and law. He wants obedient followers who will willingly do His bidding – which is to reach out to mankind with a message of love and hope – the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

All too often we are schooled and fooled by prosperity preachers, healing preachers with ridiculous hairdos, and other self-absorbed charlatans who care nothing about the state of their fellow man except for the money they can pilfer from the gullible among them.

End-time signs are swirling all around us in the form of Hurricanes, Typhoons and Cyclones across the globe. No matter what you may call them, they are capable of extreme devastation.

Nevertheless, we are asked to hang tough to the very end, sharing the light that is within us. We are called the salt of the earth; and if we have lost our savor, then we are discarded to be trampled underfoot, as it were.

Hurricane Florence hammered the Carolina’s, making its way inland, while other storms swirled out in the Atlantic and Pacific.

In the Philippines, the inhabitants are experiencing the aftermath of super typhoon Mangkhut. This hurricane is the strongest ever for that region, and last heard, it was headed for China. All the while, Japan is recovering from Typhoon Jebi – which was a real humdinger. If God is the controller of storms and rains, it seems He is angry with the whole of mankind, what with many different storms swirling in the atmosphere of our planet at the same time.

Could this activity portend something significant on the horizon? Does it mean that this chapter of mankind’s existence is nearly over, or is it just coincidental – as many believe?

Remember that the Bible clearly says, “As it was in the days of Noah (Noe) so shall the coming of the Son of Man be.” (If you remember right, this had to do with water and flooding.) With all the other overt Signs happening at once – could this be the beginning of the end of life as we’ve come to know it?

After all, we are also seeing and experiencing unprecedented turmoil throughout the world with governments toppling and multitudes of people trekking here and there, seeking shelter from this worldwide storm of confusion and anarchy.

Then there are the plagues brought on by unscrupulous homosexual men such as AIDS, and STDs – which constitute even more signs. Every day now, new plagues and diseases are being discovered and named. Many strains of common illnesses are beginning to show immunity to any and all treatments.

Earthquakes and volcanic activity have risen significantly over the past fifty years with no end in sight. I mean – what can anyone do to stop it from happening – except pray. These events are just a nudge of just what God is capable of – and we must all wake up, take heed and repent.

If sinners are indeed beginning to face God’s wrath for their wicked ways and for turning their backs on Him, we followers of Christ must stand firm in our convictions and calling. We must be light and salt in an ever-darkening world – a world of confusion, fear and dread.

First is the rapture, then the Tribulation period, and finally the Second Coming of Christ in His full Glory to set things straight.

We must reach out to others out of love and concern. We must quit fearing the “boogie man” Satan, whom Jesus has already defeated for those who love Him. We must also quit fearing men – who at present have nowhere to turn in their self-made hell. For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love” (1 John 4:18).
