This Little Light of Mine :: By Dale V. Nobbman

Christians need to serve God as lights in this world as we observe and experience the ever darkening days of increased sinfulness on earth as we approach the biblically prophesied time of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation period, and the Second-Coming of Jesus Christ.

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the true light of the world and we as followers of Christ need to reflect His light in this world in order to lead others to Christ.

[Jesus said,] “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12).

“For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth) trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord, and do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them” (Ephesians 5: 8-11).

“God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:5-7).

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lamp stand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).

Let us spread the “fruit of the light” (goodness, righteousness and truth) in our homes, in churches, our businesses, and in every public and government sector of society.

But Satan tries to veil the gospel of Jesus Christ and extinguish the fruit of the light in this world.

“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world (Satan) has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God”

(2 Corinthians 4:3-4).

That is why it is imperative for Christians to be lights for Christ in this current time of increasing darkness leading up to the end-time events as recorded in God’s Holy Bible.

One way to reflect the light of Jesus Christ in this world is to once again apply the simple affirmations we made to our God in our youth when we would sing the following song.

This Little Light of Mine

This little light of mine,

I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine,

I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Won’t let Satan blow it out.
I’m gonna let it shine.
Won’t let Satan blow it out.
I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Let it shine til Jesus comes.
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine ‘til Jesus comes.
I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Hide it under a bushel – NO!
I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel – NO!
I’m gonna let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Let it shine over the whole wide world,
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine over the whole wide world,
I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

One practical way for Christians to let our lights shine is to follow the example set forth in the following Scripture.

“Let all be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil, or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for your were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. For let him who means to love life and see good days refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile. And let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears attend to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (1 Peter 3:8-12).

Let us all shine our lights through word and deeds in this world until Jesus comes for each one of us (true believers in Jesus Christ) at the time of the Rapture, which according to biblical signs-of-the-times is an event rapidly approaching! That’s why it is important for Christians to share the good news of saving grace through Jesus Christ with unbelievers.
