Stormy Rich :: By Donna Wasson

It seems the only news produced in these last days consists of gloom and doom; full of international threats and saber rattling. I thought I’d lighten things up a bit and flex those sarcasm muscles I haven’t used in a while. It’s time to highlight the brain dead reasoning of some officials in our public schools. FOX 35 news, WOFL in Orlando, Florida, recently ran a story about bullying that involved an 18 year old girl who is a high school senior.

In my humble opinion, a fair description of an average American, 18 year old female these days would include a person who is probably self-absorbed, supremely concerned with her clothes, make-up and hair, as well as who is going out with whom. Or rather who is having sex with whom. After all, she’s the product of America’s Godless culture; what else do you expect?

This girl still lives with her parents and chafes at their rules as evidenced by occasional tantrums and slammed doors. She periodically screams at her siblings, rolls her eyes and grumbles about having to waste her precious time doing various household chores. Naturally, there’s the ever present cell phone, encased in a cover with fake white and pink ‘diamonds,’ which coordinates with the ridiculously long nails she has done every week.

If she’s not prowling the local mall, you can usually find her in her messy bedroom, yakking on the phone, popping gum and complaining to her BFF about how her hands hurt due to bilateral tendon damage caused by incessant texting.

Of course, there are exceptions to this average female senior. For instance, let’s take a look at a young lady by the name of Stormy Rich, an 18 year old high school senior who lives in Lake County, Florida, near Orlando. She was allowed to ride the middle school bus because the hours of her high school classes varied from the ordinary school schedule.

For months, Stormy witnessed a group of girls on the bus constantly harass and bully a mentally challenged girl, so she reported the incidents to school officials, as is protocol. Why did this 18 year old senior care enough to get involved and express concern that this child was being bullied? Well, apparently it was pretty brutal.

She states, “They would be so mean to her, telling her she couldn’t sit on certain spots on the bus. They were giving her food that they had put in their mouth. I actually had to tell her to spit it out because she didn’t understand.” And how, pray tell, did the administrators at the middle school handle this situation when it was brought to their attention? Oh my, what a surprise…they did NOTHING!

Stormy told Fox news, “When the school didn’t do anything, I told those girls ‘if the school didn’t do anything, I was going to do something.’” This busy high school senior decided to insert herself between the bullies and the victim, who didn’t even comprehend how mean the group was being. “Just because she doesn’t understand doesn’t mean that should be happening to her,” said Stormy.

When the Lake County school system heard of her verbal ‘threat’ to the bullies, what do you think the school officials did? Suspend the bullies? Move the mentally challenged child to another bus? Notify the child’s parents their daughter was being harassed on the bus, to and from school every day?

Come now, think! After all, this is the politically correct public school system. What would their knee jerk reaction be to Stormy Rich’s defense of the mentally challenged girl? You guessed it…the incompetent, lazy, we-can’t-utilize-our-common-sense-because-we-have-none administrators, threw Stormy off the bus! A Lake County School spokesman explained that they removed Rich from the bus because SHE displayed bullying behavior and “two wrongs don’t make a right.”

Yeah, well evidently a room full of Lake County School officials doesn’t equal the intelligence of a doorknob either. What was their reasoning? The bullied child never complained about being bullied! Stormy stated, “What kid that’s being bullied goes and tells somebody? They want to have friends!”

So, after going to the trouble to follow school protocol and report the problem, this exceptional high school senior faces repercussions because she verbally defended the victim herself. Why did she feel she needed to do this? Oh, that’s easy. It’s because the school staff wouldn’t put down their lukewarm coffee and stale donuts long enough to get off their fat butts and address the bullying behavior of this group of snot nosed middle school jerkettes.

Stormy finished the interview by saying, “I never want this to happen to anybody. I mean, I know we can’t save the world, but at least we could try to help the people who go to Umatilla (middle school).”

Stormy Rich, you are my hero of the month, girl! You are an ambitious, big hearted young lady who is as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside. Graduate from that high school, get the heck out of that small minded little town and do something extraordinary with your life. You’ve got what it takes to reach the stars!

As for the Lake County school administrators involved in this shameful incident, your lackadaisical attitude toward the students entrusted into your care is absolutely appalling. I’ve yet to see a follow up report describing your punishment of those bullying, without-a-doubt-future-knocked-up homecoming queens. If you intend to remain completely apathetic about fulfilling your responsibilities to the students, do the kids and parents a favor and give your jobs to those better qualified who need the work!
