In Matthew 24, Jesus’ disciples asked about his 2nd Coming and the end of the age. “Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows'” (Matthew 24:4-8).
Jesus was referring to the time immediately preceding the 7-year Tribulation, otherwise known as the Day of the Lord or Jacob’s Trouble. Matthew 24:9-14 describes the first part of the Tribulation, and verses 15-25 refer to the second part, known as the Great Tribulation. The ‘abomination of desolation’ referred to in Matthew 15 is first mentioned in Daniel 9:27: “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (7 years); but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.”
Daniel was the first prophet/witness to declare the prophecy of the end times 7-year Tribulation. Jesus was the next prophet/witness to discuss this end-times prophecy, as mentioned in Matthew 24 and elsewhere in the Gospels. However, Jesus never mentioned it lasting for 7 years. John, the apostle of Jesus, was the third witness to verify the prophecy of the end-time Tribulation. He wrote about it in great detail in the last book of the Bible, Revelation.
John mentions certain events of the Tribulation lasting for 42 months (Revelation 11:2 and 13:5) and others for 1,260 days (Revelation 11:3 and 12:6). Of course, these are just two different ways of describing 3.5 years. Nowhere does he mention the Tribulation lasting for 7 years. However, it is assumed that Revelation 6:2 is referring to the same person as Daniel 9 does. He is the Antichrist. Thus, the conqueror of Revelation 6:2 will begin the Tribulation when he confirms the covenant with the many (Israel and others) as described in Daniel 9:27, and it will last for 7 years.
According to God’s law, “by the mouth of two or three witnesses, a matter shall be established” (Deuteronomy 19:15). The matter of the Tribulation is established by the three witnesses: Daniel, Jesus, and John.
In Revelation 5, John has a vision of God, the Father, sitting on His throne with a scroll in His hand. The scroll was sealed with 7 seals. No one in heaven or earth was found to be worthy enough to open the scroll, or to look at it, until Jesus Christ prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its 7 seals. Revelation 6 describes the first 6 seal judgments of God upon the earth during the beginning of the 7-year Tribulation. This article will focus on this chapter, as most astute Bible eschatologists believe mankind is nearing this time due to our fullness of sin. When sin reaches its peak, God’s judgment is sure to follow.
Current headlines (for the last week) that we have gathered from Rapture Ready News confirm this belief, in my opinion. Take a look for yourself and see if you don’t agree that these headlines are precursors (birth pains/beginning of sorrows) to the seal judgments of God that will begin the dreaded Day of the Lord. If this is true, we know our time is short and the Tribulation is close. The good news for Christians, however, is the Rapture is even closer.
