The Modern Churchill
Each week, I am tempted to write that the world is crazier than it was a week ago. It’s like a vise is tightening around our heads. More than two genders. Men can have babies. Good is evil, evil is good.
That last one is particularly intense right now. Another way to look at it is 2 Timothy 3.
In the last very few years, I have personally been shocked at personal situations that would never exist 40 years ago. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I do not recognize anything from that period today.
Listen to NPR for 30 minutes. Literally, every news story they produce is a lie. The “news” is 100 percent anti-Trump. It isn’t even logical. Personal evil has overtaken some people. Many people.
And for the last 30 years, Israel’s lion, Benjamin Netanyahu, has been subjected to horrifying vilification.
In a podcast this week, Jonathan Tobin chatted with the great Ruthie Blum about Israel’s election on Tuesday. The votes are still being counted and will probably be finished by the time you read this. Whatever happens, there is a measure of chaos to the process. Netanyahu’s Likud Party has the most seats, but shockingly, Arab parties (that hate Israel!) have 19 seats. This is unconscionable. More on this in a minute.
Blum put her finger on the pulse of the problem.
“Most of them [Arab parties] identify with the Palestinians more than they do with their own country, Israel.”
There you have it.
Now, many have asked me why Israel allows Arab parties in the Knesset. These parties do not denounce Hamas, so you know where their loyalties lie.
Traditionally, Jews since at least the Middle Ages have adopted a strategy of being nice to their enemies. Psychologically, the harassment and existential threats are met with a desire to fit in somewhat or accommodate evil. That’s what it comes down to. If we had been hunted and murdered like they have been for thousands of years, maybe we’d be that way, too.
I remember in 2002 I was in Jerusalem, having breakfast at the American Colony Hotel with an Israeli businessman. I was somewhat naïve then, not quite thinking through the fact that I was staying at a hotel in East Jerusalem—the Arab section.
(Btw, I increasingly do not use the term “Palestinian,” since that label is a political construct from the post-Six-Day-War period. If you go back and look through media from those days, you will notice that the Arabs in Israel were called what they were, Arabs. The “Palestinian” designation was an invention of Yasser Arafat and the PLO, and his Soviet handlers. Creating a distinct, “Palestinian Arab” history was critical in gaining sympathy from ignorant Westerners—useful idiots—that did not really understand what was going on.)
A great very recent example was the French business owner that stood in shock as Arab invaders trashed stores, including hers, in Paris. She was incredulous. She shouted at them that she voted for policies that support them. That reality makes no difference to these demon hordes, whose ultimate aim is to kill the infidel. This is what the Koran commands them to do.
Anyway, as we were finishing breakfast, we heard that a homicide-bomber had detonated on a bus in the western part of the city. Several children were murdered. I ran outside and hailed a cab. Three Arab drivers argued over who would get the fare. They had no reaction to the murders we’d just learned about.
Arriving at the scene, I could see bodies hanging out the blown-out windows. A crowd formed. I looked to my left at a man and asked him, “Why do you allow them (Arabs) on your buses?” He looked at me like I had three heads. “Because to ban them would be discrimination!”
Here you had an Arab that murdered children he was looking at, at the moment of detonation, and an Israeli bystander was in truth more concerned with the devil’s rights than the kids he’d just murdered.
The hatred now being directed at Israel and Jews worldwide is a tsunami. I never expected to see it, honestly.
Into this epic sandstorm of hatred Benjamin Netanyahu stands, immovable. He takes the blows for his people.
I have a framed photo of Winston Churchill, the image is from 1940. England then was at the height of its peril. The Nazis were sending waves of planes at London. Hitler was planning Operation Sea Lion, the impending invasion of England. In the photo, Churchill is standing alone, watching an American bomber that we had loaned them. The plane was heading to bomb German refineries, taking the fight to the enemy. It is a powerful image and reminds me of Netanyahu.
Whatever the outcome of Israel’s elections, I believe he will remain in power. I think he is in it for life. At 77, he looks great and how he holds up under the pressure is anybody’s guess. The Lord of course, right?
