Reality Check :: By Ron Ferguson

A number of writers, and that includes me, on RR, do point out the failings of our political figures, and they do come in for criticism. Generally, that is deserved, for these men and women are elected to “do the right thing,” but in our eyes, they have failed.

Too many of them these days, especially from the socialist left, entered the government and parliament so that they could further their own political agendas and push some matter of immoral propaganda. I have seen too much of that. One particular woman in my own State deliberately entered parliament for one express purpose only. That purpose was to have legislated abortion up to the day of birth, and she achieved that. Now she is out of parliament.

Do you ever feel manipulated by our politicians? They do it all the time. We are not going to be able to prevent it, and it will get worse. 2 Timothy 3:12-13, “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. Evil men and imposters will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” Politics is filled with evil men/women and imposters. And yes, they are proceeding from bad to worse. I think all of us are astounded at the progress evil has made in the past two years. The world is fast rushing to the top of the cliff face and the drop-off to destruction.

The verse tells us evil men are deceiving. They deceive their comrades, and they most certainly deceive the public. The interesting point is “and being deceived.” Who are deceiving the evil men in verse 13? The deceivers are being deceived. Well, I am not sure if we can properly answer that, but I will suggest two parties who would be deceiving the deceived. The first is Satan. He deceived Eve, and he is the great deceiver behind every kind of evil and deception. The second party I think could be those of influence such as university staff, spokespersons, advisors, and news reporters. Biden has his political advisors, and they are deceived people, who in turn deceive Biden, who then deceives the American people. It is the same in nearly every country.

Because of the wickedness of political leaders and governments, we as Christians tend to level criticism at them for the laws they enact and the stupidity they go on with. This is where I am now coming to the title of this article – Reality Check:

Yesterday, the law was passed in Queensland to offer what is called “voluntary assisted dying.” It will be available for anyone who wants it if a doctor says they may not have more than a year to live. This Queensland very socialist government also introduced abortion this year up to the day of birth.

I have been very critical of the government members for doing all that and call them “the government of death.” However, there is another side of this coin. The government claims it had been doing community surveys on those issues, and apparently, over 60% of people wanted those laws.

Where does this leave us? It suggests to me that we have a parallel with the appointment of King Saul. We can be critical of all Saul’s failures and blame him for all the bad things in Israel, and certainly, he will be accountable for all this. However, if we trace this through, we find that Saul was not entirely to blame.

1 Samuel 8:5-7, “And they [Israelites] said to him [Samuel], ‘Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations.’ But the thing was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, ‘Give us a king to judge us,’ and Samuel prayed to the LORD. The LORD said to Samuel, ‘Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.'”

The nation wanted conformity so it could be like other nations, but it was not God’s will, so the matter upset Samuel. God spoke to Samuel to provide him with the facts the people had to be told. Samuel then related all that to the people. 1 Samuel 8:10, “So Samuel spoke all the words of the LORD to the people who had asked of him a king.”

Even after all that, what was the people’s response? Here it is: 1 Samuel 8:19-22, “Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, ‘No, but there shall be a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.’ Now after Samuel had heard all the words of the people, he repeated them in the LORD’s hearing, and the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Listen to their voice, and appoint them a king.’ So Samuel said to the men of Israel, ‘Go every man to his city.'”

What was God allowing to happen in the nation? Well, rejection of God’s laws and expressed will meant that God was going to let them go their own way. “God gave them over.” They got Saul.

We criticize our leaders (justly), but they are only implementing what the people want. Our nations are so far away from God that it is the people who are wicked, and wicked politicians are carrying out the wicked will of a wicked people, which increases wickedness. It is society that is evil to the core. Politicians and the intelligentsia, etc., are products of society.

Wicked politicians can implement evil laws that don’t reflect society’s view. The Premier of Victoria is about to bring into parliament a law where all religious (Christian) schools will not be able to hire or fire staff according to their choice. It will carry immense penalties. This move is from the pit of hell. It means that if atheists and homosexuals apply for a teacher or staff position and the school rejects that request, they will be hurled up before all sorts of vilification and equal opportunity Boards and then shut down or fined enormous amounts. If a member of a Christian school staff started teaching atheism or homosexuality, the school is powerless to get rid of him. All of it is evil. The Premier is one of the most wicked men in Australia. It is a personal vendetta against Christians.

Another travesty of justice has been passed in Victoria. I quote – “Gay conversion therapy banned in Victoria after marathon debate.” As I understand it, if a homosexual wants help in combatting this sin, then he will be denied help to do so. It is already on the books that any Christian who might assist in helping such a person is in big trouble.

It was a mystery for me why such evil men are in power and have such influence. I blamed the working of the mystery of iniquity/lawlessness for that, and Satan’s growing influence. Over the past few years, I have come to see that the crater of the immoral volcano spilling out in society is actually the people wanting to bathe in the sea of iniquity. I saw the BLM riots of evil and looting in both the US and Australia. I saw the rioting when Trump was elected President. I have come to see it again in California this week where evil people want an evil man to reign over them.

In closing, when we criticize our elected leaders, remember that they are, in large, representative of the people who elected them. Also, they are at the seductive bidding of public servants and officials, and so-called “experts” who manipulate them.

Isaiah 1:4-6, “Alas, sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, sons who act corruptly! They have abandoned the LORD; they have despised the Holy One of Israel; they have turned away from Him. Where will you be stricken again as you continue in your rebellion? The whole head is sick and the whole heart is faint. From the sole of the foot even to the head there is nothing sound in it, only bruises, welts, and raw wounds, not pressed out or bandaged, nor softened with oil.”
