The Second Greatest Scripture:: by Clay Smith

All of God’s Word is amazing, authoritative, divinely inspired, and great just like His Name. Men physically penned the words of Hebrew Scripture long ago as they were given by the Holy Spirit. The 66 books in the canon of Scripture are divided into two sections: Old Testament and New Testament.

God has placed the order of the books in the Holy Bible exactly the way He wanted them, and every word, jot, and tittle is precisely placed. “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no way pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18). A jot is the smallest Hebrew letter, and a tittle is the point or extremity which distinguishes certain Hebrew letters from others. You get the point! God wrote the Book – don’t mess with it. I can’t understand everything in His Word, but I believe every Word in the Book.

I’m not writing this to give you a history lesson on the layout of the Bible but to give you “theologically” what I believe are the two most powerful scriptures that are life-changing in God’s Word. This is my humble opinion.

We as believers, as well as many unbelievers, recognize the well-known passage from John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God, in his mercy and grace, desires that every person born that he has created would believe in his only begotten Son and inherit eternal life with him. Each person has his or her free will to choose. God’s message goes out to the whole world, not just any certain group or class of people.

But the two specific scriptures I’m speaking of are Luke 24:6 and John 14:6. One is speaking of Jesus, the Son of God, and the other is Jesus himself stating that eternal life only comes through believing in him and no other person or entity.

Luke 24:6 “He is not here, but is risen:” This is the scripture that contains the greatest seven words spoken (from the angel) to the women who went to the tomb early in the morning. Jesus was not there, but had risen from the dead. He had done just as he had said he would to the apostles. The greatest event in human history ever recorded had just taken place, and Jesus did that for every person that would believe in him. He alone went to the Cross and suffered, even unto death, totally what was prophesized in the Old Covenant scriptures that would take place.

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Jesus is talking to his apostles here, specifically Thomas, explaining that there are mansions in his Father’s house that are being prepared for believers. But Jesus is stating here that He is the only way, the only truth, and the only life who can providently fulfill this promise. No other person can or ever will be able to fulfill that. Jesus Christ is the person literally that can make this happen.

In this statement hangs your eternal life and destiny whether you believe this or not. If a person chooses not to believe in the only Son of God, Jesus or Yeshua, he or she will spend eternity away from the presence of God. There is no other god or gods that can do this. Life, as they say, “hangs in the balance,” and it’s that person’s choice to decide which way the scales tilt, up or down. You decide where you want to place yourself. Up to Glory or down to everlasting torment according to the Scripture.

The first scripture shows the “one who rose from the dead.” Jesus conquered death, hell, and the grave for us who would believe this. The second scripture shows the person that rose from the dead had and has the authority and power to state, I am the only One who can give you eternal life; it’s up to each individual person to make that choice.

I hope you read these Scriptures and make that wise decision to choose Christ now as your personal Lord and Saviour of your life. Believe in the very words that Christ spoke himself. Don’t delay. Jesus is coming back for his Bride, the Church, any second, minute, hour, or day now. This is the Rapture that we all mention here at Rapture Ready. We don’t know the “day or hour” when Jesus is coming, but all the converging signs point to Christ’s soon return.

MARANATHA: Come Lord Jesus!

All Scripture is from the King James.
