The Greatest Gift of All :: By Holly Spate

Something so special resonates this time of year. It’s as though hearts get a little pick me up, and joy becomes a bit more contagious as we all sprint toward Christmas day.

Yes, it truly is a special time. The beauty of the season can both rejuvenate the spirit and open the heart to miracles. And for those who are keeping their hearts open, the season can bring to them the greatest miracle of all…the gift of the Savior. Amazing!

Luke 2:10-12 describes this astounding and beautiful miracle, “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’”

Isn’t it just like our Heavenly Father, the Creator of all, to give the most precious gift of all? Isn’t it just like Him to surprise us with an irreplaceable gift beyond our wildest imagination…a gift that would allow us to have a relationship, partake of all things good, and forever be with Him?

Imagine…our loving, merciful Father reached down from the heavens and touched the earth with His most dear and precious gift, His one and only Son.

The very One sent to  be the bridge for all mankind. The One who would humbly give His life so all could have eternal life.

The One who would heal the sick, speak truth into hearts, and lead the way. He would come as a shining light piercing through all darkness, breathing fresh hope into hearts. The Christ child, sent to bring the eternal gift of salvation to all who accept and believe.

No greater gift has ever been given to our world. No greater miracle has ever come. No greater love has ever been bestowed. Humbly wrapped in swaddling clothes, He came. From the throne to the manger, He came. He knew what awaited Him, but His love propelled Him forward. And as the star shone bright that night in Bethlehem, with angelic voices singing, the Savior of the world stepped out of heaven to make a home in our hearts.

What a beautiful display of God’s concern and of His unconditional love for His creation. The sacrifice Christ made and the gift God gave should fill every believer’s heart with immense joy, gratitude, and praise—not just during the Christmas season, but every day of every year. It should stir within a strong desire to spread the Good News so others can be transformed by this amazing, life-changing gift… a gift we never deserved and could never earn.

Think about this for a minute…

When God sent His Son—over 2,000 years ago, YOUR name was on His heart. That night was as much your night as it was for those who were present to witness it. That very night He came for YOU!

He sent Christ for YOU!

If you were the only one He would have still come. He lifted YOU up and saved YOU! He reached down to earth so YOU could reach up to the heavens. He paid the price and paved the way so YOU could partake of all He’s prepared.

He performed a miracle and made a mark that would forever change YOUR eternity. He brought YOU salvation, hope, truth, peace, love and joy. No gift under any Christmas tree will ever begin to compare to the gift you received when you said, “Yes!” to Him.

As you celebrate this Christmas, take time to pause and reflect on the awesome revelation that you hold in your heart—the greatest gift you could ever receive. Let’s allow our hearts to rejoice in this truth and celebrate all we’ve been given because of God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice.

This gift is yours, it’s mine…it’s given to anyone whose heart is open and with childlike faith chooses to simply believe. This gift is life-changing and absolutely, undeniably miraculous! It is truly the greatest gift of all.

Merry CHRISTmas!
