All That Jez :: by Desiree Effner

I enjoy keeping up with the latest geology and physics news. The accepted orthodoxies in these sciences are currently in a quandary. Their high priests are stymied. Newer, “outside-the-box” thinkers are coming up with paradigms that actually make better sense. (They do a better job of anticipating the difficulties our old earth is being hammered with, stupefying the set-in-their-ways guys.)

As I peruse these earth-shaking issues, I don’t feel any compulsion to match the old earth’s behavior or the sun, moon and stars—with Scripture.

Nor do I have the intellect and information to derive my own prognosis, backed up by Scripture, relating to the political events rocking the globe. I get more insight reading literature and history written 100 or 1000 years ago.

One modern development that disturbs me is this: Women have taken over; their men having abrogated their responsibilities. Frequently, men readily give way to these ardent, know-it-all babes. Sometimes, it works out okay.

Some good strong women are needed; those who are not flaming the fires of burning a man at the stake. I compare one lifelong friend of mine to the Old Testament judge, Deborah. Boy! Is she on the front lines. She’s an irreplaceable soldier of Christ. She moves mountains as God guides her every step.

Then there are the Jezebels. Ms. Jezebel, of ancient Israel was one of the most religious women in the Bible. Her daddy was king of Zidon, who was also his people’s chief priest in their national worship of Baal. Jez devoted her life to integrating this false god and its idolatrous practices and practitioners into the fabric of Israel society. No problem; at that time, Israel was enthusiastic to accommodate Baal and his entourage.

But every dog must have its day and every Jezebel needs an Ahab. He’s the guy (in her case, her husband) who essentially bankrolls the agenda. Ahab gave attendance to the God of Israel at times, but mostly out of superstition. He knew enough to cover all his bases and hedge all his bets.

From year to year he would switch sides, depending on what the little lady craved, or who he was up against in battle, or what that dreaded prophet, Elijah, was doing to interfere with matters. Ahab had the power. But so did Baal and his bureaucrats. Jezebel knew how to play them all.

Oh, the dogs did have their day. Elijah had made a prophecy about her. It came to pass. The soldiers of Ahab’s successor, Jehu, tossed her to her death.

“Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, Thisisthe word of theLord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel” (2 Kings 9:36).

My husband and I once visited a small evangelical church, near our home. The pastor’s first name was Rock (as in strong as steel). Yet, his wife ran the show. Her “announcements” covered more territory than his sermon. She could not be compared to the Jezebel of Ahab’s or Revelation’s Thyatira church. She certainly did not promote idolatry or immorality. Still, she drove her husband’s congregation. (Mostly to another church.)

How many Jezebels currently usurp their husband’s authority and calling? Or usurp other men they want to control who are thought of as friends or business associates? We frequently see 2 Timothy 3:1-5 quoted. But not the next two verses. They say:

“For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Ladies, Lattelexies (for the preferred beverage and auto), sisters, what won’t you stop at? You convene coffee klatches that pass for business meetings, just because you’re wearing a suit and carrying a laptop. You married a guy because he was strong and capable. Until he suddenly couldn’t change a light bulb without your direction.

Or you chose someone you can control in a “business” or “ministry” setting until his discernment becomes pathetically inept and he succumbs to your wretched manipulations You may as well put a collar around his neck with a short leash attached. You even buy him off when you can find a way to make it look oh so, thoughtful. He gives you a long leash to help hang himself.

When you don’t care for or even acknowledge the holiness of God and His divine order, anything goes. You’ll save the day! You go, girl!

Jezebels lead society astray, leaving no hope of return. They eagerly max out their credits to attain every earthly and falsely spiritual delight. They also manage to get the last word in. To Jeremiah’s recriminations, their response was:

“And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?” (Jeremiah 44:19).

The end result of this arrogant feminism is the end of a civilization. It’s happened before. Overbearing, demanding women. Society chooses to depopulate through abortion, or by a woman remaining childless. A result of that is increased infertility rates. We have horrid perversions between the sexes. These are symptoms of a civilization that is dying. They snowball and speed up the process of decay.

The worst Jezebels are the those in the Christian church who bully their way into prominence. The foundations have fallen to ruins. The hordes are within the gates. You and your car will soon be running on empty.
