Seek Ye the Grandeur of God! :: by Joe Southerland

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation”(Hebrews 9:27-28).

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world” (Psalm 19:1b-4a).

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

In our modern world it is getting tougher for Man to experience creation’s grandeur, just when Man needs most to reconnect with God.

The Heavens Shrouding Out…

Until recent times, down through the ages when our forefathers walked outside, they could gaze upon the heavens in all their glory. Above them was the ribbon of stars so thick they formed a ribbon of milky light from one end of the horizon to the other.

Countless other stars filled the remaining vastness of the night sky, which could be connected in their minds to form shapes and if tracked could help them understand the passing of the seasons and times. Our Lord God’s creation was on full display, always filling the nights of mankind.

Now many rarely, if ever, have experienced the grandeur of the Milky Way spread across the starry night sky because the ambient light levels Man generates have shrouded the grandeur of God’s creation—which David sang so beautifully about in Psalm 19 cited above.

Far, far worse, now when people do catch a rare glimpse of the untainted night sky David experienced, most who do behold it thoughts have already been polluted. They have been filled with the falsehood that some godless event called the “big bang” created something from nothing, and thus began the evolutionary path where Man is but a collection of fortuitous random collision of basic molecular elements. (A creature formed from cold, nothingness of the great lifeless cosmic void (what a depressing concept to build your life upon.)

So sadly, Man’s innovations have inadvertently and Man’s speculation have intentionally blinded Man to God’s creation in the heavens above the earth. Equally sadly, the same statements can be said of Man’s perception of earth and the life created upon it.

…And the Earth Crowded Out

In less than a century and one half the modern, industrialized nation’s populations have shifted from 95 percent rural/5 percent urban to 5 percent rural/95 percent urban. So now the vast majority in these nation’s people exist in an environment almost exclusively created by the hand of man. Think about that, many never see any life but human beings and things but those created by human hands.

When there are occasional trees or human-manicured green spaces, nature is dwarfed by the structures of Man; no space remains in these great hubs of human activity that speaks of the grandeur of God’s Creation. God’s creation has been crowded out. Sadly, if everything people know and experience is man-created, it becomes harder to perceive that God created anything, let alone Man.

Losing Our Connection to Sustaining Life

Running parallel to this lose of connection with God’s grandeur He displays in the heavens and the earth, is mankind loss of contact to the very life which sustains him, the plants and animals God created for us.

The great shift from an agrarian to an industrial society also distanced Man’s relationship with life, and his awareness that our lives depend upon harvesting other life. Ask people where food comes from, and the answer will likely be a grocery store; beyond that most people have become ignorant of how life is truly sustained. They think if they have money in their pocket they can sustain life. Not true.

Life is only sustained from a delicately balanced combination of sunshine, rain and earth; all required to bring forth a continuing flow of life to harvest from the land.

For the most part Man takes for granted the fragile balance of nature, because he is now so far removed from the plants and animals which sustain his life. Our forefathers were very aware of this delicate balance and that is why they thanked God before every meal they ate, because they knew God alone sustained life through his creation.

A Glimpse at God’s Creation of Life Sustaining Life

Please allow me to share a very small, miraculous sliver of God’s creation that I have been blessed to routinely experience during calving season.

At the end of nine and one half months of grazing on God’s blessed, rich pasture grasses a cow reached her calving time. Hours of strenuous labor have brought forth a new calf’s hoofs and nose breeching the cow’s birth canal; with one great, final push the new calf plops to the ground in a steaming mass.

With ten minutes of gentile licking from its mother, the newborn has now pumped enough blood into its legs to attempt to stand. It struggles to get those gangly, shaking legs underneath it and falls. Again, and again it tries to rise and falls; but continues its determined attempts to gain control of those four spindly legs, all the while the cow gently hums to her calf, providing encouraging licks.

Nearby we quietly root on each wobbly effort, and repeated “almost made it that time” attempts. After much anticipation, finally the calf makes it up. We cheer! And occasionally I shed a man-tear or two. Life is renewing life. It is beautiful, emotional moment. Now on to the calf’s next equally entertaining challenge, finding mother’s utters.

It is all over with in less than thirty minutes. It never gets old, no matter how many times I see it. A miraculous yet very, small slice of God’s creation. What is even more miraculous is when the mother is a young heifer that only two years before went through the exact same ordeal as the calf. All preprogrammed. All perfect. All the work of God.

When everything goes perfectly in this chain, life renews. The grass must have nutrient rich soil, sufficient rain, and warmth from the sun to grow, and if not the cow will suffer as well as her unborn calf. If the conditions, are poor praying to the Lord is the only tool you have to deal with it. Accordingly, farmers and ranchers talk a lot with the Lord.

Evolutionary Balderdash!

Now this short drama of life also allows me to provide comment on “the something came from nothing” evolutionist naturalists crowd.

In this small scene I depicted of life renewing life on earth, it is truly amazing to consider the finite, intricate biological and instinctual programming that has to be precisely placed within the DNA coding to make this one thirty minute snippet of life on earth possible. Once can truly sense the awesome nature of God on wondrous display!

In contrast, naturalists would have me believe a cow’s DNA evolved over millions of years through millions of favorable DNA trial and error sequencing (mutations) that would have brought about this one point of perfection in nature. Then they would have me extrapolate this complex process for all the organisms on the earth, over every phase of their lives.

The number of favorable “random” DNA mutations that would have had to have occurred would be in the trillions, upon trillion, upon trillions to bring about all the varied sustaining life we have on earth. It would be far more probable to go to Vegas and win every low-odds bet you make for millions of years, and never lose.

My experience in breeding cattle is that favorable mutations are rare, in fact none has ever happened as far as I can tell. On the other hand unfavorable outcomes in genetics (a calf born blind, or malformed) is far more common and heartbreaking.

So to the naturalist/evolutionist I say, balderdash! Evolution is simply Man trying to explain the world in the absence of the Creator; and it is just a preposterous speculation. Yes indeed there is micro-evolution (breeding for specialization within species, like dogs/cats) which is biblical, but there is no solid evidence of macro-evolution (one species changing to another species over time). And do not tell me the former, is evidence of the later.

This is the Lord God’s creation!

Seek Ye the Grandeur of Our God – Reconnect with God’s Creation!

Please get out and experience the grandeur of God in the heavens, and earth, and the life He sustains us with. In part, we were created by God to do just that. When is the last time you lost yourself in the Milky Way or were awe struck by the clouds hugging a blue mountain? Have you felt the soft plushness of a young calf? God is so good to us. Blessed be His name forever, and ever. Amen!

Observing the heavens, the earth, and all life in it, some correctly see God’s nature, others see nature is a god, yet others confirm their godless nature. Know that God is ever watching and fully aware of the arrogant insult of the naturalists, and He will deal with them in His time.

In my commentary on God’s final message of Revelation 14:6-7, the very last piece of God’s message before His culminating wrath, God calls for God-denying mankind to worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters (Rev. 14:7). Those who fail to heed His call, shall know His wrath. [1]

God bless.
