Pogo was Right :: by Ed Merrick

The world famous philosopher, Pogo, who used to dispense his satirical wisdom on the pages of our comic strips (1948-1975), was credited with saying, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” There was also a book by the same title.

Old Pogo didn’t know the half of it.What would he think if he were around today?Who are the enemies of the United States and what plans do they have for us and why would they want to destroy us in the first place?

North Korea has the atomic bomb and is working on ICBMs that will reach the U. S.and they boast about it openly.Iran is close to having the bomb (and may already have it), and they, too, want to destroy the U. S. (the great Satan). Russia is rebuilding her empire and flipping her nose at our threats of “drastic consequences” if they go too far in Ukraine.

Terrorists slip across our porous borders all the time and terror cells are working in our own country and other places on plans to cripple or destroy us.There are three main reasons for this. First, we are/were a Christian nation.Second, we are a democracy and we believe in freedom. And third, we support Israel. These are all real threats, but are they the greatest threat to our once great country?

The case could be made that the greatest threat to our continued existence is the threat from within; perhaps not as tangible as the aforementioned threats from without — but far more insidious, like invisible cancers working away inside—like cancers in every organ of the body. Here are just a few to just matters to consider. (And each one could have several subtitles under them):

· The almost total moral collapse of our society.

· Political corruption from top to bottom.

· The economic bubble built on a house of cards that may collapse at any time.

· The 56 million babies aborted since Roe v Wade in 1973.

· The sexual revolution.

· The rampant homosexual revolution including gay marriage.

· The selective enforcement of laws by state and federal officials.

· The war on Christianity by our government officials and the courts.

· War on the family.

· The rampant drug culture.

· The watering down of Christian doctrine and churches not preaching the whole council of God.

· Our double-dealing with Israel.” (In trying to get them to trade covenant land for peace which puts us directly under the gun of Genesis 12:3.)

And perhaps the greatest threat to our country—to our way of life—is our own government. A government that seems bent on destroying our constitutional way of government founded on Judeo-Christian values and replacing it with a “new world order” based on socialism. And, they are well on their way to doing just that. But, didn’t BHO campaign on a promise to totally transform America?

If this sounds like 2 Tim. 3:1-8 and Rom. 11:8-32, it should. It even says in Rom. 1:24, 26 that God gave them up to their uncleanness and vile affections. We are surely living in the times described here—the last days.Has God given up on our nation?Pray that He has not. Pray for an awakening of God’s people.

Yes, Pogo, you were right then and even more so today. We are living in the most exciting time in history—the fulfillment of prophecies, which the ancient prophets could only imagine.Did God put us here to be spectators of all this?Probably not.We need to be spreading the Good News at every opportunity. It may be as Mordecai told Esther:

“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

You may not save a nation or a people single-handedly, but you may save one person and you may be part of a movement that would save our nation from destruction.
