An Open Letter to All “Christians” :: by Jim Torres

It’s Sunday afternoon and Christian couch potatoes all across the U.S. are ensconced on the couch, with a snack in hand watching some sporting event on television. Meanwhile, Jehovah’s Witnesses are out knocking on doors, trying to earn their way into heaven with their erroneous doctrine and leading many people astray.

Radical Muslims are also trying to enter heaven by killing Christians and Jews, and we hardly take notice. After all, that is taking place in another part of the world and we think it could never happen to us. It can and just might.

It’s not enough to know Christian doctrine and be a church leader; it’s what you do with what you know that matters (faith without works is dead). Many of us are knowledgeable about biblical things, but we only learn as we once did in elementary school, just to receive accolades and status in class. We take pride in knowing things and even in being able to teach or correct others but it’s high time to get real – time is running out.

Where is our zeal for the things of God?

We so-called Christians, of all people, should care about the state of our nation and its inhabitants, especially during these perilous times. But I’m afraid we’ve bought into the prevailing political correctness state of mind and are asleep at the wheel. We care more about our golf scores and how our favorite football team is doing than what’s happening to our country and fellow man.

We even shout and carry on about the football plays as though we had anything to do with them.  Our president even congratulates a big burly football player for kissing his sex mate on television. How shameful is that?  These are the same people who would turn our once great country into a virtual Sodom and Gomorrah. Have we become lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God?

Our country is becoming, if we aren’t already, a playground for pedophiles, druggies, homosexuals, pornographers and thugs.  Our movies have no limits to what they will show or say. There are no redeeming messages to be found in them except to say that crime is exciting and every man can do as he pleases. Murder and mayhem prevail.

Christian movies usually have something to do with football. Apostasy is on the rise. Chrislam is the newest word for religious open mindedness, yet Jesus Christ said, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life and no man comes to the Father but by ME. Insofar as the prosperity gospel is concerned, Jesus said, take up your cross and follow me.  He never promised us a rose garden; in fact He said we would suffer persecution for His name’s sake (probably from lukewarm brethren)!

The evil things we encounter today cry out for concrete answers. People’s lives and very souls are at risk.  We live in perilous times and it’s ourprivilege to be able to share the unadulterated Word of God which encompasses the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Like it or not we are living in the final days before judgment, and the Christian community is in denial.  But surprisingly the world at large is open to hearing the Word of God. Everyone is searching for answers to what’s going on in the world today and for a route of escape. What is it going to take for us to wake up and reach out to family and friends with the gospel of Jesus Christ?  Could it be that God is beginning to shake us awake before the rapture to do just that?  My hope is that there will be one last revival before that awesome event takes place.

This is not the time to be wimps, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”  Let us take a stand for our faith in Christ Jesus; our only hope and the only hope for America and mankind.

I’ve been on the evangelical front line for over forty years and have had maybe two rejections of the gospel message out of my many presentations. Today, more than ever before, people are open for some good news. Whether I die or am taken away in the rapture, I expect the Lord to say, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”  Don’t you?

Today, just shortly before 9/11, and when radical Muslim’s celebrate their devastating attack on the United States, there is a rash of speculation by people who should know — that these radicals may just strike on that fateful day to terrorize us once again.

This might be a good time to have a “block party” for the neighbors to explain what’s happening and why, (prophetic Scripture is being played out even as we speak). It’s also a good time to get to know them more intimately and to explain the gospel to them.

I would close with a word of prayer for America and then end it all with a pledge of allegiance to the flag. What a better way of sharing the Christian faith and getting to know your neighbor?  They are going to need us and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the perilous days ahead.
