Creation groaning: In the Western US, there are wildfires across over 1 million acres. Some 150 firefighters from New Zealand and Australia have been deployed to assist.
Deadly forest fires have already swept across Greece, and fires are burning in Germany and elsewhere.
In the Eastern US, relentless rain has flooded many places across the East Coast.
In the US, Death Valley National Park set a new world record for the hottest July ever.
In Australia, there’s no end in sight for the destructive drought, with places having received the lowest average rainfall in nearly 30 years.
In Portugal and Spain, red alerts have been issued amid a smothering heat wave that has produced near-record temperatures in the southern European countries. The extremely high temperatures, caused by an influx of hot air from Africa, are carrying loads of dust from the Sahara Desert.
In Germany, the heatwave has driven water levels along the Elbe River so low that unexploded grenades, landmines, and other ammunition from World War II have emerged. Citizens are cautioned not to go near them as they still pose a danger.

Also in Florida, a group of South American lizards that can grow up to four feet long (1.2 meters) has established a home in the Florida wild after being brought to the US as pets; and the reptiles could begin a voracious march across the U.S. South. Add that to the python pets released by the ignorant and uncaring that have vastly increased in number and are gradually making their way north as they devastate the ecological system.

In Britain, for decades, BBC star Jimmy Savile (died 2011) was extremely popular with the public. He palled around with the royals and Thatchers and was knighted by both Queen Elizabeth and Pope John Paul II. But glaring signs were ignored. It emerged this month that Savile is believed to have sexually abused at least 500 girls and boys, some as young as two, and countless adults during his unfettered hospital access. He also allegedly committed sex acts on dead bodies, and even told hospital workers he made jewelry out of one man’s glass eye.
In India, Neva Sankalp Samiti, home to 44 children, is a short-stay home for girls who have run away or been rescued. BrajeshThakur, head of the shelter, is said to have led abuse of the girls, including stripping them naked, beating them with sticks and belts, and injecting them with sedatives so they could be sexually assaulted. The oldest victim was 18; the youngest was 7.
