The Guadalupe River surge measured 20 feet in just an hour at Kerrville and nearly 27 feet in Comfort in just 45 minutes. The surge took the river to historic levels not seen in nearly a century before many had time to react. Entire homes were swept away near the river. All that was left behind were concrete pads where the homes’ foundation stood.

Senate Passes Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood…But… Planned Parenthood defunding is retained in the final version of the bill, but the 10-year funding ban has been scaled back to just one year. Vice President Vance broke a 50-50 tie to get the measure approved after three Republican senators voted no. All Democrats voted no. The vote will now send it back to the House for a confirmation vote of the changes the Senate made.

Sniper started wildfire to lure firefighters into deadly ambush. Two firefighters were killed and a third was wounded when a sniper opened fire on first responders at the site of a wildfire in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Authorities described it as an “ambush” and believe the lone gunman intentionally set the fire to lure first responders. He apparently committed suicide afterward.
