That’s not going to pay the rent.” Meanwhile, on Wednesday he received the support of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) for his promotion of an anti-malarial drug to treat the coronavirus. AAPS presented data obtained after a study of 2,333 coronavirus patients treated with the hydroxychloroquine drug. 91.6% of patients got better after being administered the drug.

Cuomo, in a video, told people to stay home, yet he and his family went out in public while under quarantine due to Cuomo having been diagnosed Mar 31 with coronavirus, and his wife on April 3. On April 12 they were seen walking on a trail (none had masks or gloves even). A bicyclist asked why he wasn’t in quarantine. Cuomo began yelling and said, “I can do what I want!” On April 20, Cuomo did a video showing himself emerging from quarantine, claiming he’d been at home in the Hamptons the whole time. He lied. On April 22, it was announced his 14-year-old son had coronavirus. Is Cuomo back in quarantine…for real this time?
Coronavirus spreads in a New York nursing home forced to take recovering patients. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and de Blasio apparently care nothing for senior citizens. Coronavirus patients began arriving the last week of March, transferred to the Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center under a New York state mandate requiring nursing homes to accept those recovering from COVID-19, even if they still might be contagious. At the time, the nursing home had only one known resident who’d contracted the virus. A month later, Gurwin is battling an outbreak that’s killed 24 residents (only three of whom were hospital transfers) and one staff member. And the nursing home is still mandated to take in recovering hospital patients known to have the virus, potentially increasing its spread.

After neighbors reported a foul odor, between 40-60 bodies were found unrefrigerated, stacked in U-Haul trucks outside Andrew Cleckley Funeral Services in Brooklyn, New York or inside on the building’s floor. One neighbor said he’d observed cadavers being stored in the trucks for several weeks during the pandemic.
In four U.S. state prisons, nearly 3,300 inmates test positive for coronavirus — 96% without symptoms in reports have come in from four state prison systems: Arkansas, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. Tennessee said a majority of its positive cases didn’t show symptoms. In Michigan, state authorities said “a good number” of the 620 prisoners who tested positive for the coronavirus were asymptomatic.

‘MAGA May Day’ Freedom Rallies Planned Across America to Protest Lockdowns were slated across America on May 1 to send a message to “local and state government tyrants” that it’s time to safely and responsibly reopen the country. The “drive-in” rallies encouraged participants to demand independence from China, not allowing the country to “control trade, supply chains, or anything else that affects the daily life, health, happiness of American citizens.” Organizers stressed that they are “NOT anti-quarantine” and said, “This virus is not a hoax. It is very real and we must protect the most vulnerable… however, America cannot destroy the lives and dreams of the majority to protect a few. The cure cannot be more dangerous than the disease.”
Riots in crisis-hit Lebanon reflect growing poverty, despair. Riots broke out in Lebanon’s second-largest city Tuesday, threatening to renew nationwide protests over growing poverty and further crippling of an economy already in freefall from the pandemic. Clashes in Tripoli erupted after a funeral for a man shot by soldiers during riots. Later in the week, saboteurs infiltrated the protest and sparked clashes; a grenade was thrown at a patrol and at least one bank was set ablaze. Some 30 people were injured, and one person died.

China’s Digital Currency to Be Given A Test Drive, and Chose 3 US Companies in China to Participate. It’s unclear how Starbucks, McDonald’s and Subway were chosen, but it was a local decision to include those local franchises. However, a Starbucks spokesperson supposedly told CNBC the company is “not participating in any digital currency trial in China.” McDonald’s and Subway were not immediately available for comment. The central government agency reportedly overseeing the project did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A growing number of voices are calling for the U.S. to issue a “digital dollar” as China continues to work its digital version.

The Past Two Weeks Have Wreaked Havoc in Many Countries; Some Even Longer:
In North America:
US: Record breaking heat settles in the Southwest (April 29). A few records will be possible in the desert southwest including Phoenix with a forecast of 103. The heat will remain locked in place for much of the Southwest U.S. for several days. A 100-degree temperature has never been recorded in April in Las Vegas, but on Wednesday the forecast was 102.
Canada: 15 Mile Ice-jam Causes flooding, forcing 15,000 to evacuate. Mandatory evacuation order was issued Monday in Fort McMurray after the city became threatened by fast-moving waters.
In the Middle East:
Yemen: Over 100,000 affected by ‘once-in-a-generation’ floods. The country has been hit by three waves of heavy rains and flash flooding (March 25, April 13, and April 22) causing death and destruction.
Saudi Arabia: Heavy rains trigger floods in Najran on April 27, dumped by a storm system that brought wet and windy conditions from Turkey to Saudi Arabia. Egypt and Iran were also affected. Inclement weather was forecast to continue in some areas until the end of the week.
Iran and Egypt: A gigantic sandstorm hit central Iran on April 26 with wind speed up to 130 km/h (81 mph), turning day into night. Prior to the sandstorm in Iran, high winds wreaked havoc across Egypt on April 24, as a major sandstorm forced closure of several ports and highways.
In Africa: Some 29 counties have been affected by severe weather, and forecasters warned that the situation may not improve soon. Here are just several examples:
Chad: Heavy rain and floods damaged or destroyed shelters in displacement camps on April 21, forcing 430 households of 2,062 individuals to flee destroyed shelters.
Burkina Faso: Heavy rainfall led to localized flooding on April 19. Among those affected were those already in displaced settlements. Kongoussi hosts nearly 21,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs). Many in the camps have been left without shelter.
Kenya: Ongoing floods have claimed at least 116 lives and displaced 100,000 families. The number in dire need of emergency response could be higher, given the challenges in gathering data.
Tanzania: Thousands affected by flooding and mudslides over this past week. Two fatalities were reported; at least 50 homes destroyed. In Kilimanjaro region, over 2,700 households have been made homeless; dozens of homes swept away in Hai District.
Djibouti: 8 Killed in Flash Floods. Djibouti city and surrounding areas were the worst affected after flash flooding on April 21. Some 18,000 households (approximately 110,000 persons) were affected.
Ethiopia and Somalia: Intense rains trigger deadly flash floods; 83,000 displaced.
Rwanda and Burundi – 9 Dead, Thousands Affected After Floods and Landslides last week.
In South Asia:
Pakistan: Hailstorm and intense rain ravage standing crops on April 25 in Swabi. Many other areas were affected as well. Agricultural leaders appealed to have Swabi declared a disaster area.
Indonesia – 4 Dead, 3 Missing After Floods in West Java and Central Kalimantan on April 21. Flooding was also reported in Central Kalimantan. Reports say this is unusual for the time of year.
India: Severe hailstorms wreak havoc across India, destroy homes and crops. Bouts of hailstorms in the past weeks have wreaked havoc in various parts of India. In Mizoram, hail lashed about 795 houses on April 29. In Haryana, over 250,000 ha (618,000 acres) of rabi crops were ravaged by heavy showers and hail over last weekend. In West Bengal, up to 8 million dollars’ worth of mango was ravaged in Malda due to a hailstorm last week.
In the South Pacific:
Fiji: Torrential rains aggravate situation in areas still affected by Tropical Cyclone Harold. The disaster management office issued warnings April 29, urging residents to evacuate amid worsening conditions.
In South America:
Colombia: Heavy rains cause deadly landslide in Cauca department April 25 leaving three dead; further heavy rainfall was forecast.
Drought in Central Europe:
Poland: Wildfires ripped through Poland’s biggest national park on Earth Day. The situation was worsened due to the fact that Poland is currently experiencing its worst drought in decades.
Czech Republic facing catastrophic drought, worst in 500 years, threatening harvest and water supply.
In Oceania:
Australia: Records tumble as cold blast sweeps across Australia. Experiencing Arctic Blast in autumn. A cold front is sweeping across Australia following its fifth warmest April on record. Parts of Victoria are set to experience their coldest start to May; New South Wales is being hit with blizzard conditions and below-freezing temperatures; Sydney had its coldest May 1 in a decade; parts of Southern Queensland and Brisbane shiver through near-frigid temperatures, and Perth is set to be drenched by rains following the state’s record-breaking April heat. Melbourne records wettest April since 1960.

An earthquake struck south of the Greek island of Crete on May 2. Various reports say 5.9, 6.0 or 6.6. The quake was stronger than most but took place relatively far from populated areas. The quake was felt in Israel, Turkey, Egypt and Libya.
Peru: 5.7 earthquake hit Lampa province on May 2. There were no immediate reports of damage.
There were several other quakes over 5.0 this week, including a string of quakes in Argentina.

Russia: Kuril Islands volcano blankets town in ash. The Ebeko volcano erupted Tuesday. Footage showed the aftermath with cars and homes in the town blanketed in ash.

Two alleged Israeli airstrikes in Syria on Thursday night and Friday targeted western and southern Syria, according to Syrian state news. Some reports say the targets belonged to Hezbollah.
US jets scramble to intercept Russian warplane after approaching aircraft carrier. It managed to get within 30km (18 miles) of the USS George Washington aircraft carrier without being detected.
Egypt army says 10 soldiers killed, injured in North Sinai blast. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack that occurred during the Islam’s holy month of Ramadan. For years, security forces have battled to contain fighting in North Sinai. An Egyptian policeman and seven suspected fighters were killed April 14 in an exchange of fire after the interior ministry received information about potential Easter attacks against Coptic Christians. Three other policemen were also wounded.

A New Comet
Comet C/2020 F8 (SWAN) rapidly brightening, now visible to naked eye. It was first spotted on April 11 during Passover week and the day before Easter aka Resurrection Sunday. The comet appears like a bright fuzz ball in the sky when observed with the human eye, but much more can be revealed even with small telescopes. “The tail on this is now at least 8 deg long! The best comet I’ve seen in some years,” said astrophotographer Damian Peach. For now, SWAN is only visible from the Southern Hemisphere, but soon it will become visible in mid-northern latitudes, including the U.S., Europe, and southern Canada. As the comet moves closer to the horizon, it will brighter further. Hopefully, it won’t disintegrate.

LAST DAYS BURDENSOME STONE
Jordan halts Israeli farmers’ access to their fields in border enclave. Jordan’s Foreign Ministry said Israeli farmers will no longer be allowed to work their fields in an enclave of southern Jordan, ending a more than 25-year arrangement meant to shore up a historic peace agreement. Jordan joined other Arab countries in condemning Netanyahu’s plan to annex parts of the West Bank, including Israeli settlements and the Jordan Valley. They say annexation would extinguish hope of a “Palestinian” state.
A group of 10 European ambassadors gave a formal protest to Israel and stressed that annexation of parts of Judea and Samaria would destabilize the region and harm Israel’s standing in the international community, The US, however, says “we are prepared to recognize Israeli actions to extend Israeli sovereignty and the application of Israeli law to areas of the West Bank that the vision foresees as being part of the State of Israel.” The US will ask Israel’s new unity government to negotiate with “Palestinian” Arabs. The US says application of sovereignty was ultimately “an Israeli decision.”
