A rare October ice storm hit Oklahoma Tuesday. A state of emergency was declared for 47 counties. NWS offices in Norman and Tulsa issued their first-ever ice storm warnings in October.
Tripoli, capital of Libya hammered by vicious hailstorm. During this vicious supercell thunderstorm on Oct 27, huge hailstones (some over 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter, fell from the sky.
Hurricane Zeta was the record-tying sixth hurricane to make landfall in the US and the record fifth named storm to strike Louisiana in 2020 as well as the strongest hurricane ever to move over New Orleans. Zeta gradually weakened as it accelerated northeastward, and became post-tropical on October 29, as it moved through Virginia. Numerous tropical cyclone watches and warnings were issued in areas that had already dealt with other tropical cyclones throughout the season, including Hurricane Delta, which took a near identical track three weeks prior.
States of emergencies were issued in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Heavy rain in Jamaica led to a landslide that killed a man and his daughter when it hit their family home on October 24. Strong winds and storm surge knocked down trees branches onto flooded streets in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, near where Zeta made landfall in Mexico. Heavy rain, storm surge, strong winds, and tornadoes also pummeled the Southeastern United States and at least six fatalities have been confirmed in the region so far.

Officials said was the most powerful to hit Vietnam in 20 years. Latest figures as of Thursday show 47 confirmed dead and another 81 missing. The death toll is expected to rise. Vietnam has already been ravaged with devastating floods over the past weeks, leaving well over 100 dead. One source said over 200 dead. And another typhoon (Goni/Rolly) is headed their way!
Typhoon “Goni” (Rolly) rapidly intensifies into strongest storm of the year; Quezon Province under red alert – Philippines. The storm is forecast to make landfall over Aurora-Quezon area from Sunday evening to early Monday morning, Nov 1 to 2, with intensity of up to 195 km/h (121 mph). Goni will then head toward Vietnam where recent tropical cyclones caused floods and landslides in which at least 230 lives have been lost.
Tropical Storm Eta could debut next week; first appearance ever for Greek alphabet’s 7th letter. A weather system in the Caribbean Sea has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone and, if it becomes named, the 2020 hurricane season will be the first to have reached 28 named storms. Never before has there been a tropical storm or hurricane named Eta, after the seventh letter of the Greek alphabet.

Turkey-Greece quake: Search for survivors under rubble. Rescue teams in the Turkish port city of Izmir are still hunting through the rubble of collapsed buildings for survivors of Friday’s powerful 7.0 earthquake. The death toll from the quake, which also struck the Greek island of Samos, has risen to 30, with over 800 injured, and a number of people missing. Rescue work has been hampered by nearly 400 aftershocks, with 33 of these more powerful than 4.0. There were reports of flooding as the sea level rose.
On the Greek island of Samos, two people were killed and eight injured in the biggest tremor to have hit the island since 1904. A mini-tsunami flooded the port of Samos, and a number of buildings were damaged.

Muslims ‘have right to kill millions of French,’ says ex-Malaysian Prime Minister after beheading terror attack. The tweet was one of several criticizing French leadership following a recent beheading attack against a French teacher, Samuel Paty, who reportedly shared depictions of Muhammad. The tweets came as another knife attacker killed three people in a Thursday attack in Nice, France, including one woman who was beheaded.

Separately, a roadside bomb killed nine people after a bus full of civilians was struck. A second device was triggered that killed two police officers making their way to the scene of the devastated bus. No one claimed responsibility for the separate blasts, although local police blamed the (Sunni) Taliban. As for ISIS, they’ve also been known to attack Sunni Muslims and mosques that they believe don’t abide by Qur’an teachings.
Explosive balloons reported in southern Israel over Sapir Academic College near Sderot on Monday. An explosive charge attached to the balloons detonated in the air, but the balloons continued to travel and were tracked by security officials. A balloon landed at the Amdocs Factory in Sderot shortly afterwards.
Erdogan Dares Trump to Sanction Turkey. Tensions between France and Turkey turned personal as Turkey’s President Erdoğan said France’s President Emmanuel Macron was mentally unbalanced and required “treatment.” Erdogan also issued a challenge to the US, daring them to sanction his country.

Hours later, police in Avignon shot dead another man for threatening a passerby with a knife. The assailant in Nice was wounded by police after the murders at the Notre Dame Church, less than a kilometer (half-mile) from the site in 2016 where another attacker plowed a truck into a Bastille Day crowd, killing dozens.

In Pennsylvania: Thugs Burn Vietnamese Baptist Church in Philadelphia during the riots, but God answered the pastor’s prayer to save one important thing. The church’s pastor, Philip Pham, said that when he learned the church was on fire, he prayed to God that the hard drives stored in the building were safe. There was over a decade’s worth of information and documents regarding immigration paperwork and taxes for members of the community. “I saw the routers and modems and things surrounding the hard drives all burned, melted,” he said. “But that piece of hard drive, no harm. No harm at all. Just two feet above that, all melted.… That is amazing how God knows our needs and answers our prayers. He is an almighty God. He granted our prayer.”

Reports by International Atomic Energy Administration confirm Iran’s building of a new centrifuge facility in the mountains around Natanz, a new and dangerous chapter in the nuclear standoff. The new facility is Iran’s response to attempts to block one of its potential paths to leapfrog to a nuclear weapon faster.

South China Sea: Philippines warned of brutal China clashes with maritime militia. Philippines’ navy chief Giovanni Bacordo announced the country would send hundreds of militiamen to contested waters in the South China Sea to keep control over their territory. Experts warn the new plan will increase risk of encounters between non-military forces in the already fractious waters. The Philippines, among other Indo-Pacific nations, recently reaffirmed their claims to the waters, with the US and India challenging China over their “bullying” claims of “sovereignty.”

So-called ‘god of Chaos’ Asteroid Could Hit Earth in 2068. 99942 Apophis, a 1,120-foot-wide (340-meter-wide) asteroid, about the size of 3 ½ football fields, is named for the demon serpent who personified evil and chaos in ancient Egyptian mythology. It will make an extremely close pass by Earth in April 2029 (19,800 miles; 31,900 kilometers), although scientists say it will safely pass by. It’s rare for an asteroid of this size to pass so close to Earth, and it will be visible to the naked eye. The asteroid is drifting away from a purely gravitational orbit by about 170 meters per year, which is enough to keep a 2068 impact scenario in play, although scientists say the chance of impact is small.
God speaks of such devastating impacts during the Tribulation. As late as the hour is due to “converged signs,” a MUCH closer date should be considered. “And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter” (Revelation 8:8-11).
