A Divine Template for the Last-Days Remnant

There is a peculiar silence that falls when the people of God stand at the edge of promise. The wilderness lies behind them—forty years of murmuring, manna, and the graves of an unbelieving generation. Before them stretches a land flowing with milk and honey, yet it is a land already occupied by giants, walled cities, and principalities that have long claimed dominion. Joshua stands there not as a dreamer, but as a soldier under orders. The book that bears his name is not merely a military chronicle. It is a divine template for the last-days remnant who must cross their own Jordan and possess what God has already given.

The Bible is an integrated message system from outside our time domain. The book of Joshua proves it. Every battle, every failure, and every supernatural intervention is layered with prophetic significance. The name Joshua itself—Yehoshua, “Yahweh is salvation”—is the Hebrew form of the name later given to the Captain of our salvation (Hebrews 2:10). The shadow points to the Substance. The conquest of Canaan is a dress rehearsal for the final conflict between the Seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent.

Crossing the Jordan: The Death of the Old Man and the Typology of the Ark

The first lesson is foundational: you cannot possess the land until you have crossed the river. Israel did not swim the Jordan. They walked through on dry ground because the Ark of the Covenant went before them (Joshua 3:3-17). The waters that once represented judgment—the Flood and the Red Sea—now parted for the presence of God.

Here the typology of the Ark shines with particular brilliance. The Ark was the earthly throne of the invisible God. Overlaid with pure gold within and without, it contained the tables of the Law, the golden pot of manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded (Hebrews 9:4). Above it sat the mercy seat, where the blood was sprinkled on the Day of Atonement. In every detail the Ark prefigures Christ. He is the fulfillment of the Law. He is the true Bread from heaven. He is the resurrection life that buds from the dead rod. And He Himself is the mercy seat—the place where a holy God and sinful man meet through the blood (Romans 3:25).

When the soles of the priests’ feet, bearing the Ark, touched the waters of the Jordan, the river stood up in a heap far upstream at Adam (Joshua 3:15-16). The judgment waters were held back by the presence of the Ark until every last Israelite had passed over on dry ground. Only then did the priests come up, and the waters returned (Joshua 4:18). This is a vivid picture of our Lord Jesus Christ. He went before us into the waters of death and judgment. He held them back until His people were safely across. The moment the last believer is secure, the restraining hand will be removed, and the flood of final judgment will return with full force.

The Jordan is a type of death—death to self, death to the flesh, death to every confidence in the arm of the flesh. The generation that crossed was circumcised at Gilgal. There the reproach of Egypt was rolled away (Joshua 5:2–9). There is no inheritance for the uncircumcised heart. The Church is full of people who want Canaan without Calvary, promise without circumcision, victory without the cutting away of the flesh. Joshua teaches us otherwise. Faith is not a feeling. It is the obedient step that places the feet where the Word has already spoken. In an hour when the world system is collapsing and the waters of judgment are rising, the remnant must learn again to keep their eyes on the Ark—on Christ Himself—and move only when He moves.

Jericho: The Foolishness of God and the Presence of the Ark

Jericho was the gateway city, locked up tight (Joshua 6:1). Human strategy would have called for siege engines, battering rams, or at least a prolonged blockade. God called for a silent march of seven days, the continuous presence of the Ark, and a final shout. The Ark was carried around the city each day. On the seventh day, it circled seven times (Joshua 6:2-16). The walls fell flat—not inward, not outward in the usual pattern of siege warfare, but flat—so that every man went straight before him (Joshua 6:20).

The victory was not in the volume of the shout but in the obedience that preceded it. The Ark—the presence of God in Christ—must go before every true conquest. The Christian life is not a matter of trying harder but of trusting deeper. Jericho teaches that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (2 Corinthians 10:4). The Church of the last days will not overcome by political power, cultural influence, or clever marketing. We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb, the word of our testimony, and by loving not our lives unto the death (Revelation 12:11). The silent marches of faith—prayer, fasting, holiness, and the patient endurance of the saints—will one day be followed by a shout that brings every high thing down.

Yet even in victory there is warning. Achan saw, coveted, and took of the devoted thing (Joshua 7:1, 20-21). One man’s secret sin brought defeat at Ai. The sin of Achan was not merely theft. It was a violation of the cherem—the total devotion of the firstfruits to God. In an age of prosperity teaching and soft living, the lesson is searing. There can be no mixture. The devoted thing in the camp will always bring judgment until it is judged (Joshua 7:11-13). Corporate blessing is hindered by private compromise. The remnant must learn the fear of the Lord again.

The Long Day and the Southern Campaign

Then comes the day the sun stood still. Joshua prayed, and the God who created time suspended its normal course so that the victory might be complete (Joshua 10:12-14). This is no mere poetic flourish. The God of Israel intervenes in the natural order when His purposes require it. The same God who stopped the sun will one day darken it (Matthew 24:29; Revelation 6:12). The same Lord who prolonged the light for Joshua will shorten the days for the elect’s sake (Matthew 24:22).

The southern and northern campaigns that follow are a study in relentless obedience. No half-measures. No negotiated settlements with the Canaanite kings. The command was clear: drive them out (Deuteronomy 7:1-2; Joshua 11:15-20). The failure to finish the job would later cost Israel dearly in the days of the Judges. Incomplete obedience is disobedience. The principalities and powers do not negotiate. They only yield ground when forced by the authority of the risen Christ exercised through a holy people.

The Allocation of the Inheritance

Finally, the land is divided by lot. Every tribe receives its portion (Joshua 13-19). Caleb, at eighty-five years of age, still claims the mountain where the Anakim dwell. “Give me this mountain,” he says, and the text records that he drove them out (Joshua 14:6-15; 15:13-14). Here is the spirit the last-days Church desperately needs—not the spirit of the ten spies who saw only giants, but the spirit of Caleb and Joshua who saw the God who is bigger than the giants (Numbers 13:30; 14:6-9).

The inheritance is sure, but it must be possessed. There remains much land to be possessed (Joshua 13:1). The promises of God are not automatic. They are appropriated by faith and obedience. In an hour when many are settling for a wilderness Christianity—content with manna and the memory of past miracles—Joshua calls us to cross over and take the land.

The Covenant at Shechem

The book closes with a solemn assembly. Joshua gathers the people and rehearses the mighty acts of God (Joshua 24:1-13). Then comes the challenge: “Choose you this day whom ye will serve” (Joshua 24:15). He does not leave them in sentimental fog. He declares, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” The covenant is renewed. Stones are set up as witnesses. The people answer, yet Joshua knows the frailty of the human heart. He warns them that they cannot serve the Lord in their own strength. The fear of the Lord must be kept before their eyes (Joshua 24:19-27).

We stand in a similar hour. The Church is at a Shechem moment. The gods of this age—materialism, sensuality, political idolatry, and self-worship—are arrayed before us. The call is the same: choose. The Rapture is nearer than when we first believed (Romans 13:11). The trump of God will sound. The dead in Christ will rise. Those who are alive and remain will be caught up (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17). But until that moment, the lessons of Joshua stand:

• Cross the Jordan—die to the old life, keeping your eyes fixed on the Ark, which is Christ.
• March around Jericho—obey even when it looks foolish, for the presence of the Ark goes before you.
• Judge the Achan in the camp—tolerate no devoted thing that belongs to judgment.
• Ask for the long day—believe God for the supernatural.
• Finish the conquest—leave no ground for the enemy.
• Claim your mountain—refuse to settle for less than the full inheritance.
• Renew the covenant—choose this day whom you will serve.

The Captain of the Lord’s host still stands with drawn sword (Joshua 5:13-15). The question He asked Joshua is the question He asks us: “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” There is no neutral ground. The land is before us. The time is short. Let the remnant arise, cross over, and possess the promises. The God of Joshua is the God of the open door and the soon-coming King.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Additionally, the demented and debased behavior of individual people indicates that the disconnect from reality has permeated the masses, and there is no end in sight.

Triage – An emergency evaluation of wounded during a cataclysmic event in order to initially determine if a victim will be able to be successfully treated or if their condition is beyond treatment. This evaluation can be assessed on nations as well.

Too little, too late? (The triage of America).

Can the tide of intentional destruction of America be turned back?

There is a strong effort to try to restore our republic by returning to our Constitutional foundations, which are primarily based on the Word of the True, Living, and only God.

• But so much time has elapsed, and so much of the underpinnings of that Constitution have been allowed to become infected with a deadly pestilence that it (and thus America) may be beyond salvation.
• Our political system is now thoroughly infected with a plague. A deadly rot which is the polar opposite of ethics and morals that lend themselves to life, liberty, and the pursuit of “happiness” (not happiness as is experienced in the flesh when acquiring some material thing), but true happiness that is defined by inner peace, contentment, and the strength of solid underpinnings. Which can only be found when one has reconciled with God, through Jesus Christ.

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” – John Adams

I believe it could be proven that John Adams was speaking of a baseline of moral conduct that was (and still is) in harmony with God’s definition of it.

That is not to say there are no morals among non-Christian people. There are, but is that moral behavior derived from God’s expressed Christian principles, or is it derived from some secular “golden rule” based on flexible human concepts of right and wrong?

Like any framework of conduct, it will only be as strong as its foundation.

“God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind” (Numbers 23:19).

Does it mean that Christians automatically conduct themselves as sinless and perfect people? I think God already confirmed the weakness of that presumption:

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Emphasis added.

Of course, “all” actually means “all” in God’s Word: believers and unbelievers – all.

The difference is being convicted of breaking with God’s moral requirements and then repenting of their sin and confessing it to Him (followers of Christ/believers); and being totally indifferent to sin (unbelievers), and, as a result, indifferent to Him to whom everyone will give account.

“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13). Emphasis added.

It is the absence of understanding of and disobedience to God in such overwhelming numbers that has brought America to the perilous condition we find it in today.

America once had basic gratitude and attitudes toward our Creator God that in most cases defined this nation’s actions and moral underpinnings, but they have been overshadowed by growing human arrogance, depravity fueled by “higher education” and perceived success in humanism-based self-governance, that is, the illusion of successful governing independent of God.

Where has that led us? 5 Minutes of internet exploration will provide ample proof of the true “state of the union.” Am I being too hard on the institutions of “higher learning”? Am I too harsh in my assessment of America’s moral state? Unfortunately, I think not.

“Fear the Lord and the king; do not associate with those who are given to change, for their calamity will rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin that comes from both of them?” (Proverbs 24:21-22). Emphasis added.

America is coming to find out what that calamity entails.

The behavior of individuals (as well as the nation) described in God’s Word has now become an example of what has replaced that which defined our nation for almost 250 years (see Romans 1:18-32, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 2 Peter 3:3-7, and other passages).

I say almost 250 years because America has been on a downward trajectory for many of them, and it has greatly accelerated since the 1960s.

Where, one supposes, does the “illegal alien” acquire the funds to pay the “fine” if indeed it ever gets paid? What percentage, does one suppose, of these people who are “fined” have anything other than taxpayer dollars with which to pay it?

The media jumps on every opportunity to fault this country, and while that is a major problem in itself, the real problem is that there are now far too many people who believe them – without confirming the report’s truthfulness.

Weasel words and deadly poison.

Recycled stupidity nets more stupidity.

As ever, the Law of Entropy applies.

The “leaders” of today’s mayhem and their circuitous ignorance are addressed by the Word of God quite accurately and graphically:

“Like a dog returning to its vomit, a fool repeats his foolishness” (Proverbs 26:11).

Over thousands of years, God has held out to us the keys to the Eternal City:

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance” (Psalm 33:12).

“for “the earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness” (1 Corinthians 10:26).

But, as He also foretold, human history would degenerate into chaos, wars, and bloodshed until He would have to intervene in judgement: (Revelation 6:1–19:21).

He did not exempt America from this declaration:

“From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from him who has been entrusted with much, even more will be demanded” (Luke 12:48b).

America has been given so much more than “much” and is squandering it.

This in no way should be construed as an attempt to pin the blame on Donald Trump, as I know so many delight to do. It goes way back beyond him, and he, like all of us, is included in Romans 3:23.

There is evidence that America is starting to turn against Israel. I have made my understanding of the meaning of Genesis 12:3 clear in previous articles, so I will not repeat that here other than to include this Scriptural reminder:

“So on that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem” (Zechariah 12:9/see Zechariah 12:1-9 for context).

Now to the crux of this article.

God declared the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:9-10), as He promised, because He does not want anyone to perish but all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9/1 Timothy 2:3-4).

And He established that His intention was for ‘All Nations’ through the Gospel:

“The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: ‘All nations will be blessed through you.’ So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith” (Galatians 3:8-9). Emphasis added.

That Gospel is solely centered on His Son, Jesus Christ:

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6).

God has made the Way to eternal life clear: Choose Jesus or choose to bet your life on humanity, and then He makes the consequences equally clear:

“Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?” (Isaiah 2:22). Emphasis added.

God, by His own authority, has given mankind the freedom to choose life in His Son or to reject His Grace and Mercy toward us:

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19). Emphasis added.

The Lord is holding His hand out to all who have eyes to see and ears to hear. If you choose to act, you must do so while you are still in your living years.

If you should choose not to act, you have chosen rejection.

I pray you will choose life.

The special message I promised you:

For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no real hope or peace in your life.

You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding.

It requires that you come before God on His terms and that you do so in your living years.

And, what are His terms according to His Word?

• Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
• Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
• That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
• To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
• Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross and rose from the grave three days later, conquering death, just as He promised.
• To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.

This is what leads one to the Spiritual Rebirth that Jesus requires (John 3.3).

God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.

• No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
• No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
• Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.

If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.

“Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24).

There are no answers and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. They are incapable of it. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.

The answers are in the Word of God—The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
