Dare To Be An Enoch :: By Jonathan Brentner

“Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24).

Enoch is a type of our future departure from the earth at Jesus’ appearing. Hebrews 11:5 tells us this about his sudden disappearance:

“By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.”

Enoch’s faith pleased God (see 11:6), but what exactly did he believe? The text does not directly answer that question; it only reveals that he pleased the Lord. Genesis 5:24 simply says that he “walked with God” before he vanished; others saw Enoch’s faith and knew the reason why no one could find him; he wasn’t killed by a wild animal, kidnapped, or lost somewhere. “God took him.”

Jude 14 adds that Enoch also “prophesied, saying, ‘Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones.'” Isn’t it amazing that about six centuries before the Noahic flood, the Lord was already talking to Enoch about His Second Coming?

Enoch’s faith included an understanding of, as well as a belief in, future prophecy.

What does all this have to do with us?

Just as Enoch gained a reputation in the ancient world for his faith despite the rampant wickedness and lawlessness, so our belief in what Scripture says about our future sets us apart from the world.

Enoch lived 365 years before God took him away from the earth. From all that we know about the wickedness and lawlessness of the antediluvian world, that’s a long time to walk faithfully with the Lord.

Like Enoch, we must persevere amid today’s ridicule of our hope, such as the CNN article mocking the Rapture, as we eagerly await our “blessed hope.”

What can help us do that?

Know That the Rapture Is a Biblical Event

I believe it helps us to remind ourselves that the Rapture is a biblical event. Consider the following quote from the late Dr. Ed Hindson, a beloved scholar whose insights into biblical prophecy we sorely miss:

“If you disagree on the timing of the rapture, please don’t tell people, ‘There’s never going to be a rapture.’ No, there must be a rapture, or the Bible is not true. There must be a time when the archangel shouts, when the trumpet sounds, and the dead in Christ are raised, and the living are caught up (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). We may differ on the timing of the rapture but not the fact of the rapture.” [i]

As Dr. Hindson alludes to in the above quote, there must be a time when the event, which Paul describes in numerous passages, happens or God’s Word is not true. Our hope in what we today call the “Rapture” rests upon what Scripture says will take place.

It’s a biblical event that cannot be combined with the Second Coming.

(Note: The Rapture will happen before the seven-year Tribulation. I have written many articles to that effect and spent many chapters in my book, The Triumph of the Redeemed, demonstrating why it must happen before this time of God’s wrath upon the earth.)

The Rapture is something we read about in passages such as 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17.

“For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”

Our hope as New Testament saints consists of the following sequence of events that the Bible tells us will happen quickly, almost simultaneously:

  • Jesus appears; He descends from heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:16; 1 John 3:2-3; Colossians 1:4).
  • There’s a “cry of command” and the shout of the archangel (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
  • The “trumpet of God” sounds (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
  • Jesus raises the dead in Christ and joins them with the souls that He brings with Him at His appearing (1 Thessalonians 4:14-16; 1 Corinthians 15:52).
  • Believers living at the time of Jesus’ appearing receive their immortal bodies (1 Thessalonians 4:17; 1 Corinthians 15:50-54; Philippians 3:20-21; Romans 8:23-25).
  • Jesus takes His bride, the church, to the place He’s prepared for them in His Father’s house (John 14:2-3, 17:24; Colossians 3:4). We appear with Jesus in glory.

The Rapture is a biblical event. The Lord will catch us up to be with Him someday, and just like Enoch, I believe that most of us will still be alive when this happens.

Remember That the Rapture Is Our Gospel Hope

Unfortunately, many people today divorce the Rapture from the Gospel, but this was not the case in New Testament times.

1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 tells us that Paul’s initial proclamation of the Gospel in Thessalonica included the fact of Jesus’ appearing to take believers away from the earth before a future time of wrath, which he later described as the “Day of the Lord”:

“For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”

Their conversion story consisted not only of turning to God and away from idols but also that of waiting for Jesus’ appearing (AKA the Rapture).

Pay close attention to the words in Romans 8:23-24a:

“And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved.” (Emphasis mine)

The Rapture is when we will receive our immortal bodies (hence “the redemption of our bodies”). Notice what the apostle says about our anticipation of this event, “For in this hope we were saved.” The Rapture is an essential aspect of our Gospel hope.

Jesus often promised eternal life to those who would believe in Him and talked about His return for us in the Upper Room as He prepared His disciples for life without His physical presence. The apostles, especially Paul, later added more details about our hope under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

The Rapture is either described or clearly alluded to in these New Testament texts: John 14:2-3; Philippians 3:20-21; Colossians 3:4; 1 Corinthians 1:7, 15:51-57; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8; Titus 2:11-15; Hebrews 9:28; James 5:7-8; 1 Peter 1:13; 1 John 3:2-3, and Revelation 3:10-11a, 22:12, 20.

The Rapture was not an afterthought in the minds of the apostles as they proclaimed the Gospel.

Hold Tightly to the Lord for Strength

It’s not easy being an Enoch in today’s world. It requires courage to hold on to our beliefs in Jesus’ imminent appearing amid ridicule from the world and from other believers.

CNN recently posted an article that mocks the Rapture by telling someone’s story about the anxiety it caused her. This woman, however, does not understand the Gospel message nor what Scripture says about our hope in Jesus’ appearing.

Of course, if people think their salvation depends on their good behavior and they never hear about the glories ahead for them in eternity, teachings about a sudden disappearance from all the things they love on earth will scare them. But that is NOT the Gospel, nor is it the Gospel hope that we find throughout the New Testament.

One more thought about the CNN hit piece on the Rapture. Perhaps it’s an indication that Satan knows Jesus’ appearing will happen very, very soon and desires to get ahead of the curve by attacking it.

All this fierce opposition to our hope means that we must continually rely on Christ for our strength as we cling to the words of Scripture. The numerous passages I cited above confirm that the Rapture is a biblical event. Don’t lose hope.

I know it’s not easy waiting for the Lord to return for us; I also struggle with the wait at times. I never thought we would remain on the earth so close to the seven-year Tribulation, but here we are.

The longer the wait, the more we need the Lord’s help in order to persevere in our hope of Jesus’ soon return.

The example of Enoch encourages us to endure amid the opposition to our hope that we encounter at every turn. And we will not have to wait until we are 365 years old for it to happen.

Furthermore, the Lord will reward our faith despite the seemingly long, long wait.

There’s a Sure Reward for Loving Jesus’ Appearing

God rewarded Enoch for his faith. He took him long before He judged the ancient world and included his name in Hebrews 11, a chapter that many regard as the hall of fame for faith. And, he has been with the Lord all these millennia.

For those of us who dare to be like Enoch in our walk of faith, there will be a special reward for maintaining our hope in Jesus’ imminent appearing. In 2 Timothy 4:8, Paul wrote:

“Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”

When Jesus comes for His church, He will take all born-again saints to His Father’s house in heaven, just as He promises us in John 14:2-3. However, in 2 Timothy 4:8, the apostle tells us there will be a special “crown of righteousness” for those who long for or love His appearing, even if they, like Paul, die before the Rapture.

The Lord will reward those who persevere in holding on to their belief in the pre-Tribulation Rapture despite the wait.

I realize that “dare to be an Enoch” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as does “dare to be a Daniel.” I thought about “endeavor to be an Enoch” or “emulating Enoch,” but such phrases don’t convey the boldness required to be an Enoch today.

Enoch stood out in the ancient world because of his faith, which included a belief in the Second Coming of Jesus, which still hasn’t happened. We also please the Lord as we hold tightly to the Gospel message of grace and expectantly long for Jesus’ appearing to take us home.

I will close with the words of Romans 1:16-17:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.'”

Hold tightly to your anticipation of Jesus’ soon appearing. Jesus will come for us very, very soon. He will not disappoint us, and He will most certainly reward us for our perseverance and endurance as we eagerly await His appearance and our journey to heaven.

Dividing God’s Land and Swift Judgment :: By Geri Ungurean

… Which Ensues EVERY SINGLE TIME

Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

Wouldn’t you think that someone would take notice of the disasters, which historically follow talk of dividing God’s land, and change their ultimate goal?

“Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand” (Daniel 12:10).

Perhaps it is similar to when God hardened the heart of Pharaoh…

Florida is still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Ian. It is now being called the worst storm in recorded history for the Sunshine State.

Let’s look at what happened before this monster storm concerning Israel.

PM Lapid’s Expected Speech: https://youtu.be/l3B318SvOBk

Lapid’s UN Speech: https://youtu.be/dQVwHjFdahI

I have been asked by a few readers why a state like FL would be struck with such devastation and not a state like CA. I responded to them that our God is sovereign, and He makes no mistakes. We MUST trust Him!

Now, let’s look back at the historical events concerning the dividing of God’s own land and the consequences which followed.

From thewashingtonstandard.com

#1 The last time the U.S. government refused to veto an anti-Israel resolution at the UN Security Council was in 1979. On March 22nd, 1979, the Carter administration chose not to veto UN Resolution 446. Four days after that, on March 26th, the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty was signed in Washington. As a result of that treaty, Israel gave up a tremendous amount of territory. Two days later, on March 28th, the worst nuclear power plant disaster in U.S. history made headlines all over the globe. The following comes from Wikipedia

The Three Mile Island accident was a partial nuclear meltdown that occurred on March 28, 1979, in reactor number 2 of Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station (TMI-2) in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was the most significant accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history. The incident was rated a five on the seven-point International Nuclear Event Scale: Accident With Wider Consequences.

#2  On October 30th, 1991, President George H. W. Bush opened the Madrid Peace Conference, which brought Israelis and Palestinians together to negotiate for the very first time. In his opening speech, Bush told Israel that “territorial compromise is essential for peace.” At the exact same time, “the Perfect Storm” was brewing in the north Atlantic. This legendary storm traveled 1,000 miles in the wrong direction and sent 35-foot waves slamming directly into President Bush’s home in Kennebunkport, Maine.

#3  On August 23rd, 1992, the Madrid Peace Conference moved to Washington D.C., and the very next day, Hurricane Andrew made landfall in Florida, causing 30 billion dollars in damage. It was the worst natural disaster up to that time in U.S. history.

#4  On January 16th, 1994, President Clinton met with President Assad of Syria to discuss the possibility of Israel giving up the Golan Heights. Within 24 hours, the devastating Northridge earthquake hit southern California. It was the second worst natural disaster up to that time in U.S. history.

#5  On January 21st, 1998, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House but received a very cold reception. In fact, President Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright actually refused to have lunch with him. That exact same day, the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke, sending the Clinton presidency into a tailspin from which it would never recover.

#6  On September 28th, 1998, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was working on finalizing a plan which would have had Israel give up approximately 13 percent of Judea and Samaria. On that precise day, Hurricane George slammed into the Gulf Coast with wind gusts of up to 175 miles an hour.

#7  On May 3rd, 1999, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was supposed to hold a press conference to declare the creation of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as the capital. On that precise day, the most powerful tornadoes ever recorded in the U.S. ripped through Oklahoma and Kansas. At one point, one of the tornadoes actually had a recorded wind speed of 316 miles an hour.

#8  On April 30th, 2003, “the Road Map to Peace” that had been developed by the so-called “Quartet” was presented to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon by U.S. Ambassador Daniel Kurtzer. Over the next seven days, the U.S. was hit by a staggering 412 tornadoes. It was the largest tornado cluster ever recorded up to that time.

#9  In 2005, President George W. Bush (the son of George H. W. Bush) convinced Israel that it was necessary to remove all of the Jewish settlers out of Gaza and turn it over entirely to the Palestinians. According to the New York Times, the very last of the settlers were evacuated on August 23, 2005. On that precise day, a storm that would be given the name “Katrina” started forming over the Bahamas. The city of New Orleans still has not fully recovered from the damage that storm caused, and it ranked as the costliest natural disaster in all of U.S. history up to that time.

#10  On May 19th, 2011, Barack Obama told Israel that there must be a return to the pre-1967 borders. Three days later, on May 22nd, a half-mile wide EF-5 multiple-vortex tornado ripped through Joplin, Missouri. According to Wikipedia, it was “the costliest single tornado in U.S. history.” Source

The New Madrid Fault Zone

Brethren, this is mere speculation on my part, but since Hurricane Ian struck Florida so brutally, I cannot stop thinking about the fault zone called “New Madrid.”

If the New Madrid finally brings an earthquake, it will not only cause death and destruction, but it will literally change the geography of the U.S.!

This is from an article I wrote years ago on New Madrid. Scientists say that it is just a matter of time before the New Madrid Earthquake brings utter devastation to our country.

New Madrid Fault Zone Waking Up: When it Occurs – It WILL Be the Big One (includes map)

For years I have been researching and watching this little-known Fault Zone, which scientists say will wreak much havoc in Midwest states. It is said that a powerful quake in the New Madrid area would forever change the landscape of the U.S.

Earthquakes that occur in the New Madrid Seismic Zone potentially threaten parts of eight American states: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.

A Little History

The quakes, which occurred between December 1811 and February 1812, produced seismic events measuring 7.0 and greater.

This was called the New Madrid “Sequence” because it happened over a few months. On December 16, 1811, the first quake, which measured 7.5 – 7.9 (moment magnitude), was named the “Daylight Shock.” Its epicenter was located in northeast Arkansas. Although it was very powerful, it did little damage because the area was so sparsely populated.

The initial shock on December 16 was followed by a 7.4 aftershock on that same day. ‘Uplifts’ in the ground gave observers the impression that the Mississippi river was flowing backward!

On January 23, 1812, a magnitude 7.3 quake occurred with its epicenter around New Madrid. Although this shock was said to be the smallest of the four, it did extensive damage – ground deformation, landslides, fissuring, and stream banks caved.

On February 7th, 1812, the largest quake in the series (7.5) occurred in the New Madrid, Missouri area and completely destroyed the town of New Madrid.

In St. Louis, Missouri, many homes were damaged beyond repair as the quake toppled chimneys. It appears that this event happened at “Reelfoot fault” (a reverse fault), which crosses under the Mississippi River.

This created temporary waterfalls along the Mississippi River, which in turn created a wave upstream, thus creating a wave that caused the formation of Reelfoot Lake by damming streams.

Recent news on the New Madrid Fault Zone:

From usatoday.com (from 12/12/2018)

How likely is an earthquake in the Midwest, South? The Big One could be coming

Some East Tennesseans got an early start to their Wednesday when an earthquake centered in Decatur rattled through the area.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The question is not if a massive earthquake will hit more than a half dozen states that border the Mississippi River but rather when it will happen.

A minor earthquake early Wednesday that centered on Decatur in East Tennessee about 60 miles southwest of Knoxville was felt in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

“A 4.4 magnitude earthquake is a reminder for people to be prepared,” said John Bobel, a public information officer for the division of emergency management in Kentucky’s Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. People see indoor objects shake with magnitude 4 to 4.9 quakes, but the quakes generally cause little to minimal damage.

Scientists have seen evidence that the central Mississippi River Valley has seen major earthquakes for more than 4,000 years.

On Dec. 16, 1811, the first of three major earthquakes and numerous aftershocks struck what is now known as the New Madrid Seismic Zone, a series of faults that stretch 150 miles from Cairo, Illinois, to Marked Tree, Arkansas.

Today the zone threatens Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. That’s a different set of faults than Wednesday’s quake in the East Tennessee Seismic Zone.

Back in 1811, New Madrid, Missouri, itself had only 400 people, St. Louis to the north had about 1,500 residents, and Memphis to the south wasn’t even a twinkle in its founders’ eyes, according to the Central United States Earthquake Consortium. Damage was reported as far away as Charleston, South Carolina, and the District of Columbia; and the quakes, estimated at 7.5 to 7.7 magnitude, were felt more than 1,000 miles away in Connecticut.

Today, an estimated 11 million people live in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, according to TransRe, a reinsurance company that essentially insures the property insurance companies.

“The big thing we prepare for is with New Madrid,” Bobel said. “Depending on the significance of an earthquake, Memphis, Tennessee, would be gone; St. Louis would be wrecked.”

Keep in mind, the New Madrid quakes of 1811 and 1812 were almost 2,000 times bigger than Wednesday’s 4.4 trembler and released almost 90,000 times more energy, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s earthquake calculator. The Feb. 7, 1812, quake formed 20-square-mile Reelfoot Lake, now a state park in West Tennessee.

That’s not as strong as the largest magnitude earthquake in U.S. history, the 9.2-magnitude Alaska earthquake of March 27, 1964. But the New Madrid quakes affected an area two to three times larger and 10 times larger than the April 18, 1906, San Francisco earthquake, which is now estimated as a 7.9 magnitude.

The New Madrid quakes affected a larger area because of the sedimentary rock in the Mississippi Valley, rock such as limestone, sandstone and shale that is made of compressed sediment. The granite of the West is better able to contain the shaking, according to Pennsylvania State University’s Earthquake Seismology Group.

So, what could a big quake look like in the fault zone today? Well, Bobel didn’t sugarcoat it. It would be bad.

“Anything west of I-65, infrastructure would be severely damaged,” Bobel said of the interstate that bisects Kentucky and Tennessee. “The ground could even liquify and turn to mud,” which happened in 1811 and 1812.

In a 7.7 magnitude earthquake along the New Madrid Fault, the Mid-America Earthquake Center at the University of Illinois estimated in 2008 that Tennessee would have the worst damage: 250,000 buildings moderately or severely damaged, more than 260,000 people displaced, significantly more than 60,000 injuries and fatalities, total direct economic losses surpassing $56 billion, $64 billion today when adjusted for inflation. Kentucky would have the next most significant damage, totaling $45 billion, $52 billion today.

Depending on the epicenter of such a quake, “areas within the NMSZ would experience widespread and catastrophic physical damage, negative social impacts, and economic losses,” the Federal Emergency Management Agency said in 2008. The agency remains concerned that adoption and enforcement of codes that would allow buildings to withstand a strong earthquake are spotty at best, and little retrofitting has occurred.

How likely is such a disaster?

Seismologists estimate that the New Madrid Seismic Zone has a 25 percent to 40 percent chance of producing a significant quake within the next 50 years, according to Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. USGS studies have concluded that the zone has generated magnitude 7 to 8 earthquakes about every 500 years for the past 1,200 years.

Prep your home

Remember, most earthquake injuries come from falling objects and debris, not the actual movement of the ground. To prepare your home, here are some tips from the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government:

  • Fasten shelves, mirrors, picture frames and similar objects securely to walls – preferably not over beds, sofas, or other places you may sit.
  • Secure tall furniture, such as bookcases and filing cabinets, to wall studs or masonry. Use flexible straps that will allow the furniture to sway without toppling. Also, secure expensive electronic devices such as televisions.
  • Secure appliances such as your refrigerator and water heater with straps connected to wall studs.
  • Store heavy or breakable objects on lower shelves or in cabinets with latched doors.
  • Have a professional assess your home’s structure for quake vulnerabilities, then repair or reinforce any damaged or weak points.

Brethren, I am praying that this fault zone will remain dormant for a very long time. But it is good to be aware of the possibility of its eruption. I think that the checklist of things to do beforehand is prudent.

Remember the events which have happened in the past when the fury of our God has been kindled by wicked people attempting to divide His land!

With Globalism looming over us and the Biden admin in power, we should expect threats to the nation of Israel.

GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED!

How Can I Be Saved?

Shalom B’Yeshua
