Recently, I was teaching a small group of prophecy lovers when I made the statement that our amazing God revealed prophecies 2,000 to 2,700 years ago that we see coming on the scene today. A friend with a wonderful sense of humor was in the group and he replied, “Yes, it’s enough to make you think that God has the gift of foreknowledge.” Right! By fulfilling ancient prophecies recorded in the Bible, God is demonstrating His foreknowledge. He is proving that He truly knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). This ability to reveal what will happen before it happens is incomprehensible to all of us, but it is indisputable proof of His existence; and it is also a statement that He keeps His promises AND He carries out His warnings. Many like to believe His promises, but they prefer to ignore His warnings.

A possible economic collapse is another thing we talked about in the group. God clearly said, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). He is God and He has a right to occupy first place in our lives. But, for far too long, Americans and globalists have made an idol or a god out of their money. Again and again, the Jews set up worthless idols in Old Testament times and God always destroyed them. Our economic problems are really a reminder that God has not changed. He is still God. He doesn’t like to be ignored, replaced or forgotten. Unless we change quickly, He is going to make our money a worthless idol.

While I am on the subject, I was discussing this with a female friend in the group. She loves Bible prophecy and is a wonderful Sunday school teacher. She reminded me that many worship the god of pleasure and society won’t do anything about it. God may be about to take their money away so they can’t spend it on adultery, pornography, abortions, alcohol, drugs and the like. That is another sign of the end of the age. Paul said, “Men shall be lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:4). God is not against pleasure. He even wants us to make Him our greatest pleasure. But He may have to bring humankind to the point of not being able to afford some of these wrongful pleasures. Having to choose between the necessities of life and pleasure will be a reminder to us that He is still God.

While writing the previous paragraph, it occurred to me that many in the environmental movement worship the god of nature. There is nothing wrong with nature─it was given by God. But nature is not god. And this may be why nature seems to be turning against us. We need to learn that nature can also be an enemy and when we die nature won’t be able to do anything for us. But the Creator of nature can. And He will, if we have accepted His Son.

Eh . . . yes, life is interesting and God is doing a lot of things. People need to be paying attention. One way or another, we are going to learn that there is only one God.

Habakkuk was praying about the rampaging sin and violence in Judah, but he didn’t think God was listening. He accused God of letting His Word slide, not listening, and exercising poor judgment. God eventually told him, “I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you” (Hab. 1:1-5). God would tell him what He planned to do (destroy Judah), but Habakkuk wouldn’t believe Him.

The Bible contains many incredible prophecies that some people refuse to believe. At the time they were given, many of these prophecies sounded impossible because the human mind cannot comprehend the power of God. But it didn’t matter whether Habakkuk believed what God said or not, Judah was destroyed. And it doesn’t matter whether we believe what He says or not, every prophecy in the Word of God will be literally fulfilled.

Concerning Israel, God asked, “Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once” (Isaiah 66:8)? The nation of Israel was out of existence longer than any other nation in history so multitudes refused to believe that Israel would ever come back into being. But it didn’t matter whether people believed it or not, Israel became a nation in one day on May 14, 1948.

Concerning the resurrection of dead, it is clearly predicted in the Old Testament books of Genesis, Job, Psalms, Isaiah, Daniel and Hosea. Jesus even said He would be “delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” But the faithful women who followed Him went to His grave in unbelief on the third day to anoint His body. And when they rushed to tell the eleven that He had been raised from the dead the eleven thought it was an idle tale. The resurrection of Jesus seemed unbelievable to His closest friends, but that didn’t keep it from happening.

Concerning the Roman Empire, 2600 years ago (before the Roman Empire even existed), Daniel prophesied that a kingdom (the Roman Empire) would come into being, it would eventually break-up and then it would come back into being again before the Second Coming of Jesus. This seemed unbelievable at the time, but the Roman Empire came into being, it broke up and it was out of existence for hundreds of years. Now, twenty-seven nations in Europe have re-united and surrendered their sovereignty without firing a shot. The unbelievers were wrong.

Concerning the Mark of the Beast, 2,000 years ago, the idea that a global leader (the Antichrist) would try to identify and mark everyone on earth shortly before the Second Coming of Jesus seemed unbelievable. But now, biometric ID cards, implanted chips, face scans, cameras, DNA tests, data bases and the like are turning this unbelievable prophecy into reality.

Concerning the tracking of all buying and selling, 2,000 years ago, the idea that a global leader (the Antichrist) could track the buying and selling of goods all over the earth shortly before the Second Coming of Jesus seemed unbelievable. But now, bar codes, barcode scanners, computers, the World Wide Web, digital banking and the like are making it possible.

Concerning the Two Witnesses, 2,000 years ago the idea that everyone on earth could see their bodies lying in the street of Jerusalem shortly before the Second Coming of Jesus seemed unbelievable. But now, electricity, rockets, satellites, TV cameras and TV sets are making it possible.

Concerning the idea that all flesh will be destroyed if Jesus doesn’t come back, 2,000 years ago, the idea that anyone could destroy everyone on earth seemed unbelievable. But now, nuclear, biological and chemical weapons have made it possible.

Concerning the sun and moon, 2,000 years ago the idea that the sun would be darkened and the moon would turn to blood shortly before the Second Coming of Jesus seemed unbelievable. But now NASA says there is a massive dark spot (called a coronal hole) about 5 or 6 times the size of Planet Earth at the north pole of the sun. They say dark spots on the sun are not unusual, but the great size of this one is unusual because it covers about one-fourth of the sun (incidentally, one-third of the sun and moon will be darkened when the fourth trumpet sounds). And now we are told that there will be a tetrad (four) blood moons on Jewish Feast Days in 2014 and 2015. Blood moons are not unusual, but a tetrad blood moons on Jewish Feast Days is unusual. Researchers say, there have been only six since the birth of Jesus and the next one, will be the only one this millennium (between 2,000 and 3,000 A.D.).

Why is this important? It is important because the Bible says there will be scoffers in the last days that won’t believe in the Second Coming. They will ignore the coming judgment of God and live the way they want to live. But the fulfillment of prophecies that once seemed unbelievable are signs, that the Word of God is true and we should believe it no matter how incredible it sounds.
