Jesus? His Own Didn’t Believe In Him:: by Clay Smith

Jewish People : Jesus? His Own Didn’t Believe In Him

Do you Believe in Him? Are you a child of God? There’s still time.

When Jesus began his ministry to bring salvation to the Jews and the Gentiles, the Scriptures state his own family didn’t believe, except Mary and Joseph, his parents. His four brothers and sisters refuted him and his teaching that day in the local synagogue, but that shouldn’t have been a surprise to them under the circumstances. Hey, our brother says He is the Messiah, the Anointed One, who brings salvation to the Jews. {Emphasis mine}

We read in the Gospel of Mark in chapter six where Jesus goes to his hometown of Nazareth soon after beginning His three-year ministry, despite the tensions with his natural family. He had just come out of the wilderness where Satan tempted him for forty days and begins to start teaching in the local and regional synagogues of Galilee.

Of course, his twelve disciples that he chose are with him when he arrives in Nazareth, his hometown. There, he enters the synagogue on the Sabbath day; many Jews were there as we can see. Jesus had always taught in the synagogues since a young boy, but this time was different. Those that heard him were astonished at the wisdom and the boldness in which he was reciting as He stood in front of them. He definitely had their attention. We find this in the Gospel of Mark 6:1-6, because He announced that Scripture was being fulfilled that day.

This probably ties in with the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 4:16-27, which is alluding to Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.”

Jesus was profoundly stating that He was the Messiah which was prophesied in the Old Testament that the Jewish people were looking for.

They know He is the carpenter, the son of Mary, and his four brothers and sisters that are with them are appalled that He would dare to proclaim such things from the sacred writings. His own siblings didn’t believe in him, and the Jews didn’t like the pronounced prophecy either; so Jesus was escorted immediately outside to be thrown off the cliff to be killed. This was blasphemy. The Scripture says he passed through them, and after healing a few sick folk, he left Nazareth to go to other area villages.

We read in Mark 6:6: “And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went around about the villages, teaching.”

Where do you stand in believing in this Jesus that I am writing about? Do you know Him? I like to ask people: do you know Him or know of Him? Their eternity with yours hangs in the balance with that question – eternal life with Jesus in His heavenly Kingdom, or eternal separation from God and His Heaven.

The Bible is the Word of God in its entirety and about Him, the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus came not only for the Jewish people (then and now) but for the Gentiles as well. Does Jesus marvel of your unbelief? I do, if you are not saved by His Blood that he shed on the cross that day.

Back then, the Jewish people had only the Old Testament writings. Today, we have the complete Word of God, and there is no excuse for not reading the Bible that gives all the Scriptures showing Jesus is the Messiah for all people.

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

This is still the Age of Grace, and there is still “room at the cross for All.”

Revelation 1:8 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”

Nothing or no one is going to change that. Jesus Christ is coming back to get “his own,” and that could be imminent, or very soon. There is only One Lord, One Faith, One Saviour, One Messiah that is necessary, and His Name is Jesus Christ (Yeshua).

Each person has a choice to decide whom he or she will serve. When it comes to where you should want to spend eternity, it’s in Christ alone.

A few people in the region then believed on Christ and the miracles He and his disciples did during that time. He was the Messiah the Jewish people were hoping for. They expected him to deliver them from the Roman occupation and tyranny they were under, but Jesus came for a different reason altogether. He came to deliver them from their sins so they could inherit eternal life in His Kingdom.

Jesus told them that the Kingdom of God was at hand; repent and believe the Gospel. He was and is still the Gospel. Gospel means Good News. That still applies today, friend, and is still available. The clock is ticking, and when your time is up here on good ole terra firma, that’s it. There is no second chance. What happens after that? Your body is dead and goes to the dust. But your spirit and soul continue on to the destination you have willfully chosen.

You are not complete yet here without Christ as your Saviour. You can be made whole, spiritually. That will take place when you receive Jesus in your heart and place your faith and trust in Him.

Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Look at the sand in the proverbial hour glass. The sand is running out, but you can’t see where it’s at. Only God knows that time.

Isaiah 55:6 “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.”

We marvel that Jesus’ own brothers and sisters didn’t believe at that time when he first started his ministry. James and Jude became believers later and wrote the books (which were inspired by the Holy Spirit, as were the other 24 in the New Testament) that were named after them. I pray that you make that decision for Christ and then get baptized as commanded by Him. If you don’t have a Bible, get a King James and start reading in the Gospel of John. Find a church and attend where the true Bible is being taught, and start growing in Christ and His Word.

I will be praying for you. Start living for Jesus and focus on Him and how He can use you to serve Him.
