What Should Christians Be Doing? :: 7

By Jim Whitesell

1. Assess your relationship to God. Have you publicly accepted Jesus as your Savior and been baptized? If not, stop here and commit your life to Jesus. If you have already committed your life to serving Christ then continue to item 2.

2. Assess your relationship with those that you love. Do you have anything that you are angry about or hold against your loved ones? If so, fix the problem and continue with the list.

3. Assess your Relationship with your Neighbor. Do you know them, get along with them and pray for them? If not, start doing so if at all possible.

4. Assess your relationship with your church. Are you involved in a Christ centered, Bible believing local church? If not, then try to find one.

5.Assess your treasures. Are you giving to local, regional, national and/or worldwide Christian missions that proclaim Jesus as the Christ?

6. Assess your Time. Do you give of your free time to your 1) Local church, 2) Your family, 3) local Christian school, 3) local Community?

7. Assess your Talents. Every Christian has at least one gift given to them by God. Are you using your gift to encourage the faithful and to reach the lost?

8. Assess your prayer life. Jesus called every Christian to a life of prayer. We are to pray without ceasing. A simple suggestion: I challenge every Christian father to pray quietly with his family before each meal including each and every time his family goes out to eat at a public restaurant. Imagine what a witness it would be to the world if Christian families were seen praying in public places. It may be hard for you to do at first, but I will guarantee that the food will taste better.

9.Assess the amount of time you spend reading God’s Word. How do you know what God is like unless you spend time getting to know Him by reading Scripture.

10. Now go and do! After all of this self assessment, it is time to “go and do” what God has asked us to do, to help fulfill the Great Commission:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20 NIV).

1. Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ, and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:4-5).

2. Remember that the Bible is the infallible inerrant word of God, regardless of what anyone says. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

3. Always remember, “Jesus is the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me” (John 14:6). Be sure you are doing all you can to keep others from going to hell.

4. Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. (Luke 18:1). Pray always!

5. Be  on the watch at all times and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).                                   Be holy even as your Father in heaven is holy.

6. Know that Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured (Colossians 4:12).

7. “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth the distress of nations, with great perplexity, over the sea and the roaring of the waves” (Luke 21:25). Be ever watching the signs of the times.

8. “If therefore you do not watch I will come on you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you Revelation” (3:3). Always remain watching.

9. Humble yourselves daily before the Lord. For He stated “If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). America is becoming more and more anti-Christian. What are you doing to stop it from spreading?

10. Read the Bible daily. Stay in His Word and always put on the full armor of God. “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13).
