An order issued by Lucas County Regional Board of Health mandated that “education for Grades 7-12 (or 9 to 12 depending on school configuration) will be virtual from Dec 4th until Jan 11th” to prevent spread of COVID-19. The order exempts elementary schools without explaining why. “If you’re interested in playing a couple of hands of blackjack, just wear a mask, observe social distancing protocols, and good luck! If, however, you’re interested in preparing 11th graders for the SAT (or life after high school), your only option is to roll the dice with remote learning,” lawyer Brian Fox wrote in a letter to the Lucas County Health Commissioner. Fox noted that leading health experts do not see in-person education as a significant contributor to the spread of COVID-19.

No evidence coronavirus has mutated to become more infectious. Many places are planning to ask patients to voluntarily provide a cell phone number so they can get a text message telling them when and where their next dose is scheduled.

Every dose administered will be reported to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The announcement comes less than two weeks after the UK government proposed “freedom passes” in order to reboot their economy – which would seemingly allow those willing to vaccinate a return to normal life. It also comes after signs of industries adapting to a future of immunity cards and vaccinations – with Ticketmaster and Quantas airlines both announcing they will require proof of vaccination before people can attend concerts or fly.

At least three people lost their lives while two others remain missing after severe storms hit the Italian island of Sardinia, triggering massive floods and landslides on Nov 27-28. Meanwhile, a rare November tornado caused damage to Catania Airport in Sicily on Nov 28.

Worst flood in 50 years affects more than 500,000 people in southern Thailand. Widespread, severe flooding has killed at least nine people and affected 210,000 households or more than half a million people.

Major flooding leaves 5 dead, 6,000 people affected in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Heavy rainfall since Thursday night, Dec 3, has caused four rivers to burst, flooding nearby houses and streets.
