EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS

The Extreme Weather in the US Is So Severe, Even Weather Satellites Are Bewildered. On Tuesday, the cold air advancing south from the Arctic chilled the ground so much that one monitoring satellite mistook the ground for tops of clouds, which are usually much colder than surface temperatures.

Brutal Polar Vortex in the U.S. At least 2,400 cold temperature records broken or tied in the U.S. from February 12-16. Over just the past week, much of the U.S. Lower 48 has been punished with record-breaking cold and unusually heavy snow and ice from Winter Storm Uri. Another winter storm late in the week, Winter Storm Viola, affected the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Temperatures were 40-50 °F (22-28 °C) below average over a large portion of the central and southern Plains. At the peak of the cold, over 5 million homes were without power, most of them in Texas. Over 30 people have lost their lives.

Four reports of tornadoes in the U.S. in the wake of Storm Uri. An EF3 with winds up to 160 mph killed 3 and injured 10 in North Carolina. 50 homes were affected. Also, homes were destroyed and one person was injured in Georgia. Three people were injured in Florida.

The western U.S. is in the grip of a once-in-a-lifetime drought that is threatening millions of acres of farmland and rangeland, drying up streams and creeks and forcing people to think about alternative landscaping choices that don’t suck up so much water.

On Edge Emotionally: In a Rural U.S. Eastern Plains Community Plagued by Drought. In August, this 1,300-person community bordering on Kansas was the first part of Colorado where drought conditions surpassed “extreme” to a level meteorologists call “exceptional.” That designation – which since has hit wide swaths of the West Slope – stands out on the drought map as a big brown pock. Week after rainless week throughout this year’s growing season, it festered like a wound not just on local farmland, but also on the emotional landscape.

Historic snowstorm left 3 dead in Greece on Tuesday. It was the country’s ‘fiercest’ snowfall in terms of intensity and volume since 2008.

Heavy snowfall, gales as winter storm hits Middle East. Snow blanketed parts of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Israel on Wednesday, covering areas it has not reached in years.

Severe snowstorm northern Japan. The snowstorm began Tuesday, causing flooding and transport disruptions. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned it could become the most powerful blizzard in years and cause whiteout conditions through Wednesday, February 17.

Weeks of heavy rains have left over 30 fatalities in South Africa since January 23 when Tropical Cyclone “Eloise” swept over the region.

Three Major Earthquakes in Three Days Causes Concern. The world was taken by surprise when three major earthquakes shook the Earth within 72 hours: a 7.7 undersea quake north of New Zealand on Feb 11; a 6.3 hit several states in India on Feb 12; and a 7.1 in Japan on Feb 13. Senior geologists stress having a disaster management plan to deal with any emergency, as it’s not possible to predict quakes.

Several strong and shallow earthquakes hit off the coast of Vanuatu between Feb 15 and 16, registering between 4.9 and 6.2.

Gay Worship Artist Grace Semler Baldridge Reaches Number One Christian Music Spot on iTunes. Grace Baldridge, who goes by the stage name Semler, hit number one. This is unsurprising as homosexuals have been pushing a “gay Christian” movement within every denomination from rank heresy-toting liberals to even the more conservative denominations like the Southern Baptist Convention and the Presbyterian Church (PCA). Such movements, including Revoice and Living Out, have normalized homosexuality and served to remove the stigma from pew-sitters claiming to be Christian yet are openly gay whether practicing or claiming to be celibate.

House Democrats push for taxpayer funding of abortion industry in COVID-19 relief bill. $750 million for ‘global health activities,’ billions for ‘community health centers,’ and a “$50 million increase in Title X funding (a program Biden reinstated, removing Trump’s Protect Life Rule). Title X would again be an abortion business slush fund. Dems also plan to expand taxpayer-funded abortion via Obamacare, etc., in the Covid relief bill. Satanist group commissions 40 foot ‘Abortion Saves Lives’ billboard. This one is on the interstate in Garland, Texas. According to Lucien Greaves (as he calls himself) of the Satanic Temple, two similar billboards have been erected in Houston and Miami, Florida.

Planned Parenthood Newsletter: They Need to Kill More Babies in Abortions, “Build More Volume.” A Planned Parenthood affiliate in Pennsylvania spoke of “building volume” in abortion. This raises a number of questions, beginning with: If, as abortion advocates claim, abortion is an answer to a health care crisis, how could you work to build volume in abortion? Abortion isn’t a healthcare solution but the taking of an innocent human life. And each abortion boosts the revenue of Planned Parenthood facilities. The newsletter went on to  say, “we need to get to…over 8,000 abortion visits.” But if Planned Parenthood is not interested in profit, why must it perform a certain number of abortions?

The bill they were to vote on would’ve banned most abortions after the unborn baby’s heartbeat is detected. You know, like a civil society might do. God help us! CNN is angry that Trump was acquitted by the Senate and, like any good lynch mob, they’re now going after Trump’s lawyers to get their pound of flesh, trying to get the lawyers ‘impeached’, so that they never work again as lawyers. McConnell ‘put a load on Republicans’ back’ with anti-Trump speech. Senator Lindsey Graham warns McConnell’s words will be used against Republican candidates in 2022. He also said he believes the (attempted) impeachment set a dangerous precedent. “I don’t know how Kamala Harris doesn’t get impeached if Republicans take over the House, because she actually bailed out rioters, and one of the rioters went back to the streets and broke somebody’s head open,” Graham said. “So we’ve opened Pandora’s box here, and I’m sad for the country.”

At least 15 dead as U.S. sees deadliest week of avalanches in over a century. It included avalanches from Jan 30 to Feb 6 in Alaska, California, Colorado, Montana, New Hampshire, and Utah.

India Avalanche. At least 38 people are known dead and 171 are missing. Rescuers continue to search on for 35 men trapped in a tunnel, though hopes of finding anyone alive are fading.

Severe floods, landslides leave 39,100 homes damaged, 63,700 people displaced and 4 dead in Java, Indonesia. Heavy rainfall began falling Feb 4, causing floods and landslides in 8 regencies by Feb 7.

Major Snowstorm Darcy hits Netherlands, Germany, and UK. Dutch authorities declared a rare ‘code red’ on Feb 7 as the severe snowstorm hit parts of Europe. This was the first major snowstorm in the Netherlands in a decade. In the UK, the storm was called “The Beast from the East 2.” Parts of Germany were also affected, disrupting road, rail, and air traffic.

The Irish sea turned to ice and the Thames froze for first time in 60 years after temps in Britain plunged to record lows. The cold snap is set to continue.

Rare Snowfall Hits Maui for Fourth Year in a row. While snow occurs almost every year on higher elevations of Hawaii, snow in Maui is a much rarer sight, averaging once every 5 years. However, 2021 is the fourth year in a row. The 2019 dusting was the archipelago’s lowest elevation snowfall ever.

Russia: Moscow braces for record-breaking ‘snowpocalypse.’ The storm began early Friday and was expected to last until Sunday. A spokeswoman for the meteorological service said the storm is a continuation of the “Beast from the East” that has swept across Europe this past week. The agency predicts snowfall in Moscow to total up to around 40 centimeters (16 inches).

GREAT EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERSE PLACES

Two undersea earthquakes: one a 7.7, prompting warnings for South Pacific islands, New Zealand and Australia’s Lord Howe Island. The first, a 5.6, hit Wednesday, followed an hour later by a 7.7.

Philippines earthquakes: A 6.3 earthquake struck last Sunday. Reuters reported that there were damages. This was followed by a 5.7 earthquake offshore on Monday.

Taiwan hit by 5.5, 5.7 earthquakes 2 minutes apart. The second generated more powerful shockwaves.

7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Struck the South Pacific Ocean on Wednesday. Prior to this, a 6.2 quake struck the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

6.3 earthquake jolts Tajikistan; tremors felt in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The area of the epicenter is largely unpopulated mountain terrain.

The court established to prevent atrocities like the Nazi Holocaust against the Jewish people is now targeting the one state of the Jewish people.”

Iran reinstated its nuclear enrichment at Fordo and raised its enrichment level to 20% at the drop of a hat. If it turns the switches off to get sanctions relief, it can turn them right back on after the money starts flowing. On Monday, Iran tested the Zuljanah rocket whose thrust is far more than required to launch a satellite into orbit; it’s more comparable to an intercontinental ballistic missile. 35% of Iran’s population is utterly destitute with food prices rising steeply. But the regime chooses ballistic missiles over feeding its people.
