Masked moviegoers interrupt showing of ‘No Safe Spaces’ documentary; police called

Police officers responded to a call on Friday when Adam Carolla and Dennis Prager’s free-speech film, “No Safe Spaces,” was allegedly interrupted by two masked men who some customers felt were looking to intimidate moviegoers.

The filmmakers are chalking up the incident to evidence as to why the movie is important in the first place.

The La Habra, California, police department sent officers to the local Regal Theater after receiving a call that two male subjects who entered the movie theater for the 1:10 p.m. showing had covered their faces with bandanas.

“After all of the previews and ads were over and the movie was just starting, two thugs sporting hoodies, masks, sunglasses and carrying huge duffel bags, ran, not walked, up the aisle and sat at the back of the theater right behind us. They looked like bank robbers, home invasion criminals… they were trying to act scary,” a moviegoer named Vanessa, who asked for her last name not be used, told Fox News.

“As you can imagine, I was nervous that they were planning something even more nefarious than just visual intimidation,” Vanessa said.

Vanessa and other moviegoers complained to the theater and called the police. She said she was issued a refund and left.

“When the manager went in to check on them, they had removed all intimidating items. They knew what they were doing,” Vanessa said. “Potential criminals got to stay while we had to leave because we were afraid they might do something violent. My son did not want to leave because he didn’t want them to succeed in their plan of intimidation and free-speech suppression. But I told him a movie was not worth our lives in case they had weapons or something.”

The La Habra police department confirmed to Fox News that they arrived on the scene after receiving a call about two men interrupting the film, but said no incident report was made. It’s unclear if the alleged troublemakers were trying to purposely disrupt the pro-free-speech film for political reasons.

“They came full sprint to the top of the theater with bandanas on their face,” another attendee, Scott Stroud, confirmed to Fox News.

Stroud said that he pressured management to call the police, and they eventually obliged after initially downplaying the situation and assuring that the backpacks of the men were searched. Stroud said he explained the subject matter of the movie to theater workers in an effort to be taken seriously.

Stroud said police told him theater management didn’t think it was necessary to investigate further, but he disagrees.

“Common sense says you would want to question them,” Stroud said.

The La Habra police department declined to say why a report wasn’t filed.

“This story is quite angering, and an example of what is happening increasingly in America. I urge Americans to be courageous. It took courage for us to make this movie; and now, apparently, it’s going to take courage for Americans to watch it,” the film’s co-star Dennis Prager told Fox News. “America is the safe space in which we are supposed to be free to hear different ideas, including the ideas in this film, without fear of reprisal, and certainly without fear of physical harm.”

The documentary, which Prager has called a “wake-up call” to the American people, focuses on free speech being restricted to satisfy political agendas.

“If I know anything about my fellow Americans, it is that we are not easily frightened by thugs. I urge America to reject the fear that these incidents are designed to engender; be courageous, and go see our movie in a theater. This incident is exactly why this movie is so important,” Prager said.

A rep for the film told Fox News that the people affected have been given tickets to another screening.

“We were very disappointed to hear that our fans were subjected to this and have asked our partners at Regal to look into the matter. We’re also asking the police department for a full investigation,” said Alfred Hopton, publicist for “No Safe Spaces.”

“We know that Regal values our fans as much as we do and that they share our view that people should be able to enjoy a movie without feeling that they are in danger of being physically harmed.”

Regal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“We trust that nobody will be intimidated by events like this, and we’re confident that all of our theatrical partners will continue to make sure that all steps are taken to ensure the physical safety of our moviegoers,” Hopton added.

Moviegoers flock to free speech doc ‘No Safe Spaces’ despite panning from mainstream critics

Adam Carolla and Dennis Prager’s film, “No Safe Spaces,” has been praised by audiences, but professional critics don’t seem as enthusiastic about the documentary that explores the ongoing threat to the First Amendment.

As of Monday morning, review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes indicated that only 45 percent of critics praised “No Safe Spaces,” compared to a whopping 99 percent of paying customers who celebrated the film.

The documentary, which Prager has called a “wake-up call” to the American people, focuses on free speech being trampled on to satisfy political agendas.

Critics have described the film as “a conservative ‘free speech’ circle smirk,” “long-winded,” “obnoxious” and “paranoid whining.” However, verified audience members who aren’t paid to write reviews appear to love it.

“Refreshing to see a pro American movie. Brings the essence of what America was once about, freedom and equality which is now disappearing rapidly,” one member of the audience wrote. Another added: “It told exactly what is happening right now in our country!”

“No Safe Spaces” features commentary from a variety of Hollywood actors, scholars, academics, political figures, and media members across the political spectrum, including Van Jones, Alan Dershowitz, Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin, Cornel West, and Tim Allen.

Donald Trump Jr. praised the film, too, and even suggested that Carolla and Prager could fix ongoing issues in California.

“I think the best way to fight back would be to have you and Adam run for governor and lieutenant governor of the People’s Republic of California,” Trump Jr. told Prager on his radio show last week.

“No Safe Spaces” initially opened in Phoenix with the second-highest ever box office gross for a documentary playing on just one screen. “No Safe Spaces,” which opened in limited release on Oct. 25, expanded over the weekend to a variety of major cities, including Sacramento, Minneapolis, Fresno, Kansas City and San Antonio.

Now playing in additional markets, the per-screen average was $3,542, up 50 percent compared to the previous weekend, according to the film’s distributor.

“We are grateful for everyone giving us so much support as we take this movie into more theaters across America,” Carolla told Fox news.

“No Safe Spaces” will open nationwide on December 6.  source

I noticed in the trailer that people like myself were warned that we will be banned from social media.  That may very well happen.

But it will literally take duct tape or a gag to shut me up. I will gladly go to jail for upholding our First Amendment right!

From Loneliness to Despair :: By Geri Ungurean

There have been times in the past six years when I have felt to open myself up to my readers, regardless of ridicule or unkind responses.

This is one of those times.

I was talking with a sister in Christ today about how I was feeling. I can be myself with this sister. She never judges, and she is a great listener. When I told her how I was feeling, she said to me that I would not believe how many Christians have written to her, expressing these same feelings.

Loneliness

I wrote not too long ago about the Loneliness of the Christian in these last days. I must say that I did not expect the number of emails about that article; mostly women telling me how they were struggling with this like never before.

Many thanked me for my honesty. I was glad that I wrote what was in my heart.

Depression

I have written many times that I have struggled with depression since childhood. I wouldn’t call it clinical depression – perhaps situational depression would be better.

Things that I’ve loved to do became more of a chore. Even my writing, which is my favorite thing to do for the Lord, I have questioned whether it might be coming to an end. But that didn’t make any sense to me. If anything, I would think that my writing would be even more important in these dark days.

I would pray to the Lord that if He wanted me to write, that He would let me know what that was. I heard nothing. This is the first time that this has happened in many years.

Mornings

Ordinarily, I would open up my eyes in the morning and would feel energized and ready to do whatever the Lord would have me do. But not recently. Now, I open my eyes and wonder if I can even make it through another day.

A Terrible Confession

As my depression seemed to turn into total despair, I have actually gotten on my knees and asked the Lord if He would take me home. I’m sorry if this sounds very selfish, but I am opening up my heart and emotions to the reader. I must write how I am feeling.

Some of you may think “She should be stronger” or “She should be encouraging us.” Maybe this is a request for prayer – I just don’t know. But I think that Jesus wanted me to tell you just how low I have sunk.

I would never take my own life. NEVER. But asking Jesus to take me home is not suicidal. It is telling the One I love more than anyone in the world that I think that I’m at the end of my rope.

Smile and be Happy, Right?

I remember a woman in one of the first churches I ever attended, saw me in the hallway and asked what was wrong. I was not aware that my face reflected how I was feeling. I didn’t say much except that I felt a little down.

This woman gave me a lecture that Christians are supposed to smile even if we are dying on the inside. I asked her if that was not being disingenuous to put on the smile. She said that Jesus wants us to do this.

The Wickedness of this World

It really does not take very much digging to see that this world is NOTHING like it was when we were growing up. Sometimes it actually takes my breath away. Children in schools being taught the most obscene and disgusting things. Drag Queens reading to our children and the parents of those children acting like they are doing such a wonderful thing for their kids. It’s hard to even take this in.

What Happened to my Children?

Really – what happened to my three beautiful children who only wanted to hear Bible stories, and sing Christian songs, and draw pictures of Jesus and the Cross. What happened to them?

I went through a time when I blamed myself. Certainly, it had to be something I did. My children are grown now with children of their own. They laugh and view me as a Jesus Freak. They don’t know why I take this so seriously. They say that they don’t even believe there is a God.

To say this breaks my heart is a gross understatement. If any of the readers have gone through this, have you met families who project that everything with their children is so perfect – everyone is saved and everything is just as it should be?

Maybe there are perfect Christian families. They are so blessed if it’s true.

Brethren, thank you for taking the time to read what is happening in my heart. I’m really not sure, if I do get responses, what those will be. But you know, that doesn’t really matter.

I feel so much better having written this piece.

This I know: God is good ALL the time; and ALL the time God is good.

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

“I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Psalm 42:5-11, KJV).
