A Christmas Story Told by Paul Harvey :: By Geri Ungurean

When my husband and I watch a movie or series, when the protagonist is suddenly deep in thought, we say to one another “The light bulb look.” In other words, especially if it is a mystery, we realize that the character has figured it out.

I came across a beautiful story on an old Paul Harvey radio broadcast. He spoke of searching for the author of this amazing story, but to no avail.

Here is the story called:

“The Man and the Birds:  A Christmas Story”   < click here to listen

From Townhall.com

Paul Harvey may very well have been one of the twentieth century’s greatest gifts to broadcasting. His demeanor, his voice, and above all else his collected wit graced the airwaves all across America. On or near Christmas, every year, Harvey shared with his listeners an essay. The words, Harvey openly confessed, were not his own. For years he, and his family, searched for the original author… But they never were able to trace its parentage.

In his own words, Harvey once observed that “maybe, some essays are just not supposed to have an acknowledged author.” Here is the paraphrased version of the essay that so many of us remember Harvey sharing with America:

Our protagonist is not a scrooge. In fact he was a kind, and quite decent, mostly good man. Honest in his dealings and generous to his family, he was commonly received as a man of good values.

But, he could never bring himself to believe the story of Christ. The incarnation, the God born a man by virgin birth… It just didn’t make sense to him, and he was too honest a man to feign devotion to a story he could not accept. The story of Jesus, God coming to Earth as a man, simply didn’t add up in his mind.

And so one Christmas, feeling his pretense of devotion had thoroughly run its course, he told his wife he would not be going with the family to Church.

“I’m sorry to upset you,” he explained, “but I would simply feel like a hypocrite.” He told her that he would stay at home, and wait for them to return from Midnight Mass.

Shortly after the family had left, a snowstorm moved into the area. Settling in his chair with a cup of coffee, the man began to relax for the evening.

Before too long, the soft white noise of the steady snow was interrupted by a loud thud. Then another, and another. At first the man concluded someone must have been throwing snowballs against his living room window, but upon peering out from behind the blinds his yard appeared quite empty.

Reluctantly venturing outside, he found a flock of birds huddled miserably in the falling snow, just beneath his living room window. Having been caught in the storm, the desperate birds were trying in vain to fly through the large landscape window.

Being the decent man that he was, he knew he couldn’t leave the stranded birds to freeze in the night storm, and resolved to find a solution. It was just then that he thought of the barn where his children stabled their pony. It would be warm, sheltered, and safe… If he could get the birds into it. Thinking that food might entice them, he hurried back to the house and retrieved some bread crumbs. Sprinkling the crumbs in the snow, the man made a trail to the warmly lit doorway of the stable.

But still, the birds vainly fought the cold beneath his living room window.

He tried catching them. He tried shooing them into the barn by waving his arms and walking around them. But nothing worked. As he approached, they scattered in almost every direction, and as soon as he retreated back, they resumed their hopeless attempts to fly through his living room window.

The man realized that the birds were simply too afraid of him. To them, after all, he was a giant and terrifying creature. ‘If only I could think of some way to let them know that they can trust me – that I’m not trying to hurt them. But how?”

Any move he made simply confused, and frightened them.

“If only I could let them know I want them to be safe,” he said aloud. “If only I could be a bird, and mingle with them and speak their language, I could let them know that I mean them no harm. I could show them the way to the safe warm barn, but…” realization seemed to wash over him, “but I guess I would have to be one of them; so that they could see, and hear, and understand.”

At that moment the church bells began to ring through the dense cold. He stood there listening to the bells, Adeste Fidelis. Listening to the bells pealing the glad tidings of Christmas. And he sank to his knees in the snow.

Merry Christmas.  source

Wasn’t this truly amazing, brethren?  The picture in my mind of the man’s expression when he had the “Light bulb look” will stay in my mind forever.

I hope and pray that you had a joyous and blessed Christmas! And I do hope that you enjoyed this classic Christmas Story which Paul Harvey loved to tell.

Pastor Says Trump Damaging to Gospel & Church :: By Geri Ungurean

But wait – Earlier this year, Joshua Harris (a well-known pastor) left his church, wife and faith in Jesus Christ! How he had the audacity to make this judgment against Evangelicals who support our president is beyond me!

Can you say HYPOCRITE??

I mean, REALLY, Joshua Harris – did you really say this? Unbelievable!

So, the man who wrote I Kissed Dating Goodbye when he was 21 and pastored a Megachurch in Maryland for many years, but who also left his church, wife and faith in Christ behind – has the audacity to say this:

“SUPPORTING TRUMP HAS BEEN ‘INCREDIBLY DAMAGING TO THE GOSPEL AND CHURCH”

From Newsweek.com  (My comments bolded)

A former megachurch pastor told Axios in a recent interview that the substantial support President Donald Trump has been receiving from evangelicals across the country has been “incredibly damaging to the Gospel and the church.”

So Joshua, you don’t think that the evils of this world – Abortion, Gay Marriage, Drag Queens (who are sexual predators) reading to small children in libraries across our country – had anything to do with “True Christians” aligning themselves with President Trump? This is NOT rocket science. Also, Trump’s relationship with Israel and the incredible things he has done for Israel – you don’t understand why Remnant Christians would support him? Oh, wait; you were never a Remnant Christian.

In July, Joshua Harris, a leader in the Christian purity movement who wrote the book I Kissed Dating Goodbye as a 21-year-old, wrote in an Instagram post that he has “undergone a massive shift in regard to my faith in Jesus.”

So, Joshua, please tell us this: WHY should we trust anything you say when you walked away from Jesus Christ and told the WORLD that you were no longer a Christian? Did you feel that you had not done enough damage to the body of Christ?

“The popular phrase for this is ‘deconstruction’; the biblical phrase is ‘falling away,’” he added. “By all the measurements that I have for defining a Christian, I am not a Christian.”

Well, you said that right.

Speaking to Mike Allen in a recent interview for Axios on HBO, Harris confirmed that he thinks the church made a mistake by becoming so identified with Trump.

Oh, so you want Christians to be aligned with the party of atheists (Dems) who “boo” God at their conventions, right?

“I think it’s incredibly damaging to the Gospel and to the church,” he said. “I don’t think it’s going to end well. And I think you look back at the Old Testament and the relationship between the prophet and really bad leaders and kings, and oftentimes it’s not something you unwind because it’s actually in the scriptures presented as God’s judgment on the false religion of the day.”

If I sound angry, it’s because I am. This man speaks of damage to the church and to the Gospel and calls the Christians who have supported President Trump a “False Religion.”  Now brethren, keep in mind the damage this man did to his wife, his church and to the Body of Christ!

When asked by Allen whether he thinks “Christians today who embrace President Trump are due for a judgment,” Harris responded, “I think that is the judgment.”

No, Joshua. I’ll tell you what the Judgment is. You will stand before the Great White Throne Judgment, and your name will NOT be found in the Book of Life. That means that the Judgment which will be passed on you will be eternity in Hell. THAT is the judgment, Joshua.

“To have a leader like Trump, I think is in itself part of the indictment that this is the leader that you want and maybe deserve,” he added. “That represents a lot of who you are.”

Joshua, you continue to shock me, and I’m sure other Christians who are reading this are just as shocked. It is absolutely unbelievable that you have the nerve to speak about President Trump in this manner when you have done the most abominable things during this past year!!

Harris, the son of Christian homeschooling pioneers Gregg and Sono Harris, served in the Covenant Life Church as a pastor from 2004 to 2015. In his lengthy July Instagram post, he walked back some of his devout views and apologized to communities that his past teachings might have harmed.

“To the LGBTQ+ community, I want to say that I am sorry for the views that I taught in my books and as a pastor regarding sexuality,” he wrote. “I regret standing against marriage equality, for not affirming you and your place in the church, and for any ways that my writing and speaking contributed to a culture of exclusion and bigotry. I hope you can forgive me.”

So, Joshua – you are apologizing to the gay community but you couldn’t care less about the church members who were devastated when you left them and told them you were no longer a Christian?

Brethren, we should pray for this man. Personally, I question whether he was ever saved. The arm of our God is certainly not too short to reach Joshua.

He also confirmed he divorced his wife, a move that was later criticized by evangelical activist Mike Farris in an op-ed for Christian Post. “You have walked away from your faith in Christ,” he wrote. “That’s even worse.” source

And to Mike Farris I say AMEN and AMEN.
