Liberman: Gaza citizens are being held hostages by Hamas on behalf of Iran
Hamas is holding Gaza residents hostage on behalf of Iran, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said in an Arabic Facebook post in which he appealed to Palestinians to overthrow Hamas’ rule of the small enclave. “I call on you, residents of Gaza: Act against the extremist leadership that has taken you hostage in the service of the Iranian Ayatollahs,” Liberman said.

Netanyahu: Hamas should expect a ‘very painful’ response from Israel If Hamas does not stop its violent attacks against Israel, then Israel will stop them through forceful actions, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned… Commenting on the increase in violence along the border fence with Gaza, Netanyahu said that “Hamas has apparently not internalized the message – if they don’t stop the violent attacks against us, they will be stopped in a different way and it will be painful, very painful.”

Jewish immigration to Israel fell slightly in the first eight months of 2018 over the corresponding period last year, despite a 35 percent increase from Russia. The 1 percent overall drop owed to a decrease in immigration from countries with major Jewish populations, notably France and the United States, an interim report by the Jewish Agency for Israel showed.

Storm Leslie: Portugal hit by hurricane-force winds
Hurricane-force winds have struck central and northern Portugal, leaving 300,000 homes without power. The remnants of Hurricane Leslie swept in overnight on Saturday, with winds gusting up to 176km/h (109mph).
