A magnitude-7.0 earthquake has hit the Indonesian resort island of Lombok, killing 91 people. The earthquake struck at 6:46 p.m. local time on Sunday and damaged buildings 150 kilometers (93 miles) away in Denpasar, Bali. A spokesperson for BNPB, Indonesia’s disaster relief body, confirmed on Monday that the death toll had risen to 91 people and said that 209 people were severely injured.

Emergency services in Portugal continued their fight Monday against a major, four-day wildfire on the south coast that threatened to engulf a hillside town overnight. A 72-year-old woman was seriously hurt. Authorities said that more than 1,100 firefighters with 327 vehicles and eight aircraft were battling the blaze that erupted amid a heatwave caused by a mass of hot air from North Africa.

ISIS forces in Syria executed one of the hostages they took with them from the city of Sweida when they attacked it last week, Syrian media reported today. The victim was identified as Muhannad Touqan Abu Amar, age 19. The ISIS attack on Sweida – held by Bashir Assad’s forces – took place on July 25. The organization’s terrorists occupied villages and carried out suicide attacks inside Sweida, killing more than 200 people, many of them unarmed civilians.
