murder-tlThroughout history there has been a series of mass murders that have occurred. Below is a list from the early 1900’s to the present time of the mass murders that have taken place and the details about them.


July 1914
Simone Pianetti took his rifle and shot and killed 7 people. Upon his attempt to be captured by the Carabinieri he ran off into the mountains and was never seen again and a body was never found.May 18, 1927: The Bath School disaster is the name given to three bombings set off by Andrew Kehoe; in Bath Township, Michigan. A total of 38 students and 7 adults were killed; with at least 58 people were injured. The incident still stands as the deadliest mass murder in a school in U.S. history.

May 1938
In a rural village close to Tsuyama City in Okayama, Japan the Tsuyama Massacre took place. The massacre resulted in the deaths of 30 people and the serious injury of three. The event was conducted by a man known as Mutsuo Toi.

Sept. 1949
Howard Unruh left his house for a twelve minute walk around his Camden, New Jersey neighborhood, shooting people at random and killing 13.

Jan. 1958
Charlie Starkweather & Caril Ann Fugate went on a gunning spree after killing Caril’s parents and sister. The two of them traveled through Nebraska and were captured in Wyoming ultimately killing eleven people.

July 1966
Charles Whitman barricaded himself in the University of Texas clock tower and began shooting at students below. The shoot off lasted 90 minutes and ultimately killed 18 people and wounded 30 others.

Dec: 1972
Mark James Robert Essex hid down the street from a police station and target police with a .44 magnum killing 10 people and wounding 13 others in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Mar. 1975
James Ruppert shot and killed his mother, brother, sister-in-law and eight nieces and nephews at an Easter Sunday dinner in Hamilton, Ohio. The 11 victims were shot a total of 35 times.

July 1976
Edward Charles opened fired with a .22 caliber rifle in the basement library of the California State University in Fullerton. He killed seven people and injured two.

March 1978
Dalal Mughrabi and her Palestinian Fedayeen unit of eleven members captured a bus and after being chased by the local military shot, killed and ultimately blew up the bus killing an estimated thirty five civilians and six Palestinian guerrillas and left seventy-one civilians wounded.

1982
Carl Brown shot and killed 8 people at a Miami machine shop where he just recently had his lawn mower worked on. He was then caught trying to escape and ran over by civilians chasing him.

April 1982
A police officer gathered weapons from the local armory and used his police status to enter homes and kill those who were there. He either shot them or killed them with grenades. The officer continued this for eight hours.

Sept 1982
George Banks went on a shooting spree and killed 13 people with an AR-15 high-powered rifle in Wilkes-Barre City and Jenkins Township.

July 1984
James Oliver Huberty dressed in camouflage and went to McDonalds in San Ysidro. At McDonalds he opened fire and killed 21 people before a sniper shot ended his life.

Aug. 1986
Pat Sherrill, a postal worker, killed 14 people and wounded six others with a .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol in Edmond, Oklahoma post office.

Aug. 1987
Michael Ryan in Hungerford, England killed 16 people and wounded 14 others then shot himself.

Julian Knight shot his way down the busy Melbourne street killing 7 and wounding 19

Dec. 1987
Frank Vitkovic killed eight people and injured 17 others when entering into a Australian post office and began to rampage. After the shootings he took a leap from the 11th floor and killed himself.

Jan. 1989
In Stockton CA, Patrick Purdy open fired on the school playground with a Chinese-made Type 56 semi-automatic rifle, killing five children and wounding twenty-nine others and a teacher. He then shot himself.

Dec. 1989
In Montreal Quebec, Marc Lepine, armed with a legally obtained semi-automatic rifle and a hunting knife, shot twenty-eight people, killing fourteen and injured fourteen before killing himself.

June 1990
James Edward Pough entered a GMC loan office in Jacksonville, FL killing ten people and wounding 5 others, then killed himself.

Nov. 1990
David Gray conducted the Aramoana massacre in Aramoana, New Zealand. Gray went on a shooting rampage and killed 13 people, before Gray himself was shot by police.

Aug. 1991
Wade Frankum killed 8 people when he open fired his Chinese assault rifle in a suburban shopping mall in Strathfield, Australia. Then he killed himself.

Oct. 1991
George Jo Hennard Drove a Ford pickup truck into the windows of Luby’s Cafe in Texas and then open fired at people throughout the cafe killing 23 and wounding 20. After running low of ammo he shot himself.

July 1993
Gian Luigi Ferri rampaged through the Pettit and Martin Law offices in San Francisco killing eight and wounding six. She then turned the gun on herself.

Dec 1993
Colin Ferguson murdered six people and injured nineteen others on the Long Island Rail Road in Garden City, New York. Ferguson open fired as people began to exit from the train as it pulled into the Merillon Avenue Station.

Feb. 1994
Baruch Kappel Goldstein in the city of Hebron, killed 29 Arabs at prayer in the Ibrahimi Mosque and wounded another 150 in a shooting attack. This attack is now known as the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre.

June 1994
Mattias Flink used a AK5 rifle in Falun, Sweden to kill bystanders in the streets. He shot a total of 47 times and hit his target every time. Unltimately he killed 7 people and wounded many others.

Sept 1995
Eric Borel killed 13 people using weapons such as a baseball bat, hammer and .22 caliber hunting rifle. This occurred in the village of Cuers.

Mar. 1996
Thomas Hamilton a pedophile, opened fire in a Dublane, Scotland School killing 17 people and wounding dozen others for being fired as a Scout Master

Mark Chahal in Vernon, British Columbia killed his wife, her sister a bride-to-be and seven of her relatives.

Martin Bryant used two semi-automatic weapons to shoot at people inside the Broken Arrow Cafe in Port Arthur, Tasmania.

A school massacre that occurred in Sanaa, Yemen, on March 30, 1997 known as the Sanaa massacre, was conducted by Mohammad Ahman al-Naziri who allegedly open fired on hundreds of people in the school killing six children and two adults with an assault rifle. His reasoning was because  one of his daughters had been raped by the school administrator.

May 1997
Genildo Ferreira de Franca conducted a 22 hour shooting spree killing 15 people with a automatic rifle and then went to a wooded area and killed himself.

June 1997
Sgt. Artur Vaganov shot and killed ten sleeping soldiers in a breakaway region of Abkhazia in the former Soviet republic of Georgia. He then turned the gun on himself.

Sept. 1997
Saber & Mahmoud Farahat Abu el-Ulla launched an attack to avenge a cartoon drawn by a Jewish woman in Israel. The two brothers attacked a bus outside the Egyptian Museum in Cairo leaving nine German tourist and their Egyptian driver dead.

Mar. 1998
In Jonesboro AR, Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden shot and killed four female students and a teacher. Nine other students and a teacher were wounded.

May 1998
Student Kipland “Kip” Kinkel killed his parents, murdered two classmates, and injured 25 others with a .22 caliber rifle, a .22 caliber handgun, and a 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol.

June 1998
Drug Rampage in Sao Paulo included three men heavily armed who opened fired in a bar in Sao Paulo. Eleven people were killed and 3 others were wounded.

April 1999
Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold were students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. They killed 13 students and a teacher with two sawed-off shotguns, explosives, a .9 mm rifle and a semiautomatic pistol. The shootings lasted 4 hours ending when the two boys shot themselves in the school library.

July 1999
Mark O. Barton killed his family and then 9 other people (wounding 12 others) at the brokerage offices in Atlanta GA. After his shootings he escaped and later shot himself.

Aug. 1999
Buford O’Neal Furrow, Jr. perpetrated a day care center at the North Valley Jewish Community Center and began shooting. The shooting injured three children, and a receptionist. He also shot and killed a US Postal Service carrier.

Sept. 1999
Larry Gene Ashbrook murdered seven people and injured seven at a Christian Rock concert in Fort Worth, Texas. Ashbrook then committed suicide.

Nov. 1999
Byran Koji Uyesugi committed the Xerox murders in Honolulu, Hawaii killing seven of his co-workers. On the day of the event, Uyesugi entered the building and opened fire with a .9mm. He killed his supervisor and six other workers.

Dec. 2000
A software engineer Michael McDermott opened fire on workers in the Edgewater Technology building in Wakefield, MA. McDermott killed seven people by shooting them in the back of the head repeatedly with either a 12 gauge shotgun or a .32 caliber pistol

June 2001
At the Narayanhity Royal Palace during a party Crown Prince Dipendra became drunk and disrupted and forced to leave the party. Within an hour he returned, armed with an assault rifle and killed his family and then himself.

March 2002
Richard Durn, in Nanterre, France, stormed a late-night meeting of councilors in Nanterre town hall, and began firing. Eight councilors died in the attack. Durn died the following day, after leaping from a police station window during questioning.

April 2002
Occurring at the Johann Gutenberg Gymnasium in Erfurt, Germany Sixteen people were shot and killed before the gun man had committed suicide. The victims comprised 13 school staff, two students and one police officer. In addition, seven people were injured

Sept. 2004
A group of armed Chechen separatists and supporters took more than 1,200 schoolchildren and adults hostage in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia-Alania, On the third day of the standoff, a chaotic gun battle broke out between the hostage-takers and Russian security forces. Three hundred and thirty-four civilians were killed, including 186 children, and hundreds more were wounded.

Jeffrey Weise, a student at Red Lake High School in Red Lake, Minnesota, killed seven people including a teacher and a security guard before committing suicide. He had also killed his grandfather and his grandfather’s girlfriend at his home before shooting at the school.

Terry Ratzmann killed seven members of congregation at the Living Church of God, at the Sheraton Hotel in Brookfield, Wisconsin. He had left the building twenty minutes earlier, and returned carrying his .9mm handgun and fired 22 rounds into the congregation killing the minister and six others including the minister’s son.

Kyle Aaron Huff entered a rave after party in the southeast part of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and opened fire, killing six and wounding two. He then turned the gun on himself as he was being confronted by police.

Oct. 2006
Charles Carl Roberts IV took hostages and eventually killed five girls and then killed himself at West Nickel Mines School, a one-room Amish schoolhouse in Nickel Mines, a village in, Pennsylvania.

Feb. 2007
At Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake City, Utah a shooter killed five bystanders and himself, while wounding at least four others. The killer was terminated by five police officers.

April 2007
Seung-Hui Cho performed two separate attacks about two hours apart on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. Cho, killed 32 people and wounded many more before committing suicide, making it the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.

July 2007
Nikola Radosavljevic took a hunting rifle and shot dead five men and four women in the Serbian village of Jabukovac, near the border with Romania and Bulgaria. Two other people were seriously injured.

Oct. 2007
Tyler Peterson of Crandon Wisconsin murdered six people, during a homecoming party inside a small apartment. A dispute between Peterson and others is thought to have preceded the shootings. Peterson was initially believed to have been killed by a police sniper, but it was later reported that he may have committed suicide by multiple gunshots

Nov. 2007
At the Jokela High School in the town of Jokela, Tuusula municipality, Finland, a gunman known as Pekka-Eric Auvinen, killed nine people: five male students and one female adult student, the school principal, the school nurse, and himself. One other person suffered gunshot wounds, and eleven people were injured by shattering glass while escaping from the school building.

Dec. 2007
Robert A. Hawkins  entered the Von-Maur store of the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska and killed nine people including himself. Five other people were injured, two of whom were in critical condition.

Feb 14, 2008
Steven P. Kazmierczak shot 22 students in a Geology class at Northern IL University, killing 5. He then shot himself.

December 24, 2008
Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, armed with 4 semi-automatic handguns and dressed in a Santa Clause suit, entered a Christmas eve party held at the home of his former in-laws.  He shot and injured an 8 year old girl upon entry, and by the time his rampage was over, 9 people had lost their lives.  He arrived carrying a gift-wrapped package containing a homemade flamethrower, which he used to set the home ablaze, seriously burning himself in the process.  He fled the scene and was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his brother’s home. Pardo’s ex-wife and inlaws were among the dead, and the apparent motive for the killings stemmed from a bitter divorce settled in early 2008.

March 10, 2009
28 year old Michael McLendon murdered 10 people, and wounded several others (including a 4 month old baby), before finally taking his own life in Alabama. During the course of the event, he shot and killed members of his own family (including his two cousins, an uncle and his grandmother), the wife and child of a local deputy sheriff, and also killed his mother, with whom he lived, by burning her house down while she was inside it.  The victims ranged in age from 18 months to 74 years old.

March 11, 2009
17 year old Tim Kretschmer, who is described as a loner with an enthusiasm for violent films, went on a shooting spree inside of his Winnenden, Germany school. He targeted and killed nine students and three teachers. He fled the scene when police arrived, shot a bystander in front of a neighboring psychiatric clinic, hijacked a car and shot four more people before turning the gun on himself. 15 people were dead by the end of the rampage.

Kirby Revelus, 23, stabbed his 17 year old sister to death with a kitchen knife, and also attacked his 9 year old sister (who was taken to the hospital and survived) and finally decapitated their 5 year old sister in front of a police officer when he broke the door to their Milton, Massachusetts home down.

Seven residents and one nurse were murdered at Pinelake Health and Rehab Center, a nursing home located in Carthage, North Carolina.  The patients who were shot to death ranged in age from 78-98.  The accused gunman, Robert Stewart, was shot and injured by police.

A Vietnamese man, 41-year-old Jiverly Wong, shot 13 people to death in the U.S. immigration services center in Binghamton, NY, and then turned the gun on himself.

April 4, 2009
35 year old James Harrison shot and killed his 5 children who ranged in age from 7 to 16 and then took his own life.  He had just found out his wife intended to leave him for another man.

Sheri Coleman and her two young sons were found strangled to death in their home in Columbia, IL.  Chris Coleman, the husband and father of the victims, stands accused of the murders.  Coleman, a former bodyguard to televangelist Joyce Meyer, had been having an affair with his wife’s old high school friend.

George Sodini, 48, walked into an LA Fitness Center and opened fire on a women’s aerobic class in Collier Township, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA.  He killed 3 women and wounded 9 others.  He then took his own life.  Sodini regularly updated a personal website on which he talked about his years of intense personal rejection by women.

Guy Heinze Jr is accused of beating 7 members of his family, along with a family friend, to death at the New Hope Plantation Mobile Home Park in Brunswick, GA. Autopsies on all 8 victims showed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma. The victims were the aleged killer’s father, Guy Heinze Sr., 45, and 6 others, ranging in age from 49-15. A 3 year-old boy survived the attack.

20-year-old “horrorcore” rapper Richard Alden Samuel McCroskey III, who went by the stage name Syko Sam, has been charged with bludgeoning four people to death in Farmville, VA. The victims are Mark Niederbrock, a Presbyterian church pastor, his wife, Longwood University professor Debra Kelley, 53; their daughter Emma Niederbrock, 16; and her friend Melanie Wells, 18. Richard McCroskey was staying in the home of the Presbyterian pastor’s estranged wife, and had flown to Virginia on Sept. 6 to take Emma to a “6 Strictly 6 For The 6 Wicked” all-day music festival in Southgate, Mich. The suspected killer met her online and they were said to be having a relationship. There are claims that McCroskey was involved in a Satanic cult. According to a truck driver, who unknowingly gave the alleged killer a ride after the murders, the youth had an odor consistent with rotting flesh. “He stunk like the devil,” the driver told the Associated Press.

Sept 19, 2009
Mesac Damas, 32, faces six counts of premeditated first-degree murder in the deaths of his wife, Guerline Damas, 32; and their five children, Michzach, 9; Marven, 6; Maven, 5; Megan, 3; and Morgan, 11 months. The six bodies were found stabbed, and with their throats slashed, in the family’s North Naples, Florida, home after some family members reported to police that they had not been heard from. After the murders, Damas fled to Haiti. After his arrest, was questioned by a Haitian reporter as to what motivated him to kill his family, and he responded, “Only God knows.” Questioned further, he blamed the crime on his mother-in-law. “Her mom pretty much made me do it- the devil, her spirit, whatever she worships,” he said. Damas added, “When I did it, my eyes were closed but right now my eyes are open.” He repeatedly asked the reporter, “Do you believe in Jesus Christ,” and stated, “The devil exists.”

Raymond “Rick” Gee, 46, and his wife Ruth, 39 and three of their children, Justina Constant, 16, Dillen Constant, 14; and Austin Gee, 11, were found dead by Rick’s stepfather, who called 911 after he heard what he thought were gunshots coming from his stepson’s property. 3-year-old Tabitha Gee survived the attack. Autopsy results showed the 5 died from blunt-force trauma. There is currently no suspect or motive, but there have been numerous reports of a suspicious truck leaving the scene.

Gunmen opened fire on a crowd celebrating the reopening of La Tombola bar, in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, killing at least seven people and injuring 20.  A 9-year-old girl, as well as a woman who was 8 months into her pregnancy, were among the seriously wounded.  The injured woman lost her baby.  The justice department plans to file a murder charge for the death of the fetus.

Psychiatrist, and US Army Major, Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire at the Soldier Readiness Center in the Fort Hood Military Base, located in Texas.  13 people were killed and another 42 were wounded in the attack.  Hasan himself was severely wounded, but survived. The attacker is a Muslim, and US government officials were aware of between 10-20 emails sent between Hasan and a radical Muslim cleric in Yemen, beginning December of 2008.

Robert Beiser, 39, entered the workplace of his estranged wife, Teresa Beiser,36, armed with two loaded weapons, shot and killed her before shooting himself.  He also wounded two other employees during the attack.  He had been threatening her with violence since he discovered she had filed for divorce.

35-year-old Paul Michael Merhige shot four members of his family to death following Thanksgiving dinner.  His cousin, six-year-old Makayla Sitton, his twin sisters Carla and Lisa Merhige, and his aunt Raymonde Joseph were killed when he returned to the home of Jim and Muriel Sitton, who are devoted followers of Jesus Christ and the parents of Makayla.  They have been comforted by the knowledge that their little girl is with the Lord in heaven and free from any pain or fear, saying “I believe this death, too, is for a purpose. I don’t understand it yet, but I know who God is and I trust that all things work for the good of those who are called according to His purpose.”

MASSACRE OF COPTIC CHRISTIANS LEAVES 9 DEAD IN EGYPT – As Coptic Christians were leaving the cathedral in Nag Hammadi, Egypt, after celebrating midnight mass, 8 Copts and 1 Muslim bystander were killed by Muslim gunmen. An additional 9 Copts and 2 Muslims were wounded.January 19, 2010 – SHOOTING SPREE IN VIRGINIA KILLS 8 ­ –When police responded to a call for medical attention on a road outside Appomattox, they were fired on by the suspect, who killed 8 men and women he knew following the ensuing chase.

SHOOTING KILLS 3 and WOUNDS 3 on ALABAMA CAMPUS – A biology professor killed 3 people and wounded 3 more in a classroom at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama

SUICIDE BOMBINGS IN MOSCOW KILL 40 – Two women carried out suicide bombings during the morning rush hour in two stations of the Moscow Metro. Forty were killed and more than 100 were injured.

June 2010
KILLING SPREE LEAVES 13 DEAD and 11 WOUNDED – A lone gunman, a 52-year-old taxi drive, killed 12 and injured 11 others before killing himself in Cumbria, England, during a series of attacks that began mid-morning and that was confirmed as the worst incident of mass shooting in Britain since the Dunblane massacre of 1996.

GUNMAN KILLS 8, HIMSELF, IN CONNECTICUT – A former employee of Hartford Distributors, a beer distribution company, shot and killed 8 people in a company-owned warehouse before killing himself.

ALEXANDRIA BOMBING KILLS 23 – An attack onCoptic Christians in Alexandria, Egypt, resulted in the deaths of 23 people, and 97 were injured.

January 8, 2011
GUNMAN SHOOTS 19, KILLS 6, in TUSCON, ARIZONA– During an open meeting held in a Safeway supermarket parking lot by U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, a gunman opened fire, killing 6, including Arizona Chief Judge John Roll, and critically injuring Giffords, who was shot through the head at point-blank range.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SHOOTING IN BRAZIL LEAVES 12 CHILDREN DEAD – An armed man entered an elementary school in Realengo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and killed 12 children between the ages of 10 and 13, with 20 others seriously wounded.

GUNMAN KILLS 6 AT MALL IN NETHERLANDS – A 24-year-old man armed with a rifle shot 6 people, wounded 17 others, and then killed himself in the deadliest incident in the Netherlands since the 2009 attack on the Dutch royal family.

GUNMAN KILLS 7 in GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – A gunman killed 7, including his estranged wife, their daughter, and his former girlfriend, and wounded two others in shootings that occurred in two homes. He killed himself in a third home following a police chase.

GUNMAN KILLS 7 IN OHIO – A gunman in Copley Township, Summit County, Ohio, conducted a shooting spree that left 7 dead before he was shot and killed by police.

MASS SHOOTING LEAVES 8 DEAD IN CALIFORNIA– In the deadliest mass killing in Orange County history, eight people inside a hair salon and one person in the parking lot were shot, with only one victim surviving.

February 27, 2012
A 17-year-old student, T.J. Lane, confessed to going into his Chardon, Ohio high school cafeteria and shooting students at random. Three students died and two were hospitalized. Lane said he stole the gun from a relative who had obtained it legally.

March 30, 2012
A gunman drove by and opened fire on a crowd of mourners outside a funeral home in Miami, Fla. Two people died and 12 more were injured, the Miami Herald reported. The mourners were gathered for the funeral of 21-year-old Marvin Andre, who also died in a separate shooting. The gunman fled and has not yet been apprehended (Aug. 31, 2012).

April 2, 2012
One L. Goh opened fire at Oikos University in Oakland, California. He killed 7 people and injured at least 3 more. Goh was a former student at the school and was said to be angry that he was expelled for poor behavior.

May 29, 2012
Ian Stawicki  went into a cafe in Seattle’s University district, shooting and killing 4 people, ABC reported at the time. He then fled to a parking lot and shot another woman before killing himself. He wasn’t thought to have known his victims but the Stawicki’s father later revealed that  his son was a disgruntled type of person and rarely happy.

July 20, 2012
A horrific mass shooting occurred at a Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of the film The Dark Knight Rises. A gunman believed to  be acting on his own dressed in tactical clothing including a gas mask, set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others, the highest number of casualties in an American mass shooting. The suspect is James Eagan Holmes, who was  arrested outside the cinema minutes after the shooting rampage.

August 5, 2012
Seven people died and dozens injured after gunfire broke out at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. The gunman, identified by police as Wade Michael Page, a  40-year-old Army veteran who gunned down six inside a Milwaukee-area Sikh temple shot the responding officer eight to nine times before he was killed by police, authorities said Monday.

Jeffrey Johnson shot his former boss, Steven Ercolino. The shooting by Johnson is believed to be a revenge attack for being fired from his job. He shot or injured 11 more people before being shot and killed by police. The shooting occurred near New York’s Empire State Building during rush hour.

Three are people at the Clackamas Town Center mall in Clackamas, Oregon. The County Sheriff’s Office identified Jacob Tyler Roberts, 22, as the gunman who entered the mall with a AR-15 semiautomatic assault rifle, killing two and wounding another before taking his own life.

A shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, leaves at least 26 dead. The suspected shooter, Adam Lanza, was armed with four weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest. Lanz first shot and killed his mother at home.

Washington, D.C. – 13 dead (including gunman) Defense contract employee and former Navy reservist Aaron Alexis, 34, allegedly opened fire shortly after 8 a.m. inside building 197 in the Washington Navy Yard, killing 12 people and wounding more than a dozen others. Alexis was slain in a gun battle with police.

Hialeah, Fla. – 7 dead (including gunman) Police say Pedro Vargas, 42, went on a shooting spree in his South Florida apartment complex, killing the building’s two managers, a family of three, and a man returning from his son’s boxing practice. Before the attack, Vargas called the police asking the dispatcher to run the license plate of a vehicle parked outside the building, after reporting he had been followed and threatened by people doing witchcraft. Vargas was killed by a SWAT team after an eight-hour stand-off with police, during which he took two people hostage. The hostages were rescued when the SWAT team stormed the apartment.

May 23, 2014
A killing Spree was perpetrated in Isla Vista, California  near the campus of   University of California, Santa Barbara by 22-year-old Elliot Rodger. Rodger killed six people and injured thirteen others before committing suicide.

October 2015
At least 8 students and a teacher at Umpqua Community College in Oregon were murdered by another deranged  26-year old male who asked the victims if they were Christians before he shot and killed them; a number of others were injured.

November 13,  2015
A series of coordinated terrorist attacks occurred in Paris. The attackers killed 130 people, and another 368 people were injured. The attacks were the deadliest on France since World War II.

March 22, 2016
Three coordinated nail bombings occurred in Belgium: two at Brussels Airport in Zaventem, and one at Maalbeek metro station in Brussels. In these attacks, 32 victims and three perpetrators were killed, and over 300 people were injured.

Authorities say gunman Stephen Paddock fired on an outdoor music festival on the Las Vegas Strip from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino — 58 people were killed and more than 500 were wounded.

Church massacre in Texas
A gunmen opened fire during a church service in Sutherland Spiring Texas – killing 26 and injuring many more.

2018
On February 14, 2018, a gunman Nikolas Cruz opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people and injuring 17 others.

2019
A shooting at Walmart in El Paso, Texas, on August 3, with 22 people killed and 24 wounded. It was the deadliest shooting of the year, and the seventh-deadliest in modern U.S. history.

A shooting in a municipal building in Virginia Beach, on May 31, where a former city employee killed 12 people and wounded four.
