Preparing for war in the north, Israel boosts air defenses
Israel has boosted its air defense in the northern part of the country following a significant confrontation between the Jewish State, Syria and Iran which led to the loss of an F-16 fighter jet. While the Israeli army refused to comment on the reports, witnesses reported seeing a convoy of missile defense batteries heading north near the Israeli-Arab city of Baqa el-Garbiyeh.

Egypt army says it killed 16 jihadists in Sinai
Egypt says it has killed 16 Islamist militants in an operation in Sinai in the north-east of the country. Dozens of targets including weapons dumps, motorbikes and cars were also destroyed, a statement from the military says. Four militants and 30 suspects were arrested, it adds. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has ordered the military to defeat Islamists in the region by the end of this month.

Israel warns Iran after launching major raids in Syria
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu says his country will defend itself “against any attack” after carrying out what appear to be its largest strikes on sites in Syria in decades. Israel launched raids against Iranian targets after saying it had intercepted an Iranian drone crossing the Syria-Israel border. Iran denies the allegation.

Israel’s military on Sunday confirmed that its downed F-16 fighter jet had been hit by a Syrian antiaircraft missile — the first plane it has lost to enemy fire in more than 35 years. The Israel Defense Forces had been investigating whether the plane that crashed in Israel on Saturday after carrying out a bombing raid inside Syria had suffered a direct hit, had been struck by shrapnel or had crashed after its pilots ejected under fire.
