Adios, California: Democrat Governor Signs Sanctuary State Bill
Gov. Jerry Brown, the top liberal in a state lousy with them, just signed California’s death warrant. The governor signed “sanctuary state” legislation on Thursday, which will sharply limit how and when local law enforcement officials can cooperate with federal immigration agencies. The bill, known as SB 54, will become official state law in January. Democrats are hailing it as a major step in the oh-so-honorable war on the Trump administration – a chance for California to stand up and protect its 2 million illegal immigrants from deportation. Great news for them, great news for the businesses that depend on them for cheap labor, but not-so-great news for California citizens who value the rule of law. Or the economy. Or, in many cases, their lives.

Tehran threatens US bases as Trump reshapes Iran strategy
Iran warned the United States against designating its Revolutionary Guards Corp as a terrorist group and said U.S. regional military bases would be at risk if further sanctions were passed. The warning came after the White House said on Friday that President Donald Trump would announce new US responses to Iran’s missile tests, support for “terrorism” and cyber operations as part of his new Iran strategy.

US President Donald Trump said in an interview broadcast on Saturday that he wanted to give a shot at achieving peace between Israel and the Palestinians before moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. In June, Trump signed a temporary order to keep the US embassy in Tel Aviv, despite a campaign promise he made to move it to Jerusalem.

Madagascar plague: WHO in huge release of antibiotics
More than a million doses of antibiotics have been delivered by the World Health Organization to fight an outbreak of plague in Madagascar which has killed at least 33 people. The authorities have also banned prison visits in the two worst affected areas to prevent the spread of the disease. The risk of contamination is high in overcrowded and unsanitary jails.

Ghana’s capital rocked by huge gas blasts
Huge explosions have rocked a fuel depot in Ghana’s capital Accra, leaving at least six people dead. The blasts sent a giant fireball into the sky and forced residents to flee the Atomic Junction area, in the north-east of the city, officials say. The incident happened at about 19:30 GMT on Saturday, reportedly as a tanker delivering natural gas caught fire.

Catalan independence declaration ‘will have no effect’, says Rajoy
Any declaration of independence by Catalonia will have no effect, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has warned, adding that he is not ruling out suspending the region’s autonomy. In an interview with El País newspaper, Mr Rajoy also rejected any mediation to resolve the crisis. On Saturday thousands of people rallied in Madrid for Spanish unity.

Brazilians in the south asked to vote on secession
Voters in the south of Brazil have been asked in an informal vote whether they want to be part of a new country. The referendum was organised a week after a similar vote in Catalonia by a secessionist movement called “The South Is My Country”. The movement said it set up polls in more than 1,000 municipalities across the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná.

California became the first “sanctuary state” for undocumented immigrants Friday, a decision criticized by the Trump administration which believes the move will compromise security. California’s governor, Democrat Jerry Brown, signed the landmark legislation — Senate Bill 54 (SB54) — which grants better protections to people who are in the US without permission, including those who have committed crimes.

Attack on Saudi palace in Jiddah kills 2 royal guards

An official Saudi news agency says an attack on the Al-Salam Palace in Jiddah has killed two members of the Saudi Royal Guard. The Saudi Press Agency quoted the security spokesman for the Interior Ministry as saying that at around 3:325 a.m. on Saturday the perpetrator disembarked from a vehicle and opened fire on the western gate of the palace, killing two Guard members and wounding three others. The gunman was shot dead on the spot,
