Never before in history have so many people been angry with so many people; billions are now traveling down the social media superhighway. The free fall decline of human honor and dignity is clogging every intersection leading to a complete lack of empathy for those with opposing views.
The total loss of human dignity will be the catalyst that ignites an unprecedented outbreak of worldwide violence and chaos lacking discrimination and knowing no boundaries. Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ described what conditions on earth would be like just prior to His return:
“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” (Matthew 24:7a).
“Nation” means “ethnicity” or “race” and kingdom means kingdom. Racial tension and rumors of war fill today’s headlines. Jesus said that these signs are the beginning of birth pains. His judgment is about to be delivered to a world that rejects Him.
No matter how disingenuous actual human dignity was in generations past, at least some performance of decency was expected in public society in the form of respect for authority and politeness toward strangers and the opposite gender. Yet even then, the depths of human cruelty and depravity were on full display during World Wars I and II, the Balkan wars, and many other conflicts and wars.
Millions of people are now witnessing firsthand the human depravity that has remained veiled throughout previous generations via traditional societal decorum and walls of isolation. This experience is rapidly causing the masses to determine that no one is above being attacked and dishonored.
One can only imagine the resulting depths of human cruelty when all laws of human decency are finally broken. If and when the next World War breaks out… only God can help us.
“And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened” (Matthew 24:12, 22).
As anyone who reads the Bible knows, human depravity has always existed just below the surface of etiquette:
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).
However, today’s reality is that through the avenue of social media the barrier that has separated what lies beneath the surface is being ripping away by the ability to send and receive kneejerk reactions to almost any human event or behavior.
Casting a shadow over all of this is the world’s denial of Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6).
The world says many paths lead to heaven. The world rejects their Savior and it is only a matter of time before He returns in judgment: “Because He has appointed a Day in which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has provided assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:31).
Eventually, total apostasy will lead to the unleashing the unholiest of beasts, the Antichrist.
Those who put their complete trust and faith in Jesus Christ will not have to experience the time of terrible judgment about to descend over the entire earth:
“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown” (Revelation 3:10-11).
Those who truly accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior must remain vigilant in prayer for our fellow believers that we all will continue in the strength of the Lord and endeavor to reach the lost sheep for Christ.
“Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!” (James 5:9)
